NewNeedlepoint.com has been open almost 2 years now. There have been many changes as I find my “spot” in the on-line needlepoint community.

NewNeedlepoint.com specializes in books, both new and used books. The needlepoint and Bargello Needlepoint book categories are extensive. Many of the books here are rare, some are quite rare and all have reviews I have written.

There are pictures of all the books. I find a picture of the cover sometimes tells you more about a book then any review can.

All the used/rare books have pictures of the book cover or dust jacket plus a picture of the inside pages so you can see the condition of the books for yourself.

I know it is a given in the used book market that you keep the dust jacket, no matter the condition but I find many good or very good condition books inside terrible and dirty dust jackets. In that case I remove them, no matter what the market “says”.

NewNeedlepoint.com is currently expanding it’s collection of other Needlework books. Included are Cross-Stitch, Glorafilia, Ribbon Stitching, Embroidery, Punchneedle, Bead Stitching, Whitework, Blackwork, Beginner Needlepoint and more.

I will continue to sell selected needlepoint canvases & kits including the work of Patt & Lee Designs, Laurel Burch and more. The Patt & Lee collection of Scrap Thread canvases are a wonderful way to use your extra yarn and thread stash.

The items in the small tools category is also carefully chosen. I only sell tools I have used myself.

NewNeedlepoint.com continues to change while I work to make it as good as it can be. I hope you like what you see.

This is another of the amazing English needlepoint books. Canvas Work or Canvas Embroidery is the more common name for needlepoint in England. There is often some confusion with the titles of these interesting books in the USA.

This book has some very modern, very innovative mixed stitch and mixed media Needlepoint stitches, designs and ideas. Some of the designs are very "regular" and handsome and some of them remind me of these wildly expensive textile works of art you sometimes see.

This is a quote from the dust jacket "Diana Springall believes that necessary though technique is, the most rewarding element in embroidery lies in a conception which is individual and so, unique. Not only should the design be a personal one, but the stitches also should be used in an appropriate and characteristic way. Here technique, stitches, pattern and application are considered a single entity."

I think this says it all. There are many photographs and illustrations but only 8 in color (or should I say colour?) My bibliography gives it a B for moderate experienced stitchers. (with A for beginners & D for advanced). i think it more a C, myself.

There is a bit of Bargello and 135 stitches shown stitched & graphed. Canvas Embroidery is another fine Batsford book, published by B. T. Batsford Limited, London and Charles T Branford Co. in Newton, Massachusetts (where I grew up, not that it matters) in 1969. This is the English edition.

The book and dust jacket are in good condition. The dust jacket is worn at the top, bottom & edges but there are no holes or rips. The book inside is good, the pages are slightly yellowed at the edges, from age, but there is no foxing and no stains. The book has obviously been read & consulted but the spine is still good.

I think the condition is surprisingly good for a 1969 book from England.
