I did an article for Needlepoint Now magazine's July/August 2014 issue on The Needlework Doctor. At the time I had around 25 copies, laboriously collected over the previous months.
The demand for this book was overwhelming. I sold my whole stock in just a few days, I even sold my own copy.
When I tried to find more copies of this rare and important book I found that "the rare book market" had noticed what I was doing. The price for copies of this book skyrocketed. We are talking hundreds to thousands of dollars.
This exact thing has happened to me once before, over my sales of another rare book, Bargello: An Explosion in Color by Margaret Boyles.
I figured that eventually the prices for decent condition copies of The Needlework Doctor would go back down. It is 6 months later and the book is available again. Prices are much more reasonable then they were but may never again go as low as they were when this all started.
I always thought there was a need for just this book but I did not know it existed. it is subtitled "How to Solve Every Kind of Needlework Problem".
Mary Kay Davis is the co-author of America's Great Quilt Designs and More Needlepoint from Americas Great Quilt Designs. Both of those books are listed for sale here.
The chapters are:
how to use this book
Design & Color
Creative Problem Solving
In thumbing through this book it is all here. Not just how to fix a problem but basic questions like how many strands of thread do I use? etc.
This looks to me to be the one book we should all have on our needlework book shelves. I will go out on a limb here and call it *An Essential Book*
Published by Prentice Hall in 1982. It has 280 pages
I have mostly hardbound copies of this book, with dust jackets, in Good to Very Good condition. I have weeded out the real stinker copies and the ones with Foxing, a contagious virus paper gets when it is store incorrectly.
I will send you the best condition copy I have in stock. It may be hardcover or it may be paperbound but it will the best one I have at the time of your order.
Which copy you will get will depend on the order the books are bought. I do try to be fair. This time I am keeping a copy for myself.
Remember, this is a VERY RARE book
