The inspiration for this design is an Antique Wood Block Print. I had no idea how this design would look when stitched, really. I don't have the time to stitch most of the designs I do, so I visualize them stitched. I always liked this design but even so......When I saw the Antique Wood Block Peony stitched I was floored, for lack of a better word.
This is a somewhat unique needlepoint canvas. It is a NewNeedlepoint.com original design. When I first started my web store I tried designing & selling these line drawn canvases. My idea was to give the stitcher the choice of what colors used. I had had some terrible experiences whiting out or stitching over prainted colors so I thought this was a good idea.
I don't know if it was a terrible idea or my web store was just too new and no one every went there but these were not successful. I have a few of them, still byt this is the best of them, IMO.
This design has been Stitch Drawn on 18 mesh canvas. The design area is a circle 7.5 inches across. The entire canvas is 13x 11.5 inches.
Below is a previous version of this design stitched by Dr. Denise Neilsen-Hall of Chicago. This will give you an idea of how this canvas could look when stitched.
I have assembled this Kit using the same color as the sample but using DMC #8 size Perle Cotton Thread. I suggest you stitch with the #8 doublerd for a fuller (but not too full) look.
Dr. D stitched with wool, which gives it a too heavy look & feeling. It is much better (and much easier) to stitch this using a doubled strand of #8 Perle Cotton Thread
I have used DMC #8 Perle Cotton Floss. if you haven't stitched 18 mesh canvas with #8 floss yet you are in for a pleasant surprise. This design should be stitched with the floss doubled for adequate coverage of these deep, rich colors.
#8 size Perle Cotton Floss only comes in double skien balls, so the kit will include enough extra if you want to make the circle up to 1/2 inch bigger across. There is plenty of room on the canvas to do so and still have room for the 2-3 rows of extra stitching for finishing, if you want.
Each kit includes the correct size needle for this canvas.
The amounts of floss or yarn shown in the pictures are for color only, the actual amounts sent may vary from what is shown. The colors will not vary.
Needlepoint thread coverage is not an exact science. I try to make sure there is plenty to finish each canvas with some to spare. If you run short e-mail me and I will send you more at no extra cost.
Remember to stitch 2-3 additional lines all around the completed canvas for finishing.

Large needlepoint canvases will be rolled and sent in a mailing tube, smaller canvases will be sent flat in a padded envelope.
