Trish Burr's stitchery books mostly call themselves Embroidery books but as I and many needlepointers already know, they are wonderful and very useful needlepoint books as well.
Very little shown in any of Ms. Burr's books is not applicable to needlepoint and in fact, I list a lot of them here alreadfy including:
Needle Painting Embroidery & Redoute's Finest Flowers. Her book Long & Short Stitch Embroidery is maybe the best book on Long & Short Stitch which is useful in many designs and featured in all the Glorafilia Needlepoint designs. Color Confidence is a very important book for astitchers interested in using wonderful and effective colors in thier work.
OK, that said, the subtitle to Miniature Needlepainting Embroideru is: Vintage Portraits, Florals & Birds.
Quoting (and paraphrasing) from the back cover: "..contains 18 miniature embroidery projects from the \talented trisg Burr and follows on from her Color Confidence in Embroidery. The designs are based on the pretty romantic illustrations typical of the Victorian & post-Victorian eras."
"Being self-taught, Trish understands the need for clarity & how to present instructions in the simplist manner so they are easy to follow-each project contains com, prehensive thread listings, numerous steo-by-step photographs and row by row ibnstructions. A detailed thread diagram show exactly which color should be used where."
I too am a self-taught stitcher & I know the importance of the clarity & accessibility they are talking about.
The projects are grouped into sectiuons: portraits, birds, flowers, and miniature pansies. In paging through this book, I am impressed by the depth of the detail. Full color pictures of everything and black & white templates to transfer the designs.
Althought the book begins with the basics, information and detailed stitch instruction in several forms and variation of Long & Short Stitch, this is not a book for beginners. Some experience in stitchery is need but not advanced expertise, just some prior experience.
This is another of the excellent books from Sally Milner Publishing in New South Wales, part of the Milner Craft Series of books. It was published in 20014. Miniature Needle Painting Embroidery is a coffee table size, glossy cover paperbound book with 199 pages.
Distributed in the US by Sterling Publishing. This is a new book but it does show a little bit of shelf wear from being stored.
