Maggie Lane is a very well known name in Needlepoint, she is the author of a number of books including Needlepoint By Design: Variations on Chinese Themes, More Needlepoint By Design, Maggie Lane's Needlepoint Pillows and her work on the iconic book Pageant and Pattern for Needlepoint Canvas with Shirlee Lanz, Chinese Rugs Designed For Needlepoint not to mention Gold and Silver Needlepoint.
These remain important needlepoint books, even all these years later. This book is less well known than some of her others. The designs are wonderful.
Rugs and Wall Hangings was published in 1976. It does have a number of designs with Mrs. Lane's trademark Oriental design but it has other types of design as well including several graphic based.
The graphs are full sized for the rugs and wall hangings they will be, The directions are complete and easy to follow. The colors and amounts of threads needed as well as detailed color placement instructions. The introduction says that the graphs can all be stitched using just Basketweave Stitch, as was typical in the 70's. Of course more complex decorative stitches can be used, as well. The only real skill needed to stitch these gorgeous designs is the ability to read and follow a graphed pattern. The graphs, etc, are in black and white but there is a full color, full page picture of each project, stitched.
Maggie Lane was raised in China, the child of missionary parents, her Oriental influencecd designs are spectacular and authentic.
Published in 1976 by Charles Scribner's Sons, this is a large hard cover book with 161 pages.
Rugs and Wall Hangings is in Very Good condition. The dust jacket is a worn at the edges but much better then many books this old. I have taped the edges of the dust jacket to prevent further damage. The book inside is Very Good, there is slight yellowing of the pages and the dust jacket. The spine is tight.
