NewNeedlepoint.com has been open almost 2 years now. There have been many changes as I find my “spot” in the on-line needlepoint community.

NewNeedlepoint.com specializes in books, both new and used books. The needlepoint and Bargello Needlepoint book categories are extensive. Many of the books here are rare, some are quite rare and all have reviews I have written.

There are pictures of all the books. I find a picture of the cover sometimes tells you more about a book then any review can.

All the used/rare books have pictures of the book cover or dust jacket plus a picture of the inside pages so you can see the condition of the books for yourself.

I know it is a given in the used book market that you keep the dust jacket, no matter the condition but I find many good or very good condition books inside terrible and dirty dust jackets. In that case I remove them, no matter what the market “says”.

NewNeedlepoint.com is currently expanding it’s collection of other Needlework books. Included are Cross-Stitch, Glorafilia, Ribbon Stitching, Embroidery, Punchneedle, Bead Stitching, Whitework, Blackwork, Beginner Needlepoint and more.

I will continue to sell selected needlepoint canvases & kits including the work of Patt & Lee Designs, Laurel Burch and more. The Patt & Lee collection of Scrap Thread canvases are a wonderful way to use your extra yarn and thread stash.

The items in the small tools category is also carefully chosen. I only sell tools I have used myself.

NewNeedlepoint.com continues to change while I work to make it as good as it can be. I hope you like what you see.

This is a large, coffee table size book. This is a quote from the cover of the book, something of a sub-title "102 designs derived from art of the past from Ancient Egypt and Classical Greece to the Renaissance, the American Folk Tradition and Art Nouveau"

As you can see, the picture used for the dust jacket is very much American Folk Art. I thought that this book was about American Historical Art used for Needlepoint. I was very surprised when I actually received the book.

The dust jacket is in pretty bad condition. This has become something of a joke for me, each one of these books I get to sell (this is the 4th) has this just awful, tattered and ripped up dust jacket with a good to very good book inside. This one is no exception. I have scotch taped the dickens out of the dust jacket to try and stop further damage.

There is one section of color pictures and many of the B & W graphs have highlights in red.

The chapters all begin with:
DESIGNS FROM THE ART OF THE
MINOANS
ANCIENT EGYPT
ANCIENT NEAR EAST
GREECE AND ROME
BYZANTINE EMPIRE
THE MIDDLE AGES
ISLAM
THE RENAISSANCE
17TH-19TH CENTURY EUROPE
AMERICAN FOLK ART

Each chapter has several designs and graphs as well as history and background for the place and era.

A Needlepoint Gallery of Patterns from the Past is a hardcover book, it was published in 1975 by Alfred A. Knopf. It really does seem to be a well researched and interesting book. All of the designs (as far as I can tell) are shown as completed needlepoint canvases, in B & W and in full color in that section.

New Adventures in Needlepoint Design by Natalie Hays Hammond

When I bought this, sight unseen, I thought I was getting just another needlepoint design book, I could not have been more wrong. This unique book is all about stitching what Ms Hammond calls "Key Symbols". The symbols, close to 100 of them, are taken from cultures and languages all over the world. They are contemporary in felling no matter how old the culture they come from. Ms Hammond has shown them all done is classic Continental Stitch needlepoint. This most clearly shows the ... More Info

Bargello Stitchery by Jo Ippolito Christensen & Sonie Shapiro Ashner

The subtitle of this books is "Verticle Needlepoint". Of course, Jo Ippolito Christensen is a very famous name in stitchery, her books are on almost every stitcher's shelves, mine included. This is pretty much a Beginner's Bargello Book. I explains how to do these really very simple stitches and how to follow the patterns (much harder). The patterns used and the projects in this small book as simple, as befits a beginner's book but presented in an easy to understand and follow ... More Info
