Beth Russell's Victorian Needlepoint (1)

Sub-Total: $18.00
NewNeedlepoint.com is a labor of love. I began my web store with the idea that I would build the kind of Needlepoint Web Store where I would like to shop.

I love color and I admire good design. My goal is to sell the best Needlepoint Designs, Books and Accessories I can.

I have a extensive selection of wonderful Hand Painted Needlepoint Canvases & Kits by some of today’s fine Needlepoint Designers including Danji Design, Laurel Burch, Eileen Best and many more.

NewNeedlepoint.com has a large collection of Needlepoint & Bargello Needlepoint Books. Most of the books are Hard-To-Find used books, some are quite Rare. Some of the books are maybe not so rare but are classic Needlepoint or Bargello Needlepoint Design or Reference Books.

I have picked out the best condition Books I could find, which is not as easy as you might think.

NewNeedlepoint has two new categories: NEW Needlepoint Books & NEW Bargello Books. These are direct from the publisher or distributor current Needlepoint or Bargello Needlepoint titles by some of today's well-known authors.

There are more to come.

NewNeedlepoint.com specializes in Beginner & Novice Needlepoint Kits and Books. The beginner level Needlepoint Kits are scattered everywhere in my listings as well as having their own category.

The Beginner Books do not…yet…have their own category.

NewNeedlepoint.com has an extensive selection of the excellent Patt & Lee Glicee’ Needlepoint Designs. They are all available as canvas alone plus most are also for sale assembled as a kit.

There is also my small Needlepoint Tools Category. I don’t sell anything I am not familiar with, no Drop Ship here. This is where you will find Mighty Bright lamps, Laying tools, quality Gingher Scissors, DMC or Kreinik Color Cards and more.

NewNeedlepoint.com continues to change as I work to make it as good as it can be. I hope you like what you see.

The sub-title of this book is " From The Tapestries at Charleston Farmhouse with Charts of Designs by Duncan Grant, Vanessa Bell & Roger Fry".

This is a quote from the dust jacket. "During the 1st World War the Bloomsbury Group, a circle of influential British Writers, Artists and Designers, went to stay at Charleston Farmhouse in Sussex. There they put their aesthetic into practice by painting on walls and furniture, designing fabrics and and producing an abundance of dramatic needlework"

Melinda Coss is the first person to get permission to use these works to chart Needlepoint Patterns. She has worked hard to show the original vibrant and earthy colors of the yarns chosen by these artists for these superb paintings in needlepoint (a paraphrase, again from the dust jacket).

This book has, as well as the charts and directions for these fine needlepoints, wonderful full color pictures of the Charleston Farmhouse that Vanessa Bell set up as a haven for her friends as well as her sister, Virginia Woolf. The introduction gives a brief history of the farmhouse and it's residents.

Each project has a full color picture of the finished needlepoint as well as a full color chart often with chart details in close-up, color numbers listed and directions. The yarns used are Appleton, Paterna and Paternayan Wools. British needlepoint designers rarely work with anything but wools.

The Bloomsbury Needlepoint book has 6 chapters, each representing a room in the house or the workshop. Each room has 2 or 3 needlepoint patterns in it.

There are the usual few pages of general instructions and techniques in the back of the book.

These designs are lovely, very much in the spirt of The Mission Arts & Crafts movement.

This book was published by Bulfinch Press in Boston, Toronto & London in 1992. This is a very hard-to-find, out of print book few people know about.

Bloomsbury Needlepoint, a hard cover book, is in excellent condition. Only some wear at the edges of the dust jacket keep it from being *gift quality*. The book inside and the pages are in great condition, as you can see.
