NewNeedlepoint.com just had it’s 3rd birthday. I am sometimes amazed that we made it this far. I keep making changes and tweaking my web store. I want it to be the best it can be.

NewNeedlepoint.com has 2 sections. There is my extensive collection of New Needlework books. I have expanded the books categories to cover other types of stitching in addition to Needlepoint.

There are knitting & crochet books, embroidery & cross-stitch books, color use & theory books and the catch-all misc. books category.

My Rare/Used Book titles are dictated by the books my customers want and the books that I can get, in reasonable condition. It is getting difficult to find decent, salable old books. Some of the Rare Books are getting quite hard to find.

I have also expanded the Rare/Used books categories to cover other types of Needlework.

I specialize in Bargello Needlepoint books although there aren’t that many of them out there, used or new.

The other side of NewNeedlepoint.com is the Canvases & Kits I sell. I stock mostly hand painted needlepoint designs by some of today’s great Needlepoint Designers. I have a special category for the gorgeous & colorful work of Laurel Burch.

I also have a good collection of Patt & Lee’s superior Glicee’ needlepoint designs including a whole section of Patt’s Scrap Threads collection. The perfect way to use all that extra stash we all have.

I assemble the kits myself, from the threads I love to stitch with. I use Anchor & DMC Perle Cotton Floss in sizes 3, 5 & 8. Also Kreinik Metallic Braid Thread in sizes 12 & 16.

I have a small Needlework Tool collection, all of it things I use and know work well.

I want to thank all my customers for 3 great years, so far. This coming year should be as interesting as the last 3 have been.

The Craft of Florentine Embroidery by Barbara Snook

I have 2 books by Barbara Snook with very similar names. This book is The Craft of Florentine Embroidery which was published in 1971 and the other is Florentine Embroidery published in 1967. They are different books.

The one I am listing here is 1971's The Craft of Florentine Embroidery. The author, in her introduction says the term "Florentine is used to cover varieties of Florentine Stitch and Hungarian Point." it is also called Flame Stitch or Lightning Patterns etc.

All these various terms are grouped under the title of Bargello now.

This book starts at the beginning, choosing the right canvas and threads for Bargello (Florentine Embroidery will be Bargello for the purposes of the review).

She demonstrates the few basic stitches and clearly graphs out some of the most common Bargello patterns used. There are 39 pages of Bargello Stitch patterns with between 1 and 4 patterns per page.

Then she discusses "The Present Use of Florentine Embroidery" which I find an odd name for this 3 page chapter.

The Craft of Florentine Embroidery has 22 designs, with directions and graphs ranging from the easiest to the hardest.

This book was published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1971.It is a glossy paperbound book with 95 pages. I do not recommend buying both these books. Either or.

This book is in good condition, almost Very good but it is hard to call paperbound books Very Good, they take such a beating. Still, this copy is much better then the last 2 I had for sale here.

The cover is a little beat up at the edges, The top and the bottom of the cover over the spine are noty so good. I taped them to prevent further damage.
The book inside is in much better condition than the cover, this is Very Good for sure. The pages are clean with just a little yellowing (from age) at the edges. The spine is tight.

I do want to mention that the pictures inside are all B & W, shades of gray etc but no color pictures.

DMC Travel Roll

The official name of this is Needlework On-The-Go Travel Roll. This clever storage roll is a great help when carting your needlepoint projects in progress around with you. This is a great gift for any stitcher you know, we all hate untangling threads. I keep each needlepoint canvas I am working on in a separate Claire Sanchez tote bag (notice how neatly I inserted a plug for the bags?). Inside the bag the floss or the yarn becomes tangled, no matter how carefully I sort, smooth & knot ... More Info

4 Way Bargello: Revised Edition by Dorothy Kaestner

Dorothy Kaestner's wonderful book, 4 Way Bargello. I have a copy of this book myself and have sold so many here I now buy them in multiples, not 1 at a time. Although they are getting harder to find, or to find in a reasonable condition. I recently ordered 2 and both arrived full of foxing. Not good. Needless to say, I got a refund. This is, of course, a rare book. It is getting harder to find more each time I sell one. This copy of 4 Way Bargello is signed by Dorothy ... More Info

Geometric Designs in Needlepoint by Mary Jaene Edmonds

An unusual book and one I had not heard of before I began searching for these books. It focuses on geometric needlepoint designs, mostly with just one or two colors, occasionally three colors. The designs use stitch and texture to create their effect and they sure do. I sell this book almost as soon as I list it, each time. Then I have to find another. It is a popular book. It is becoming harder to get each time I re-order. There are 20 designs in this book, not only are all the ... More Info

Elsa Williams Bargello: Florentine Canvas Work

Elsa Williams is one of the better known needlework designers. Her designs and products include needlepoint, embroidery, crewel work, cross stitch and more. The needlework products bearing her name are too numerous to mention. The iconic needlepoint book gets harder to find each time I search for it to re-order. This is Elsa William's Bargello book. It is one of the most important of the early books on Bargello needlepoint. it is another fine Van Nostrand Reinhold book, published in ... More Info
