It surprised me how very rare this book has become and how expensive
Marnie Ritter is a well-known name in the world of Needlepoint. This is her stitch book.
It does not appear to be *just another stitch book*, however.
Each stitch has it's own page, the graphed stitches are extraordinarily clear and easy to follow, as are the instructions. The biggest plus here is the size of each stitch graph.
I hate having to peer at them, put on my stitching glasses and try to figure out what these tiny little graphs are, multiples to the page.
This book is a real pleasure to consult. Am I letting my age show, Yes.
The sections in this well laid out book are:
Thread & Strand Philosophy
Stitching On The Diagonal
Scotch Stitch Variations
flat pattern variations
two & three step patterns
three or more step patterns
Stitches With Beads of Found Objects
and a bibliography & full index.
Most of us can learn something from this book, at least better understand some of the more complex stitches.
The graphs are in black & white (and gray scale). There are full color pictures on the stitches on the front & back covers, with a drawn guide inside telling you which stitch is which (sort of like the place guides in a box of candy, which chocolate is where).
This is a glossy cover plastic spiral bound book. Published by Marnie Ritter in 1992 with a second printing in 1992. It has 106 pages.
Marnie Ritter's Canvas Patterns is in Very Good condition. The covers have wear at the edges. The pages inside are fine heavy paper with no yellowing or markings. The spiral binding is intact.
