Jane Nicholas is an authority in Stumpwork, she is the author of 8 books on Stumpwork stitchery including The Complete Book of Stumpwork.
This is a Milner Craft Series book, one of Sally Milner Publishing's excdellent stitchery books from Australia.
In the introduction to this handsome book Jane Nicholas says her inspiration for this book was her fascination with medieval illuminated books such as The Book Of Hours. She was driven to embroider them and used the techniques of stumpwork to enh...
This book is published in France and in the French language but that does not really effect the designs and information. There is almost no text, in any langauge other then the preface and the 2 page Conseils Techniques which means Examples Of Use.
There are many nature and plant based needlepoint design books, flowers, flora, trees & shrubs, landscape etc. but I know of no other book dedicated to vegetables.
This is an extraordinary book, each desgn has 6 pages. The first page is a stitched e...
I have recently become aware of these gorgeous book about stitching flowers & gardens by Diana Lampe. I was aware of her name and the type of books she wrote but had no idea how wonderful they were until I saw one. WOW!.
I do love pansies and this amazing book has 93 different pansies to stitch (not kidding) & 4 of the variety Heartsease. The book begins with the basics, 4 pages of full color pansies to choose from. Materials & equipment, working notes on pansies, how to stitch a pansy, finis...
Needlepoint for churches and synagogues must be a popular book subject. There are a number of books about this in print. This book is subtitled " A step-by-step guide to canvaswork kneelers". Quoting the back cover " Easy to follow step-by-step sequences illustrate how to design, embroider and make up a simple church kneeler, with practical and inspirational ideas for your own projects." The books contents include: frames & framing ideas & design canvaswork stitching transferring a design work...
In looking through this wonderful little book, I see that most of these stitches can be, easily, used for needlepoint or cross-stitch. Or indeed for embroidery.
There are 95 stitches in the book
Quoting from the back cover: "This comprehensive illustrated directory of stitches gives the needleworker a wide range of options for traditional or modern embroidery. Each stitch is represented by a colour photograph, clear diagrams and working instructions."
The book includes 10 original desi...
Judith Montano is a very well known name in the stitch world. She subtitles her book "Transforming Traditional Stitches Into Fiber Art".
Every stitch, suggestion & idea in this book is applicable and adaptable to needlepoint. I was very interested in this book when I ordered it. I love the idea of doing "more" with needlepoint although I don't exactly know what this "more" might be.
To quote the back cover "Create lifelike trees, flowers, ocean corals and more with 60 stitches and 67 stitch co...
Trish Burr is a well-known needlepoint teacher and author of the Long & Short Stitch book & DVD as well as numerous other needlework books including one of my favorites, Redoute's Finest Flowers. Needle Painting for Embroidery is subtitled " Fresh Ideas For Beginners" This book does begin with easier lessons, I find it goes way beyong beginners, the instructions are given in levels going from level one to level 3 which is more challenging. it is a very good Needlepainting book Essentially...
Last time I was able to list this book (which was several years ago) it was 4000 Flower & Plant Motifs. It sold almost immediately and I was not able to find any more copies.
Now, of course, I have easy too many copies. So, in time for the holidays I am seriously lowering the price of this fine design motifs book that includes a CD.
This useful book was revised and published by Batsford, in the UK in 2011 and is now available again.
This time it has 5000 (yes, not a typo..5 thousand) Flower...
I have seen many fine Needework Accessories done by some wonderful stitchers. I was glad to find this interesting book. Making Needlework Accessories has the subtitle: Embroidered With Beads. While this does appear to be an embroidery book and a number of these projects are done on felt or fabric, I do not see any designs that would not easily adapt to Needlepoint. Making Needlework Accessories has 14 projects followed by very complete instruction & templates. Under Techniques is a list of St...
The first thing to remember is that books published in the UK have many & different names for needlepoint. They include Canvas Embroidery, Canvas Work or just Embroidery. The subtitle for this book is: Over 80 Original Needlepoint Designs of Flowers, Fruit and Animals. This is a handsome book but it is not for beginner's. Each design is graphed out so it is suitable for Needlepoint or counted thread work. The color use is spectacular. The book has many fine pictures of English Gardens and pic...
The first thing I want to say about this book is to remind you that back then, Needlepoint was called Embroidery or Canvas Embroidery. What we call Embroidery now was called something else then, one of the names was *fine stitching* or Tambour Work. This is a very nice, coffee table size hard cover book. The patterns are lovely, what you might imagine 19th century work to be. Wonderful traditional design, many of them quite detailed & complex. The book is based on the Nowotny Collection, a re...
Pat Trott is also the author of another stitchery book, Montmellick Embroidery, (which I just so happen to have listed here in my Other New Needlework Books category). Her books are handsomely done and the techniques are clearly presented. Most of these designs are shown stitched on Aida or slightly open linen embroidery fabric. All of them are easily adaptable to needlepoint. (actually, not real adaptation needed). Quoting (and paraphrasing) from the back cover "A step-by-step guide to creati...
