NewNeedlepoint.com just had it’s 3rd birthday. I am sometimes amazed that we made it this far. I keep making changes and tweaking my web store. I want it to be the best it can be.

NewNeedlepoint.com has 2 sections. There is my extensive collection of New Needlework books. I have expanded the books categories to cover other types of stitching in addition to Needlepoint.

There are knitting & crochet books, embroidery & cross-stitch books, color use & theory books and the catch-all misc. books category.

My Rare/Used Book titles are dictated by the books my customers want and the books that I can get, in reasonable condition. It is getting difficult to find decent, salable old books. Some of the Rare Books are getting quite hard to find.

I have also expanded the Rare/Used books categories to cover other types of Needlework.

I specialize in Bargello Needlepoint books although there aren’t that many of them out there, used or new.

The other side of NewNeedlepoint.com is the Canvases & Kits I sell. I stock mostly hand painted needlepoint designs by some of today’s great Needlepoint Designers. I have a special category for the gorgeous & colorful work of Laurel Burch.

I also have a good collection of Patt & Lee’s superior Glicee’ needlepoint designs including a whole section of Patt’s Scrap Threads collection. The perfect way to use all that extra stash we all have.

I assemble the kits myself, from the threads I love to stitch with. I use Anchor & DMC Perle Cotton Floss in sizes 3, 5 & 8. Also Kreinik Metallic Braid Thread in sizes 12 & 16.

I have a small Needlework Tool collection, all of it things I use and know work well.

I want to thank all my customers for 3 great years, so far. This coming year should be as interesting as the last 3 have been.

I know I have often mentioned Margaret Boyles many excellent book on Bargello Needlepoint. As far as I know, this is Ms. Boyles only book on regular needlepoint. This is an interesting and very forward thinking book. When it was published, in 1974, few if any other needlepoint books mentioned Decorative Stitching.

Needlepoint Stitchery discusses it, in depth, as well as putting 2 versions of the same design on it's cover. One is stitched in *plain stitch* and one is done in a variety of Decorative Stitches.

I suspect Ms. Boyles was always an innovator. There are some unique subjects here.
"Basic Tent Stitch is demonstrated in relation to the 4 techniques for creating it" with an explaination of why and where each technique should be used. What she goes on to descibe is the difference between the accepted version of the *basic Stitch*. The ahlf cross stitch, the Continental or Tent Stitch, Basketweave Stitch and Diagonal Stitch. I had not seen diagonal stitch before.

All her decorative Stitches, here called *Fancy Stitches* (I love that name) are shown in full color pictures and 3 color graphs, blue on the black & white. This type of graph makes it much easier to duplicate a stitch.

There is a Design Portfolio with 9 designs shown and graphed for stitching. A small Chapter on Bargello Needlepoint and a glossery of embroidery stitches that can be adapted to needlepoint. There are also a number of Bargello Needlepoint instructions as well as 4-way Bargello.

This is a valuable book by a Master Teacher. Needlepoint Stitchery is a book that sells quickly every time I list it here and is getting much harder to get, much.

Needlepoint Stitchery was published by Macmillan Publishing in New York and Collier MacMillan in London. There is not a publication date noted but this book is a "First Printing".

This hardcover book is in very good condition. The dust jacket is very good if not better and the inside pages are very good. Someone has written a date and some numbers on the inside cover page, other then that the book is unmarked.

First Printing: The New Needlepoint: Stitches and Designs by Margaret Boyles

Although the subtitle of this book is Stitches and Designs it is much more of a needlepoint reference and stitches book than it is a design book. There are some interesting stitches in this book. The Star Stitch, the Double Star Stitch, the Wheat Sheaf & Shell Stitch, the Double Leviathan and the Triple Levithan stitchs and more. Those were on just 2 pages of the over 100 pages of stitches, some common and some very much not common. There is a section on Bargello Needlepoint (of course) ... More Info

Needlepoint for Everyone by Mary Brooks Picken & Doris White

The word "Comprehensive" is used often to descibe books that are not really comprehensive but this book is and then some. I would recommend this book to beginners who are serious about learning needlepoint. As well as practical needlepoint instruction and encyclopedic information the authors highlight examples of Needlepoint from places as diverse as Gracie mansion, home of New York's Mayor, Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts, Boscobel on the Hudson, Mount Vernon, Williamsburg, Virginia ... Mira Silverstein's Bargello Plus

This is not a basic book on Bargello. It is not for beginners. Bargello Plus has unusual ideas and very interesting original designs featuring Bargello stitchery. The Bargello pattern stitches are combined with other "regular" needlepoint stitches to create the overall designs. The graphs and the instructions are very clear and complete. There is a section of Bargello Patterns and a section on free-form Bargello. There are 2 sections of good full color pictures. The designs and the ... More Info
