This book was a runaway hit at the 2014 Destination Dallas show.
I sold my first copies in less than 2 weeks. I think this book might be a hit. This is the only book about this specific kind of stitching that I know of.
The author, Lynda Richardson, who know way more about this than I do, confirms that this is the only book that addresses open work backgrounds in any detail & depth.
The stitches in this collection are intended to be used as background stitches. There are (by my best count) 66 of them in this book.
Open work stitch backgrounds are increasingly popular. I noticed there was not a good reference book dedicated to these special stitches. Now there is.
The set-up of this book is somewhat unusual but after looking at it a bit, it does make sense. The book is divided into sections, named for various *Gifts* There are 15 of them ranging from the first, The Gift of Faith, in the middle are The Gift of Lifelong Friends, The Gift of Design to the last, An Embarrassment of Riches. These are just a few of the Gifts, there are many more.
The stitches are shown as black & white diagrams, with a few exceptions I think one would need to be a fairly experienced stitcher to do them but I might be wrong about that.
Jane, the master blogger of the Chilly Hollow Needlepoint Adventure Blog has written a much better then mine review of this new book.
The author has left a few pages blank for you to make notes. Lynda Richardson has added a few of her insights & stories to her book.
Inside the framework of the Gifts, the stitches are in Alphabetic Order.
Stitches A La Carte is a glossy cover paperbound book with a metal spiral binding. It is the perfect size to slip into your needlepoint tote bag (always a plus).
Published in 2014 by Dream House Publishing. The book has, in total, 93 pages.
