A brand new book by Carole Lake, the co-author with Michael Boren on the 2 Desert Island Stitches books and of volume 1 & 2 of The Twisty Stitches series. They are also the authors of Painted Stitch Embellishment.
This book is Carole's alone. The subtitle is Dozens Of Last Minute Stitch Ideas and like the Desert Island Stitch books, it is the perfect size for your needlepoint tote, to carry with you. This is interesting, each actual stitch in the stitch graphs is numbered so you know what order to do them in. I did not even notice this until a customer asked me if they were numbered. And they are.
She also refers to this books as "A Take Along Idea Book".
A quote from the preface: "Do you ever look at your canvas and wonder what on earth to put in a particualr spot?"
"Just in the nick of time, here is a book of suggestions."
She goes on to say:'Dozens of stitches are included along with how, when and where to use them."
The interesting book also includes a quick refresher on Tent (Continental) and Basketweave stitches.
The stitches shown in the book are arranged alphabetically. Carole suggests that turning the book and looking at a potential stitch from a differerent angle, gives the stitch a totally different look.
In paging through Just In The Nick Of Time I found that each stitch had a page of it's own, the graphs are good and easy to read and the instructions excellent including suggestions on where and how to use each stitch.
There were a number of stitches I have never seen before.
Yes, I did turn the book sideways and upside down and yes, the stitches change. I never thought of that before.
A useful book.
