NewNeedlepoint.com just had it’s 3rd birthday. I am sometimes amazed that we made it this far. I keep making changes and tweaking my web store. I want it to be the best it can be.

NewNeedlepoint.com has 2 sections. There is my extensive collection of New Needlework books. I have expanded the books categories to cover other types of stitching in addition to Needlepoint.

There are knitting & crochet books, embroidery & cross-stitch books, color use & theory books and the catch-all misc. books category.

My Rare/Used Book titles are dictated by the books my customers want and the books that I can get, in reasonable condition. It is getting difficult to find decent, salable old books. Some of the Rare Books are getting quite hard to find.

I have also expanded the Rare/Used books categories to cover other types of Needlework.

I specialize in Bargello Needlepoint books although there aren’t that many of them out there, used or new.

The other side of NewNeedlepoint.com is the Canvases & Kits I sell. I stock mostly hand painted needlepoint designs by some of today’s great Needlepoint Designers. I have a special category for the gorgeous & colorful work of Laurel Burch.

I also have a good collection of Patt & Lee’s superior Glicee’ needlepoint designs including a whole section of Patt’s Scrap Threads collection. The perfect way to use all that extra stash we all have.

I assemble the kits myself, from the threads I love to stitch with. I use Anchor & DMC Perle Cotton Floss in sizes 3, 5 & 8. Also Kreinik Metallic Braid Thread in sizes 12 & 16.

I have a small Needlework Tool collection, all of it things I use and know work well.

I want to thank all my customers for 3 great years, so far. This coming year should be as interesting as the last 3 have been.

Canvas Embellishment The Sequel by Linda Corirossi

The subtitle on the cover of this book says " Colorful Stitches for Needlepoint."

This book, the Sequel to her amazing "Canvas Imbellishment" has been out of print for a long time. It was very recently re-issued and I thought it might be a very valuable Needlepoint Stitch book so I ordered one of each, despite it's high price.

In the Introduction to the first book the author says that the book(s) is/are the result of 15 years of teaching needlepoint. The author goes on to say that in the beginning it was all Continental (tent) stitch and Basketweave.

Then it went to samplers using 12-25 stitches. She goes on to say that finally her students wanted to stitch hand painted canvases with some of the sampler stitches they learned. That is how *Canvas Embellishment* was born (her words).

She explains Canvas Embellishment as using stitches & fibers to add texture, depth and life to a canvas.

You can always tell when you reading an expert's words and this struck me as just that. Plus it was very interesting to me since I came to Needlepoint at the end of what she calls "the sampler period".

The introduction to the sequel goes on to say that there have been so many new variations on Stitches that she had to write this second book.

The Chapters are:
Clothing
Building & Architecture
Flowers & Plants
Trims, Accents & Decorative Stitches
Beards Hair & Fur
Backgrounds

By "clothing: she means "imitate actual fabric in clothing with different textures & patterns".

In the Plants chapter she specializes in stitches that will be perfect (or better) for flowers, leaves, trees, grass, fruits & vegetables.

Buildings etc. is using fubers & textures to create structures on canvas.

The beards etc chapter is new to this book. The author says they are easy to create with stitches & unique fibers.

This book is extraordinary, as is Ms Corirossi's other book. I am so impressed with it (and that does not happen to often, I see so many books) that I am ordering a copy of each for myself.

The book is clearly self-published. I do not see a publication date or ISBN # anywhere.

It is a large spiral bound paper bound book with 118 pages but each page is only printed on one side.

Selling New Books is very different from selling my used, hard-to-find or rare books. New books have a set retail price and I have to compete in the “marketplace”.

NewNeedlepoint.com will be charging the full retail price for these fine new books but I will mail them for free. Please consider the Free Shipping as a Discount.

Textured Canvas Work by Alison Park

The cover photo on this book is very interesting, it is a smallish area of needlework incorporating (as far as I can count) 9 different textures in the stitching. It really is something, very effective. This is another of the fine needlework books from Sally Milner's Milner Craft Series of books published in Australia in 1994. This is a hard-to-get, rare book. Harder to get in such good condition Keep in mind that most British & Australian stitchers call Needlepoint Canvas Work. ... More Info

The Principles of Color by Faber Birren

The cover attracted me to this book. It shows the same graphic done on 4 colorways. This clearly illustrates the effect color can and does have on design. The subtitle is : A Review of Past Tradition and Modern Theories. To quote the back cover (always a good resource) "This is an essential basic book on color, written by the best-known colorist of our times, for beginners seeking a through grounding in the comprehension and solution of color problems and for mature artists and ... British Country House Needlepoint by Frances Kennett & Belinda Scarlett

This is a large & lovely book full of traditional designs you would associate with a Grand House in the English Countryside. The designs are gorgeous and the settings are wonderful. There is a map on the 6th page of the book showing us which houses, exactly, these designs came from. There are 15 of them spread throughout England. Most of the designs are taken from antique needlework. Each design has a full color picture of the original, very easy to read charts and a color key tied to ... More Info

Victorian Designs for Needlepoint by Phyllis Kluger

This author's other book, A Needlepoint Gallery of Patterns from the Past (which is also available here) has been a steady selling book from the time I began selling books on NewNeedlepoint.com. I did not know Phyllis Kluger was the author of any other needlework books until I found this book. Quoting the back cover (as usual) " Victorian Design for Needlepoint contains more than thirty needlepoint designs inspired by the decorative and ornamental art of turn-of-the-century England and ...
