This wonderful book is from my own collection. I have always been fascinated by Mary Stuart. She is famous for her exquisite needlepoint. In fact, it seems that needlework was a major occupation for her during her many years of captivity.
Two of my favorite movies feature Mary and Elizabeth 1. Mary Queen of Scots from 1971 with Vanessa Redgrave remains, for me, the movie although there have been many remakes. That and Elizabeth R, the BBC series, also in 1971 with Glenda Jackson as Elizabeth and marvbelous Vic=vian Pickles (and that voice) as Mary.
However I am getting way off subject here. This is not an education or pattern book, it will not teach you any techniques or stitches but it will give you a complete histopry of Marty's needleart with many pictures. A good number of the pictures are full color and what really surprised me, was the preservation and condition of Mary's canvases.
This is a matte cover paperbound book published by Costume and Fashion press in 2004. The original hardcover edition of this wonderful book was published in 1973.
The Needlework of Mary Queen of Scots is considered an important book on the lady and her art.
