This Beth Russell book has been a a rare and hard-to-find book up until now. It is now been re-printed, the same book but brand new.
This is her classic book, Traditional Needlepoint: The original hard scover book was published by David & Charles in 1992. The is the glossy cover paperbound edition, first printed in 1999..
Beth Russell's books are always lovely, very well done with all color pictures and graphs.
There is a extensive introduction with a very beautifully staged picture of Ms. Russell working. Then the book discusses the Arts & Crafts Movement.
There are 16 projects, all with pictures, complete and detailed graphs, color use guides with the colors numbers for DMC Floss, Appleton Wool, Paternayan Wool, as used in the project.
The projects are:
Hare & Fox
Owls & Rabbits
Frog & Stork
Bird & Leaf
They are wonderful traditional (as the title says) English Needlepoint Patterns. Complete & comprehensive directions and full color charts. Just what you would expect from a Beth Russell book.
The book then has a chapter on Basic Techniques, Where To Buy Kits and Materials, Places to Visit and a Bibliography.
The Places to Visit list is very interesting. One list is places in the USA and the much longer list is places in the UK.
