Recently it had occurred to me that I had not sold a copy of this unique book by famous needlepoint author & teacher June McKnight. Well, just now while building the new June McKnight books category (I thought it was a good idea to have all her books in one place as well as in the various categories) I realized Needlepoint For Kids was not listed for sale in my web store.
I know it used to be, I have the picture on file so what happened to the listing? I suppose I will never know (another of life's little mysteries).
I don't know of another needlepoint instruction book that targets teaching kids needlepoint. I think it is a terrific idea. I know that sometimes I feel Beginner's Kits to a parent (ok, a mother) who's child wants to learn to stitch.
As always, June McKNight books are easy to follow and understand. This book is "voiced" for children. it dopes not talk down to them but it does address them directly.
The instruction begin at the very beginning, they are clear and have illustrations everywhere. The book is written with some humor. It will feel like "heavy going" to a child using it to learn to stitch.
I am impressed with this book. To give you an example from a random page (70)
You are correct. A Continental is a fancy name for a *baby bear*. A *baby bear* is the tiniest stitch of needlepoint. It goes across 2 holes but only one canvas thread. A Continental stitch leans to the right"
She makes remembering the sequences by nicknaming some of the stitches like the Bears (papa bear, momma bear, baby bear or baby, mama, papa, mama, baby, you get the idea)
There are also notes to the parents, when necessary, on such things are the materials needed etc.
This is a wonderful approach to needlepoint, easy to follow and entertaining.
Slef-Published by June McKnight, copyright 1995. Needlepoint For Kids is the usual small size book with a clear plastic cover protectors on the front and a metal spiral binding. It has 104 pages.
