More and more needlepointers also enjoy cross stitch, as I remove needlepoint canvases and kits from sale in my web store, I want to expand the kinds of needlework books I offer.
Cross Stitch and Counted Thread Work are often interchangable, the designs and charts for either can often be used for both. When I saw this book, I thought that while there are many cross stitch design books, there are very few that will let you combibe and design your own.
From the back cover, the Cross Stitch Design Manual offers:
50 designs in full color, these are mostly the result of combining the charts, alphabets and borders in this book.
100 Charts to use
This one is new: Family Crosswords and Commemorative Work
Samplers and Large designs
A creative Ciurse for Beginners
Advice for more experienced needlworkers
How to chart your own designs.
The book begins with the usual information, useful to beginners but then there is a section on something I have no often seen before
'How To Read Patterns" This is something we are expected to know but some of us do not.
The first chapter is Calligraphic Cross Stitch, then Borders and Linked Motifs, Crosswords and Commemorative Work, Designs For The Seasons, Small Gifts, Large Projects, Crossing the Boundaries, and A Years Work.
There is not much instruction and no color keys, you are left to choose your own. The charts are clear and seems easy to use.
