I had no idea what to call this wonderful new 2015 Laurel Burch needlepoint canvas. My best idea was *Dog and Cat Halo* but that did not seem right so I went back to the source, this year's Laurel Burch catalog.
They named it *Once Upon A Blue Moon* and there it was, in the upper left corner, the blue moon. Who am I to argue with perfection?
This colorful, hand painted canvas features 3 cats and 2 dogs (I think) leaping over the sun, under the moon.
The design area measures 11 x 13.5 inches. the entire canvas measures 16.6 X 18 inches. it is 18 mesh. The perimeters of the design could be stitched a little bigger or a little smaller. There is no fixed border.
I have assembled this kit using Anchor and DMC #8 size Perle Cotton Floss & Kreinik #12 size Metallic Braid Thread in Gold. #8 floss is wonderful for stitching 18 or smaller mesh canvas. It slides through with no pulling and little knotting. Using the slightly smaller (than you might be used to) Kreinik Metallic Thread in size 12 for 18 mesh is very good, easy to stitch.
I usually suggest stitching with one strand but I am told the coverage does not please some stitchers. You can stitch this using 1 or 2 strands of the #8 floss. Each ball is equal to 2 skeins so you should have plenty. Use just 1 strand of the Kreinik Metallic thread
Most NewNeedlepoint.com canvases have carefully taped edges. I use Professional Artists Tape. It sticks very well.
Each kit includes the correct size tapestry needle for this canvas.
The amounts of floss or yarn shown in the pictures are for color only, the actual amounts sent may vary from what is shown. The colors will not vary (at least not very much).
Needlepoint thread coverage is not an exact science. I try to make sure there is plenty to finish each canvas with some to spare. If you run short e-mail me and I will send you more at no extra cost.
Remember to stitch 1-2 additional rows all around the completed canvas for finishing.
Large needlepoint canvases will be rolled and sent in a mailing tube, smaller canvases will be sent flat in a padded
