NewNeedlepoint.com just had it’s 3rd birthday. I am sometimes amazed that we made it this far. I keep making changes and tweaking my web store. I want it to be the best it can be.

NewNeedlepoint.com has 2 sections. There is my extensive collection of New Needlework books. I have expanded the books categories to cover other types of stitching in addition to Needlepoint.

There are knitting & crochet books, embroidery & cross-stitch books, color use & theory books and the catch-all misc. books category.

My Rare/Used Book titles are dictated by the books my customers want and the books that I can get, in reasonable condition. It is getting difficult to find decent, salable old books. Some of the Rare Books are getting quite hard to find.

I have also expanded the Rare/Used books categories to cover other types of Needlework.

I specialize in Bargello Needlepoint books although there aren’t that many of them out there, used or new.

The other side of NewNeedlepoint.com is the Canvases & Kits I sell. I stock mostly hand painted needlepoint designs by some of today’s great Needlepoint Designers. I have a special category for the gorgeous & colorful work of Laurel Burch.

I also have a good collection of Patt & Lee’s superior Glicee’ needlepoint designs including a whole section of Patt’s Scrap Threads collection. The perfect way to use all that extra stash we all have.

I assemble the kits myself, from the threads I love to stitch with. I use Anchor & DMC Perle Cotton Floss in sizes 3, 5 & 8. Also Kreinik Metallic Braid Thread in sizes 12 & 16.

I have a small Needlework Tool collection, all of it things I use and know work well.

I want to thank all my customers for 3 great years, so far. This coming year should be as interesting as the last 3 have been.

If you have read many of the used book listings here you know I taught myself Needlepoint & Bargello Needlepoint from books. This is the #1 book that taught me to stitch, and stitch correctly, Bargello Needlepoint.

Margaret Boyles is a Master Teacher, her directions are concise and clear. her graphs are in full color and good size you don't have to peer at them with a magnifying glass.

I always have trouble finding this book in good condition or even decent condition. Each time I replace this book, it costs more than the last time. I know the price is high, it reflects the "market". Bargello: An Explosion in Color is becoming very rare and very expensive.

An update: more rare and more expensive every time I look for them.

The book is set up in sensibly, going from easy to stitch all the way to advanced & 4 Way Bargello. It took me 3 months to go from easy to fairly advanced but I will admit there are some patterns that are still beyond me and I haven't yet managed a successful 4-Way Bargello.

Ms Boyles begins the book with a primer on materials, then stitches. Then Bargello tips and understanding Bargello design. My first Bargello project, after Ripple of course, everyone does Ripples first, was Canvas 11 from page 45.

I stitched my way through the book. Not full size projects but sample sizes to learn the stitches. As I finished Canvas 52, an Average Level Florentine Embroidery Flat Top Pattern on page 104 I began to get very busy building NewNeedlepoint.com.

But I wanted to try an Advanced Pattern. I stitched Canvas 53, on page 106. It came out very good, good enough that I offered the pattern in my (now closed, never sold even 1) Bargello Category.

The book has further sections on Mitred Bargello, which is what she calls 4-Way Bargello and finishing & mounting instructions.

Anyway, I know I am talking about myself here. I want you to understand how great this book is.

This copy of Bargello: An Explosion in Color is very good condition. The dust jacket's edges are ragged but the book inside is very good.

A former owner put a small address label on the inside front cover.

The pages are somewhat yellowed from age...even with these things this is a very good copy of a vary rare book.

Beautiful Bargello by Joyce Petschek

This is, without doubt, a beautiful showcase book of Bargello Needlepoint. The fact that it has very well done full color graphs, thread and yarn quantities lists and directions is like frosting on this cake. Ms Petschek has designed a lovely book full of incredible Bargello patterns in wonderful colors. That pretty much covers all the words of this type I know so.... This is not a book that will teach you Bargello Needlepoint but if you already know your way around, you will find 26 ... More Info

The Bargello Book by Frances Salter

I thought this book was out-of-print, I guess it was for a while. This is a new 2006 re-printing of the original 1993 classic Bargello Pattern book. I have several used or not new copies of the 1995 A & C Black, London edition of this book for sale here in my rare Bargello Books category including one Gift Quality Edition. I was under the impression that these were the only editions available. I have compared this 2006 LACIS Publications edition with my British originals and they seem ... More Info

The Best Bargello Book by June McKnight

I think these books by June McKnight are terrific. She is a great Needlepoint Teacher and her books explain & show you exactly what she intends to, no muss, no fuss. Still, I have to take exception to her title "The Best Bargello Book". It is, indeed a very good, even a excellent Bargello Book, but the best? All my carping aside. This is larger then the usual June McKnight books but in the same basic format. She begins at the beginning, with the canvas, goes to threads, the first ... More Info

The Craft of Florentine Embroidery by Barbara Snook

I have 2 books by Barbara Snook with very similar names. This book is The Craft of Florentine Embroidery which was published in 1971 and the other is Florentine Embroidery published in 1967. They are different books. The one I am listing here is 1971's The Craft of Florentine Embroidery. The author, in her introduction says the term "Florentine is used to cover varieties of Florentine Stitch and Hungarian Point." it is also called Flame Stitch or Lightning Patterns etc. All these ...
