Celtic Needlepoint patterns for needlepoint is a new area of needlepoint design to me. It is a wonderful surprise. The patterns use wonderful bright colors and imaginative and unusual designs.
This is a handsome and unusual book. There are 18 designs, they are grouped by the type of design or motif.
Bird and Tree Patterns
Alice Starmore, herself descended from the Celts, has used the Book of Kells as well as the art and history of Celtic culture.
The book has a further conversion chart in the back of the book as well as a section on needlepoint technique
Each design has a full color picture of the designed stitched and finished as well as a full color chart. There are thread and color lists using Appleton or Paternayan Wools.
Any design which specifies Appleton Wool includes a list to substitute Paternayan Wools. Niow, of course, even Paternayan Yarn does not exist but substituting other threads should be no problem.
Each chapter begins with a 2 page full color landscape picture. The Introduction is a brief summery of Celtic art.
The book is hard cover and in fine condition, which is better then very good. It would be gift quality except the back of the dust jacket shows a little wear.
The pages are perfect and the binding is tight. I do not think this book has been opened much.
