Needlepoint Talk Blog

If your looking for Needlepoint talk, visit our blog and find interesting topics and helpful tips.

NewNeedlepoint.com is a labor of love. I began my web store with the idea that I would build the kind of Needlepoint Web Store where I would like to shop.

I love color and I admire good design. My goal is to sell the best Needlepoint Designs, Books and Accessories I can.

I have a extensive selection of wonderful Hand Painted Needlepoint Canvases & Kits by some of today’s fine Needlepoint Designers including Danji Design, Laurel Burch, Eileen Best and many more.

NewNeedlepoint.com has a large collection of Needlepoint & Bargello Needlepoint Books. Most of the books are Hard-To-Find used books, some are quite Rare. Some of the books are maybe not so rare but are classic Needlepoint or Bargello Needlepoint Design or Reference Books.

I have picked out the best condition Books I could find, which is not as easy as you might think.

NewNeedlepoint has two new categories: NEW Needlepoint Books & NEW Bargello Books. These are direct from the publisher or distributor current Needlepoint or Bargello Needlepoint titles by some of today's well-known authors.

There are more to come.

NewNeedlepoint.com specializes in Beginner & Novice Needlepoint Kits and Books. The beginner level Needlepoint Kits are scattered everywhere in my listings as well as having their own category.

The Beginner Books do not…yet…have their own category.

NewNeedlepoint.com has an extensive selection of the excellent Patt & Lee Glicee’ Needlepoint Designs. They are all available as canvas alone plus most are also for sale assembled as a kit.

Claire Sanchez's fine Tote Bags and Shoulder Bags are both very stylish and very practical. The large Tote Bags with shoulder length straps and her slightly smaller Shoulder Bags never look like the sturdy and useful totes they are. The Shoulder Bags are also the perfect everyday bag.

There is also my small Needlepoint Tools Category. I don’t sell anything I am not familiar with, no Drop Ship here. This is where you will find Mighty Bright lamps, Laying tools, quality Gingher Scissors, DMC or Kreinik Color Cards and more.

NewNeedlepoint.com continues to change as I work to make it as good as it can be. I hope you like what you see.

Mary Rhodes is a well-known and expert English Needlepoint instructor. This is the 4rd copy of this Mary Rhodes book I have listed here on NewNeedlepoint.com.
As I buy these books to sell here some of them are becoming harder to get and more expensive. I am sorry about that but It is, I suppose, reality

It can be very difficult to find general needlepoint reference books aimed at the more experienced of advanced stitcher. That seems to be Mary Rhodes speciality.

Canvas work or needlepoint is one of the oldest types of traditional embroidery. It has remained popular through the centuries. In this book she approaches Canvas Work historically. She has chosen examples to illustrate the changes in this art, through the ages.

The back sections of the book discuss materials, stitches and effects. it includes several stitches I have never seen before. The book is loaded with pictures including a section of full color pictures in the center of the book.

Unlike Mary Rhodes reference books for more advanced stitchers, this book is for anyone who is interested in Needlepoint, from beginner to the most expert stitcher.

Now I want to read it too.

The Batsford Book of Canvas Work is a hardcover book published by B. T. Batsford Ltd, London in 1983. It has 240 pages. The is the 2nd copy of the book I have listed, so far. the first one sold quickly (not that i am pressuring you)

This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows signs of age but has no serious problems. The book is very good and the spine is tight. There is a Batsford price tag on the inside flap of the dust jacket. I did not want to risk removing it.

The cut page ends at the top of the book are very yellowed, the rest of the cut end pages are white, obviously the book has stood in a bookcase somewhere and this was the only part exposed to the air. It is yellow from aging, there is no foxing here.

Father B's 21st Century Book of Stitches

Father B is The Rev. Robert E. Blackburn. This wonderful little book began life as an assemblage of stitches developed by the ANG, the American Needlepoint Guild as the Stitch of the Month. The first edition, published in 1982 had less than 100 stitches. They continued producing editions of this book until 1994, by then they had 240 stitches plus many of the older stitches which had not been previously charted. I have recently learned that this is the final edition of this book, there ... More Info

Working On Canvas by Margaret Rivers: A Batsford CraftMasters Book

This book, from the Batsford Series on Canvas Work, or Needlepoint, is surprisingly unusual. right from the start, this is a book for an more experienced stitcher. There are unusual techniques and ideas in this book and quite a bit of Bargello as well. There is ribbon work, mixed media needlepoint, etc. There are some design ideas here that are quite "painterly". It is not a stitch reference, it is an idea and inspiration book and *inspired* is the word for it. I did not know ... More Info

The Encyclopedia of Canvas Embroidery Stitches by Katharine Ireys

This is the third copy of this book I have listed here, the first two sold quickly This is a wonderful needlepoint reference book featuring 170 stitch patterns. The subtitle calls it "the most complete collection ever published" I will not argue with that claim. The stitches are clearly and carefully diagrammed, for many of them multiple graphs are used to show how to stitch them. While there are many of the usual stitches here there are also a number of very interesting and advanced ... More Info

The Needlework Doctor by Mary Kay Davis

I was amazed when I found this book, I always thought there was a need for just this book but I did not know it existed. it is subtitled "How to Solve Every Kind of Needlework Problem". Mary Kay Davis is the co-author of America's Great Quilt Designs and More Needlepoint from Americas Great Quilt Designs. Both of those books are listed for sale here (or will be when I do them next, I already sold her Quilt book once). The chapters are: how to use this book preventive ... More Info
