This is an interesting book, the Monograms & Ciphers shown are all originals, designed & drawn by the author, A.A. Turbayne and other members of the Carlton Studio.
I had never heard of The Carlton Studio so I did a search for it. Several possibilities came back from the search. There is a Carlton College of Art in Minnesota. There is also Carlton Studio, associated TV in Nottingham our The Carlton Studio Winery, Wine Club etc.
Then again, the original book was 1906 so it could be anyplace or anyone.
This book has 1200 designs. Some of them are traditional looking, some look antique or ancient and some are quite modern. In the introduction the author calls the styles used:
Cursive or Running
and one he calls Rustic.
The monograms & ciphers are shown in 2 letter & 3 letter designs. Many, but far from all, are in a round format.
There are many unusual and excellent letter designs in this book but there are no designs for numbers.
As I said, you will not see the *same old* here.
This is a hard cover edition printed in 1990. It is an unabridged and unaltered re-publication the book which was originally published by T. C. & E. C. Jack, in Edinburgh in 1905.
All the designs are in Black & White. The pages are not numbered but there are, indeed, 1200 designs.
Monograms And Ciphers is in Very Good Condition. I have never seen a hard cover edition before. The conidtion is, in fact, Very Good and then some.
