This is a *special advance copy* of Carolyn Ambuter's book. It is from Carol Korman's collection of books, she was sent an advance copy to review before publication.
There is some interesting information here, printed on the plain cover. This is stuff that a regular copy of any book does not, generally, have.
Selection of: The Book-of-the Month's Cooking & Crafts Club. and Woman's How-To Book Club
Alternarte Selection of: CBS Needle Arts Society, Better Homnes & Gardens Crafts Club and Family Book Service.
There were 60,000 copies in the first printing (a lot for a book of this kind)
Published ny Quadrangle/New York Times Book Co and Workman Publishing Co. 1976.
Other then the plain heavy paper cover, the book inside is exactly the same as the one you would buy in a book store, even to the large square format.
The title of this book pretty much sumes up the contenets, it is full of needlepoint designs for all the special occasions in life.
It is not a project book, or it is but only sort of. Each (or most) of the designs are graphed but there are no further instructions, color charts (to speak of), or anything else.
The book is intended for a more experienced stitcher.
There are some wonderful designs in here. In the Chapter SPECIAL OCCASIONS there are 6 designs.
The Chapter TIME has a sexction on Thge Language and Symbolism of a Calendar of Flowers as well as 12 designs for each month's pillow (or picture).
THE ASTROLOGICAL YEAR has 14 designs. A mixture of pictures, pillow and rugs.
FOR OUR CHILDREN has 5 designs including a Birth Record design.
SPECIAL INTERESTS has 3 designs. An Open & Closed Sign, American Eagle Pillow, Shop Sign.
Those are the design sections, there are also chapters on Materials and How To Start and Finish, Stitches and Stitch Vocabulary, Lettering and Alphabets. There is a rudimentary color chart, tied to each design (in name onkly, no colors shown) in the back, I don't recomend it.
This is an book full of wonderful designs, for unusual and special events.
As I said, Published in 1976. This paperbound book with 221 pages is in extraordinary condition. Clearly it has been on Carol Korman's shelves since it was new. There is a tiny bit of wear at the corners, ortherwise perfect.
I recently bought this collection of fine vintage and out-of-print needlework books from Carol Korman. Carol is, like me, very interested in Color & Color Theory. There are many excellent books on this among the books she sent me. Some of these books are very rare and unique.
Carol was raised in Anchorage, Alaska. Her Husband travelled the world as a Civil Engineer, they lived in 6 countries over 22 years. She studied Needlepoint & Embroidery all over the world.
On retirement she took classes at the EGA (Embroidery Guild of America) and ANG (American Needlepoint Guild). She became certified as a Needlework Judge for both EGA and ANG.
Carol went on the become a Master EGA Needlework Judge.
In 2000 Carol Korman became ANG Western Area Representative, she was president on ANG from 2006 to 2008.
Carol and her husband live in Texas, at 80 she still stitches. Carol and I both hope that her books add to your pleasure as you pursue Needlepoint
