Plus a metric conversation table, important for a book published in London.
Miniature Needlepoint Carpets is a small and compact paperbound book. Puyblished by The Guild Of Master Craftsmen Publishers in Lewes, England in 1976. This edition is the 3rd re-printing.

This book has become very rare. This is the best condition copy I could find. The book itself is in OK/Good condition but the cover has some smudge/dirt marks. I have cleaned these as best I could without damaging the book.

The spine is holding together and there are no missing or falling pages but the best I can say for it is that it is a readable and useable copy of a hard-to-find book.

*Gift Quality* Beth Russell's Victorian Needlepoint

This is another of the lovely, glossy Beth Russell Needlepoint books. It's subject is Victorian Needlepoint and as always, Beth Russell has produced a beautiful book of pictures, needlepoint designs and graphs you can stitch.

The subject of Victorian Needlepoint crosses into the Arts & Crafts Movement in art and design during the late Victorian years. Ms. Russell has also covered this area in her William Morris needlepoint Book (also a gift quality book for sale here).

In this book she covers, as well as the work of William Morris, William de Morgan, G. P & J. Baker, and of course L. C. Tiffany.

The book contains 25 designs and charts. As the pictures and charts are in full color. Victorian Needlepoint was published by Crescent Books in New York in 1989. it has become a very hard-to-find book.

It is in very good condition. The book inside is perfect, as you can see.

*Gift Quality* An Illustrated History of Needlework Tools by Gay Ann Rogers- VERY RARE

This it the "crown jewel" of my collection. This is an extremely rare copy of this interesting book by Gay Ann Rogers. This book is in Terrific Condition. It's rarity and condition make it a perfect gift for someone you know who loves to stitch.

An Illustrated History of Needlework Tools is a comprehensive, authoritative survey of these wonderful objects. It is particularly valuable for it's coverage of of the Victorian & early 20th Century periods.

The growth of interest in this area is reflected in the increased prices for these classic tools.

This book is aimed at collectors who want a guide to help them identify a particular tool as well as those who want a more general history of needlework tools.

This book contains hints for collectors, what to look for and when to avoid buying. There are hundreds of examples and pictures from Britain, Europe, America and Asia.

All the tools are illustrated and fully described in the main index as well as in the captions.

The main categories covered are:
workboxes
sewing cases
chatelaines
needlecases
thimbles & thimblecases
scissors
tape measures
emery & wax holders
pincushions
thread containers
clamps
tatting shuttles
lace bobbins
crochet hooks
knitting & netting tools

This is an interesting book, just to look through, I have enjoyed just looking at it while I wrote this listing. The pictures are wonderful and very good size, making it easy to see details. I am looking at the Scissors section right now, they are very beautiful and some of them are so unusual.

Gay Ann Rogers has been studying and collecting needlework tools for many years on both sides of the Atlantic. She is a Needlepoint Designer as well as the author of several other Needlepoint Books.

An Illustrated History of Needlework Tools was published by John Murray in London in 1983.

This book is in very good condition. There is a clear plastic cover on the dust jacket, protecting it. The book came that way and I have left it on, to further protect this fine book. There are no markings of any kind anywhere on or in this book.

All the pictures in this book, and there are many, many of them, are black & white photographs.

In fact, I have not found a page yet without at least 1 photo on it, most have more.

I have posted a lot of pictures to show you the great condition of this book. There is no yellowing, tears, anything. The Dust Jacket is a bit worn at the edges, under the plastic protective cover.

THIS BOOK WILL BE SENT USING USPS PRIORITY MAIL WITH DELIVERY CONFIRMATION

*Gift Quality"* Fruits of the Earth by Hugh Erhman

A beautiful, sumptuous book of needlepoint by Hugh Erhman, the founder of Erhman Tapestrys. Mr. Erhman began his career as an editor for Vogue Magazine. In 1978 he opened a shop in London, connected with the London Art Colleges, featuring the best of contemporary crafts. At the same time he and his brother launched Erhman Tapestry, which is still a popular source of fine needlepoint kits.

the subtitle of this book is :
"Flowers and Fruits in Needlepoint". he goes on to write that it is "an inspiring, glorious selection of more then 40 needlepoint creations from today's leading designers"

Some of the designs are graphed but not all. The pictures are gorgeous. They are all, even the graphs, in full color.

Fruits of the Earth Needlepoint features the work of:
Margaret Murton
Kaffe Fasset
Susan Skeen
Jill Gordon
Lillian Delevoryas
Ann Blockley
Deborah Kemball
Nancy Kimmins

I am only on page 53 of 115, so you get the idea. Candace Bahouth, Elian McCready et al are in this book.

Fruits of the Earth was published by Simon and Schuster in 1991. This hard cover book is in excellent condition. The only flaws are a very small tear in the dust jacket, at the top of the spine, which I have scotch taped and a very discreet, small store name sticker on the page before the title. The pages are fine and the spine is tight.

Your House in Needlepoint by Susan Higgenson

I have become a fan of Susan Higgenson Needlepoint books. I kept her excellent small needlepoint stitch book from my very first order of books. It is comprehensive and the perfect size to slip into a tote bag.

I have lost count of how many copies of this book I have sold here, so many that they are getting very hard to get and much more expensive. I apologize for the price increase, it reflects what I am paying for this book, now.

The author, an experienced author & needlepoint teacher, takes you through all the stages of planning and executing a needlepoint picture of your home.

The book includes stitch descriptions and diagrams plus sections about special effects, choice of materials, alphabets and presentation.

There are also 18 different and detailed designs fully illustrated and described including graphs of the stitches used.

This hardcover book was published in England in 1990.

The book is in very good condition. The dust jacket is in OK condition, the edges of the dust jacket are ragged and there is a small tear, which I have taped, at the top near the spine.

The book inside is excellent, almost like a new book, and the spine is tight

Needlework Patterns from the Metropolitan Museum of Art by Susan Siegler

Susan Siegler is the supervisor of Special Projects at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this handsome book is the response to the many requests that the museum has received over the years, for needlework patterns based on it's great textile and stitchery collections.

All of the patterns in this book are adaptations of embroideries and tapestries in the museum's collections.

The ones chosen are not necessarily the most famous or valuable, they were chosen to "delight, teach and challenge today's needleworker".

The designs are for Needlepoint, Crewel Work and for Embroidery. They are very interesting.

Each design has instructions including material needed but no graphs or templates. There is a black & white photo of the piece on the facing page.

All the photos in this book are b&w, which is unfortunate except for 3 sections of full color photos throughout the book, of about 5 pages each. Each project is shown in a color picture. I do wish they had been able, back when this book was published, to put the color picture of the projects with the instructions. Oh well. At least they are there and the table of contents tells you where each one is.

This book is not for a beginning stitcher, an experienced intermediate or advanced level stitcher is needed to be able to use these directions and replicate these designs.

Published in 1976 by the New York Graphic Society in Boston. Needlework Patterns from the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a large hard cover book with 184 pages.

This book is in very good condition. Even the dust jacket is pretty good, just with ragged edges. The spine is tight and the pages inside are very good. They are slightly yellowed, due to the age of this book.

There is a bit of light foxing on the cut edge of the pages at the top of the book.

This is a rare & hard to find book.

Victorian Designs for Needlepoint by Phyllis Kluger

This author's other book, A Needlepoint Gallery of Patterns from the Past (which is also available here) has been a steady selling book from the time I began selling books on NewNeedlepoint.com.

I did not know Phyllis Kluger was the author of any other needlework books until I found this book.

Quoting the back cover (as usual) " Victorian Design for Needlepoint contains more than thirty needlepoint designs inspired by the decorative and ornamental art of turn-of-the-century England and America, from London's Crystal Palace exhibition to the Vanderbilt mansion in New York. The Victorian era was a time of enormous creativity in the arts, and these exquisite patterns are adapted from such varied sources as the famous Water Tower in Chicago, an Aubbrey Beardsley flower, a William Morris carpet and even a Paine's Celery Compound label. Each design is accompanied by a brief description of it's origins. Photographs of the original inspirations are also included.

Clear step-by-step instructions are given for all the stitches used in the book and for wonderful projects such as a beaded belt, an evening bag, upholstery for a footstool and a bookcover. Beautiful color photographs illustrate exactly how the finished needlework will look."

OK, I admit I am a fan of The Arts & Crafts Movement art, so I am inclined to like this book.

After paging through it I agree that each project has clear directions, a complete color placement guide and easy to read graphs (although I might wish the graphs were bigger they do each fit on a single page, which is worth a lot).

There is a chapter on how to use this book, materials needed etc. A stitch dictionary section and a Portfolio of Designs and a chapter of "Instructions for Projects" which is about finishing them.

This is not a book for a beginner but any moderately experienced or advanced stitcher will have fun here. The full color pictures are all grouped in the center of the book.

Again, I am biased but I do like the designs in this book, another very good needlepoint book by Phyllis Kluger.

Victorian Designs for Needlepoint is a hardcover book, published by Holt, Rinehart and Winston in 1978. it has 86 pages.

This book is very rare and then some. In trying to replace the first two copies that I sold here I bought (sight unseen, as usual) 2 copies of this book which were unsalable (and always described to me as Very Good). This copy is indeed Very Good inside the terrible dust jacket.

The only word for the dust jacket is ragged. I have taped it all up to prevent more damage.

The book 's hard cover & inside pages are very good. Only slightly yellowed by age. Someone, some time ago, removed a name & address sticker and there is brown residue from that measuring 1.5 X 1 inch.

The pages are clean and the spine is good.

Needlework Masterpieces from Winterthur by Hollis Greer Minor

Many books use the word "Masterpieces" in their titles, few deserve it. Some do however and this is one of them. This is a collection of excellent needleworks from the Winterthur Musuem. This museum is in Delaware and has the world's finest collection of decorative artefacts (copied that phrase from the dust jacket, love those words).

The museum specializes in things made or used between 1640 and 1860 in what is now the United States of America.

There are 30 needlepoint projects in this fine book including one Bargello Needlepoint. The back of the book has an assortment of Christmas Themed designs.

All the pictures in this book are full color, the graphs are all full color as well. Each design has some background information and stitching instructions as well as a thread color guide with amounts needed.

These are absolutely beautiful designs in a very beautiful book. Check out the fruits beginning on page 86 or the incredible *lunch box size* needlepoint purse beginning on page 58.

Needlework Masterpieces from Winterthur is a large size glossy cover paperbound book. it was published by David & Charles in England in 2001. it has 127 pages. I listed it a wile ago and it sold right away, I have not re-listed it until now, no idea why I delayed.

Needlework Masterpieces from Winterthur is in excellent condition. The paper cover is fairly scratched from wear but there are no tears or bends. The book inside is like new.

The picture below is of the same design done in different colorways.

Gold and Silver Needlepoint by Maggie Lane

In researching, reading and looking at the titles pages and credits of all the Needlepoint Books I have been listing these last few weeks, several names have come to my attention over & over.

One of them is Maggie Lane. She has been thanked, cited as a source, credited with creating stitch charts and cited as a source.

There are just a few books out there actually by Maggie Lane however, they are very good needlepoint books. This continues to be a popular book.

In Gold and Silver Needlepoint Ms. Lane has charted and described 12 brand new designs based on Oriental Motifs and art works that are enhanced with either gold or silver metalic thread.

These threads are used in every design, alone of mixed with silk or cotton floss. There are designs for 2 Evening Bags, 7 Panels and 3 Scrolls.

This book is hard-to-find and very rare in very good condition. This copy is indeed Very Good. The dust jacket is slightly bent at the edges but otherwise intact.

The pages insides are also Very Good. They are slightly yellowed by age. The spine is tight. I don't think this wonderful book was opened much.

This is a large hardcover book, published by Charles Scribner's Son in 1983.

It5 does have full color pictures.

Well-known needlepoint author B. Bossuck has written this very nice book of projects based on traditional motifs and designs-Hebrew Alphabets, Bibical Themes, The Menorah, The Mogen David, the Emblems of the Twelve Tribes and more.

Most of the designs are shown in stitching graph form, a few of them are shown as line drawings.

The book is set up in sections.
Section 1-Star of David gives you basic instructions on stitching the Star of David as well as over all basics.

Section 2- Alphabets. This sections gives you the names and pronunciations of the Hebrew letters. There are 23 designs in this section including graphes of how to stitch the letters.

Section 3- Biblical Themes has 6 designs

Section 4- Antiquity has 11 designs and patterns

Section 5 is Contemporary. 8 designs influenced by modern design.

The end of the book is a stitch identification page and a few pages of tips & hints plus a bibliography.

There are 6 pages of color pictures, several to a page. The colors used in these designs are wonderful, the traditional blue and white and way beyond.

Published by Arco Publishing in 1979 this is a hard cover book with 128 pages.

The Star of David Needlepoint Book is in Very Good condition. The edges of the dust cover are worn and bent but it is intact. The book inside is very good, only slightly yellowed by age. The spine is tight.

Japanese Motifs for Needlepoint by Sally Nicoletti

"The designs in this book are from an unusual source. They are based on the motifs found in Japanese Noh Theater Costumes. Each design in this book is presented in complete how-to detail with stitch by stitch graphs, color keys and full color illustrations plus B & W close-ups of the finished product" This is a quote from the dust jacket describing this book. It was published by William Morrow & Co in 1981.

Japanese Motifs for Needlepoint has a chapter on the basics, 14 full-color pictures and 30 designs using 99 graphs and 43 photographs.

The author, Sally Nicoletti, is a painter. She first began designing Needlepoint when she was in Art School. Authentic source material is her special interest as a designer. After seeing an exhibition of Japanese Noh Theater Costumes she began researching the costumes and the designs which led to this book.

The book is in very good condition. The dust jacket looks a bit worn with an paper edge at the top spine that is crushed. The book inside is in very good condition. the pages look like this book has been hardly even opened. It is getting harder to find, this copy cost a lot more then the last one.

New Adventures in Needlepoint Design by Natalie Hays Hammond

When I bought this, sight unseen, I thought I was getting just another needlepoint design book, I could not have been more wrong. This unique book is all about stitching what Ms Hammond calls "Key Symbols".

The symbols, close to 100 of them, are taken from cultures and languages all over the world. They are contemporary in felling no matter how old the culture they come from. Ms Hammond has shown them all done is classic Continental Stitch needlepoint. This most clearly shows the symbols.

There are no graphs or instructions in this book, I can see that most of these would be quite easy to graph yourself or even stitch "freehand".

The meaning of each symbol, the colors chosen for it and the actual size of the finished piece are given

There is a section in the center of the book showing all the design stitched in full color. The rest of the many pictures in the book are B&W.

Published in 1973 by Simon and Schuster, this is a large hardcover book with 128 pages.

This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket is not quite very good, but better then just good. I have taped it in a few places and the edges are slightly bent, in front.

The book inside is very good, the spine is tight.

Needlepoint by Design: Variations on Chinese Themes by Maggie Lane

Maggie Lane is a very well known name in Needlepoint. As I list these books for sale I see her name over & over again, In thank you's, acknowledgments, and for creating graphs. Needlepoint BY Design has 24 Variations on Chinese Design adapted for Needlepoint.

This is another book that is becoming hard to find

The graphs and directions in this book and very detailed and clear. According to the dust jacket, even a beginner could stitch these designs and I think that is true.

The book is mostly done in black & white with 2 sections of full colors pictures, each design is represented in a color picture.

The chapters give you a complete picture of the book. Introduction, materials, stitches, starting to work, working and finishing plus notes on color.

Maggie Lane was born in China to Missionary parents. They returned to the USA just before Pearl Harbor. She has brought her love of Chinese desing to this book, the designs really are good and not run-of-the mill.

Here's an interesting bit of biographical info, Mrs lane is married to a New York State Supreme Court Judge.

It was published in 1979 by Charles Scribner's Sons in New York

Needlepoint by Design is in very good condition. The dust jacket is worn and has bends and tears, which I have taped up but the book inside is very good. The only flaw I can find is that the spine is not as tight as I might like it. There are no loose or missing pages but it is not as good as it should be.

The Glorafilia Needlepoint Collection by Jennifer Berman & Carole Lazarus

This is the first in the series of Glorafilia Needlepoint books, it was published in 1997.

I was not sure, at first, what made Glorafilia Needlepoint different but after skimming these books I think it was the use of "special" stitches back when almost no one was using them plus mixing Long & Short Stitch with the traditional needlepoint Continental or Basketweave Stitches.

At any rate, the effects are gorgeous.

Each of the projects in the book has detailed instructions, color charts & a full color photographs. The projects can be approached at the beginner level or a more experienced stitcher level of expertise.

In the back of the book is a set of Glorafilia "Stitch Cards".

The Glorafilia Needlepoint Collection is a hardcover book published in 1997 by David & Charles Craft Books in the UK. It has 190 pages.

The Glorafilia Needlepoint Collection is in very good condition. The hardcover book itself is in excellent condition. The dust jacket is somewhat worn at the edges with no real defects.

The pages inside are very good. The spine is good. There are places where it is not tight but it is far from being loose or dropping pages.

*Gift Quality* Needlepoint Samplers by Felicity Lewis

Needlepoint Samplers is an unusual book and quite hard-to-find. Samplers for Needlepoint is not a subject that has been written about much and this book does it very well.

Stitched samplers were one of the most popular forms of needlework from the 17th century to the end of the 19th century. Indeed, they are still being stitched today. Most of what you see are Embroidered or Cross Stitch Samplers on cloth. Needlepoint Samplers are rare.

The author traces the development of Needlepoint Samplers as well as Samplers in general from their earliest days using pictures of beautifully worked Samplers from museums all over the world.

There are 16 original Sampler designs, based on traditional motifs. They can be stitched in either Needlepoint or Cross Stitch. Each design has clear directions, a graph and color chart as well as a full color picture of the finished canvas.

Needlepoint Samplers is a hardcover book, it was published in by Cassell Ltd in London in 1981. It has 96 pages.

This book is in very good, almost perfect condition.

Glorafilia: The Venice Collection by Carole Lazarus & Jennifer Berman

This is an earlier Glorafilia book, published in 1991. The Venice Collection designs are more classic than some of the other books, more with "that feeling", if you know what I mean.

The book is full of gorgeous pictures of both the needlepoint designs and of Venice. There is section on Venetian Textiles, again with many beautiful pictures. Clearly these needlepoint designs are inspired by some of these textiles.

Glorafilia Stitching is a combination of some decorative stitches and Crewel Embroidery techniques along with Continental, Basketweave or Long & Short Needlepoint stitches. The effect is unique.

The authors had this idea before Decorative Stitching was much done.

Glorafilia: The Venice Collection has 24 original designs. Each has a full color chart and complete directions.

There is a section on Finishing, very good stitch samples, showing how each stitch is "built" in a photograph, not a drawing and a section of Trace Patterns.

A large matte cover paperbound book published in 1991 Conran Octopus Publishing in the UK.. It has 160 pages.

The book is in very good condition. The heavy paper cover is somewhat scratched and the edges are a little ragged but the pages inside are wonderful, in very good condition.

If the cover was a little better, this book would be Gift Quality

Needlepoint Rugs by Hope Hanley

Hope Hanley may be the best known, most "universal" name in Needlepoint Books. Her publications cover so many subjects. This book, however, is one I had not heard of or seen before.

According to Ms. Hanley's preface to the book:
'The outline of the book progresses along the same line of thinking that you will follow in planning and making your rug. It starts with design ideas and then attention is focused on the kinds of wools and canvas that are available. Various stitches suitable for rugs come next. The different methods and mediums for applying the design to the canvas follow. After that come chapters on joining the peices of the rug, blocking it and the finishing touches".

That is an exact quote, I could not have said it any better.

The book is mostly in B & W but there are 8 pages of color pictures spread out in the book. They show the finished rugs. The stitch graphs are very clear and as always, Hope Hanley's directions and instructions are easy to follow.

My Needlepoint Book Bibliography gives this book a C for difficulty (with A being easiest and D hardest) so this book is not for beginners but in thumbing through it I don't see anything here that I could not do (and I am not that great a stitcher).

This is a "novel size" hard cover book. Published in 1971 by Charles Scribner's Sons. It has 114 pages.

The book is in good condition. The dust jacket is good with edge wear that I have taped up to keep it from crumbling more.

The book is good inside, the pages are slightly yellowed by age but otherwise clean. The spine is good, not the best I ever saw but not loose either. There is no foxing or yellowing. The spine is not the tightest I have ever seen but it is solid with no loose pages.

This has become a rare book.

Glorafilia: The Miniature Needlepoint Collection by Jennifer Berman & Carole Lazarus

Another wonderful Glorafilia Needlepoint book, this one is not as well known as the others. The subtitle reads:
Over 16 Exquisitely Small and Easy-to-Make Projects.

Have you noticed ALL these books claim "over <some number> of projects"? There are always the exact number of projects claimed, never more but almost all the books say it that way. I have no idea why.

This is a lovely small book with small Glorafilia designs in it. The projects, ranges from a picture of Teddy Bears , a Teapot pin cushion, a jewelry roll, 2 Staffordshire Dogs, various small cushions etc.

As always, all the pictures, charts & color keys are in full color. The directions are clear and complete.

Published by Crown Publishers in 1994. The Miniatures Collection is a hard cover book with 96 pages.

Glorafilia The Miniature Needlepoint Collection is in very good conditon. The dust jacket is intact and only a little worn at the edges. The book inside is excellent and the spine is tight.

Only the wear at the edges of the dust jacket prevents this from being a Gift Quality book.

The Margaret Boyles Book of NeedleArt

A different sort of book from Margaret Boyles. Most of her books are more Needlepoint or Bargello Needlepoint reference books or workbooks.

This book has designs to stitch and they cover a large range of types of needlepoint and stitchery. There are canvas work needlepoint designs, a number of Bargello Needlepoint designs, there are some designs done on linen and some frankly crewel work designs.

Of course, all are done with Margaret Boyles' excellent instruction and clear graphs and diagramming. She really is a Master Teacher.

This is a larger hardcover book with 160 pages. It was published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovitch in 1978.

The Margaret Boyles Book of Needleart has become very hard-to-find and cost quite a bit more to buy now. I suppose this is bound to happen with these great older books.

This book does not have a dust cover. I am sure it had one once, but not now. The book is in very good condition except for some wear & slight dings at the corners of the cover. Someone has written a price in pencil on the inside front cover and the letter P n the inside back cover.

I found 1 (not an area, just 1 tiny spot) spot of foxing on the inside front cover. I checked the book carefully and see no more of it anywhere.

The pages inside are very good and the binding is tight.

Floral Needlepoint by Melinda Coss

Melinda Coss is the author of this absolutely beautiful book of Floral Designs to Needlepoint. She is also the author of the wonderful Bloomsbury Needlepoint Book, which features the art and needlepoint designs of the turn of the century Art & Crafts Movement, many of whom did needlepoint.

The designs and the color used here are breathtaking. Ms Coss gives you pictures of the finished stitched projects in nice settings, a painted picture of the flower, There are very good full color graphs and complete instructions for each project.

The book has 20 projects as well as a chapter on techniques.

Floral Needlepoint is a glossy cover paperbound book. It was published by Anya Publishers, a division of Sterling Publishing in London in 1991. This book really is a class act.

Floral Needlepoint is in very good condition. The pages are white and unmarked. The spine tight, it does not look like it has been opened very much. The dust jacket is good too, just some bending at the edges.

Beth Russell's Traditional Needlepoint

This Beth Russell book is a rare and hard-to-find book. This one is in very good despite being a former library book. It has all the "library book' markings, it is from The Tippecanoe County Public Library in Layfayette, Indiana.

Beth Russell's books are always lovely, very well done with all color pictures and graphs.

There is a extensive introduction with a very beautifully staged picture of Ms. Russell working. Then the book discusses the Arts & Crafts Movement.

There are 16 projects, all with pictures, complete and detailed graphs, color use guides with the colors numbers for DMC Floss, Appleton Wool, Paternayan Wool, as used in the project.

The book then has a chapter on Basic Techniques, Where To Buy Kits and Materials, Places to Visit and a Bibliography.

The Places to Visit list is very interesting. One list is places in the USA and the much longer list is places in the UK.

Beth Russell's Traditional Needlepoint is a hardbound book, it was published in 1992 by Reader's Digest Association.

This is a former library book, it is in good condition outside. There are marks from the tape they used to hold the plastic cover on to the book with on the hard cover.

The dust jacket is good, just a bit bent at the edges. The plastic overjacket protected it.

There is the library card holder on the front inside cover page with a bar code inventory stitcker next to it.

The inside pages are very good and the spine is tight.

Inspiring Designs for Needlepoint by Clare Muzzatti

This is not a long book, more then a booklet but at only 64 pages not quite a full book.

Quoting from the back cover "Learn how to make beautiful Needlepoint creations for framing and display on the wall using canvas, wool and silk threads and no more then 5 simple stitches.

Inspiring Designs for Needlepoint includes all you need to know in order to create and make your own one-of-a-kind original designs" (there is a typo, it says one-off original designs).

There are lovely designs in this book, a few of them very creative but in no way is this book suitable for beginners. Each design has rudimentary directions, a materials list, a template of the design and a picture of the completed project. All the pictures and diagrams for the designs are in full color.

There are some nice ideas in here, they might indeed inspire you.

Published in Australia by Kangaroo Press in 2005. Kangaroo Press is a division of Simon & Schuster. It is a glossy cover paperbound book with 64 pages.

Inspiring Designs for Needlepoint is in very good condition. The only flaw is the bottom right hand corner of the cover looks like it was once bent up. It sits flat now. The pages are very good and the spine looks like the book was hardly ever opened.

Designs for Needlepoint and Latch Hook Rugs by Dorothy Kaestner

Dorothy Kaestner is, of course, famous for her wonderful Bargello Needlepoint books, Needlepoint Bargello, Bargello Antics & 4 Way Bargello, all of which I carry here on NewNeedlepoint in my rare Bargello Books category.

I was pleased and surprised to find this rug book by Mrs. Kaestner. I did not know it existed and it is indeed rare. There is a wonderful cover picture of her stitching on a very large, very beautiful rug.

On the back of the dust jacket is a gorgeous Bargello & Needlepoint rug done in shades of blue.

What can I tell you? Dorothy Kaestner is a Master Teacher, this book contains 25 designs for rugs which can be made either in Needlepoint or Latch Hook.

They are in various sizes, ranging from the long runner (63" X 105") shown on the cover to to tiny doll house rugs to larger rugs in oblong, square, octagonal or round.

The design graphs are excellent, full size. The bigger ones take up more then 1 page but you can easily photocopy them and put them together. The graphs & rug pictures for each design are in black & white however, each rug is shown in full color in the front of the book.

There are also design elements templates at the back of the book.

Designs for Needlepoint and Latch Hook Rugs is not a beginner's book. A experienced stitcher will have no trouble using these patterns.

Published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1978, this is a large hardcover book with 177 pages. As always, photographs by George Kaestner.

This book is in good condition but it has some issues. The dust jacket is pretty good, surprisingly, but the pages are somewhat yellowed by age.

There is a some foxing on the page edges only. Usually I would not list a book this way but there is not that much foxing, really and this is a very rare book.

The spine is tight and otherwise the condition is good.

*Gift Quality* The Beatrix Potter Needlepoint Book by Pat Menchini

This is the 3rd copy of this wonderful needlepoint book I have listed here, so far. This is the English version of the book so there are a few differences. The cover is different from the second one but it is the same as the 1st one. Other then that, it is the same book.

Anybody who has seem the marvelous movie, Miss Potter, knows that Beatrix was engaged to Mr Warnes before his early and tragic death. I think it is interesting that these books, all these years later are still being published under the direction of Frederick Warnes for the Penguin Group. This feels right to me, I like it.

This book is in excellent, gift quality condition. It looks as if it was barely opened or read. There is no dust jacket with this one, as there wasn't with the first one that had this same cover. it is possible that only the special edition sold at Miss Potter's home, Hilltop, had the dust jacket as well as the different cover

As well as Beatrix Potter's well known paintings, used in her books, the author of this book had access to some of her little known work. Some it still unpublished.

As well as a writer of her lovely books, Beatrix Potter was a talented artist. Her paintings are well executed and gently humorous.

Each Needlepoint design in this book shows the design stitched and finished, the original drawing it was based on, an expanded, large full-color graph of the pattern and a color list, by number as well as directions.

The threads used for these projects varies, mostly the wools preferred by British designers but also some like Twilley Lystra Stranded Cotton etc. I found some Anchor Cottons too. I think it will be easy to adapt them to other threads and yarns.

In addition to these charming needlepoint designs there are 2 knitting projects in the book and an embroidery project, as well. There is an extensive section on techniques and stitches and well as all the relevant information needed. This book really is very well done, a class act.

The Beatrix Potter Needlepoint Book was published by Penguin Books in association with Fredrick Warne in London in 1990. This is a very lovely book.

The book is hardcover and in excellent condition, as you can see from my pictures.

*Gift Quality* Beth Russell's William Morris Needlepoint

Beth Russell has become an authority on Arts & Crafts Movement Needlepoint designs. This is a handsome book, beautifully mounted and photographed. This seems to be a very hard-to-find book and a used copy in this condition might be relatively rare. It does not look like this book has been opened or read.

The book has 22 needlepoint charts based on original William Morris designs. They are really beautiful needlepoints but I have to say (in the service of honesty) I would not want to have to follow any of her stitching graphs. Yes, they are good sized, yes, they are in full color but they are so very intricate I can already feel a headache starting.

If you love this exacting stitching or want an absolutely gorgeous needlepoint picture book, this is the perfect book.

The book is indeed in perfect condition, is is hard bound and was published by Crown Publishers in 1995.

Lisbeth Perrone's Folk Art in Needlepoint & Cross-Stitch

This book by prolific needlepoint author, Lisabeth Perrone is based on a years work at the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. the designs are from Folk Art traditions in Europe, Asia, The Americas and Africa.

Each design has directions and easy to read charts using 3 or 4 colors, not just black & white and symbols showing the color placements. There are many color pictures throughout the book. All graphs & directions are easily adaptable to either needlepoint or cross-stitch. The designs are for a more experienced Stitcher. My bibliography gives this book a D (for experienced stitcher) rating

This is a large size hardcover book. Published by Random House in 1978. It has 96 pages.

Folk Art in Needlepoint is in very good condition. The dust jacket was a mess, all torn and awful so I tossed it.

The book inside is very good, clean covers & pages, tight spine. This is often the case, a good book in a bad dust jacket. I try to save them but sometimes there is no point.

Martin Leman's Needlepoint Cats by Martin Leman & Jill Lehman

These are wonderful cats. The Needlepoint Designs are by Jill Leman from paintings by Martin Leman, her father. Jill Leman is an extraordinary needlepointer.

There is a close up of one of the stitched cats on the title page. The stitching is Tent Stitch and Basketweave Stitch (which still have their places in the needlepoint world, it is not all decorative stitches...yet).

Her stitching is perfect, her tension is perfect.

The book has a Before You Start Chapter. Then it goes into the designs, there are 11 original designs in the book plus a great needlepoint cross stitch sampler with cats as the last project.

Each design is shown as the painting by Martin Leman and the finished stitched canvas. There are complete directions and yarn amounts listed. It would be easy to use floss instead.

Each cat's layout is shown either in a line drawing for transfer or with a full color graph. There are 4 cat designs with line drawing and 9 with graphs.

OK, I love this book but as you may know, I love cats.

This is a glossy hardcover book with 56 pages. It was published by Guild Publishing, a division of Pelham Books in 1990.
Martin Leman's Needlepoint Cats is in very good condition. It does not have a dust jacket, I am not sure it ever had one.

It is almost gift quality, the glossy cover is just a little scratched and beat at the corners, otherwise it is excellent.

Needlepoint Designs from Amish Quilts by Laura S. Gilberg & Barbara B. Buchholz

I love Amish quilts, I love the simplicity of the designs and their amazing use of colors and pattern. I have a few authentic Amish quilts that I not only treasure but that I sleep under as well. I think the best way to enjoy them is to use them.

I was very excited when I saw the name of this book. I think Amish Quilt patterns would translate into exceptional needlepoint designs.

There are 27 designs in this book, drawn from Amish quilts from eastern Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Kansas.

The colors are terrific. The graphs and directions are complete and comprehensive.

The book has a center section with full color pictures of each design. There is also a short chapter on the history of the Amish & their quilts.

I sell many copies of this book, as soon as I get one, it sells and I have to look for another.

Needlepoint Designs from Amish Quilts is a large hardcover book with 141 pages. it was published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1977.

This book is in very good condition, almost gift quality. The dust jacket is a little creased at the edges and someone has stamped some numbers & the original price on the inside cover page. They should not have, oh well.

The book inside is excellent.

The picture below shows you how the instructions pages are set up as well as the great condition.

*Gift Quality* Wildlife in Needlepoint by Stella Edwards

This book was published in association with the WWF, The World Wide Fund for Nature. It has 23 needlepoint designs featuring exotic animals, birds and flowers on the endangered species list.

Wildlife in Needlepoint was published in England by Anaya Publishers LTD in 1992. It is a large coffee table size book full of beautiful full color pictures and color guides for each design. What it does not have is Stitch Graphs or Charts showing how to stitch these fine designs.

On the "How to Use This Book" page at the back of the book the author states "it is not difficult to stitch from a picture" and that charts for each design in the book are available "by post" (how British) at the address on page 112. There are no charts included in this book.

I can't promise you they are still available 18 years later, at any rate this is a fine book of very nice wildlife needlepoints.

Wildlife in Needlepoint is in excellent, Gift Quality condition. The books appears to be almost new, the only defect is the impression of a paper clip, set into the paper, on the front inside cover page.

Otherwise excellent.

This book is very difficult to find in this condition, it cost me a lot. Sorry for the price hike.

The author, Stella Edwards is an Embroidery and Needlepoint designer. The book jackets says her Needlepoint Kits are available internationally by mail and at Liberty's of London.

* Gift Quality* Glorafilia: The Ultimate Needlepoint Collection by Carole Lazarus & Jennifer Berman

I have 4 very rare Glorafilia Needlepoint Books sent to me from the collection of a very well-known needlepoint stitch expert. She has owned them since they were new and they are in wonderful condition. This one is *Gift Quality*.

In the late 1980's Carole Lazarus and Jennifer Berman had an idea for variations to Needlepoint Stitchery. At that time most of us were doing "plain stitching" (I still am, I love it) and the only serious mention of Decorative Stitching was in Margaret Boyles 1974 book, Needlepoint Stitchery (yes, I have it for sale in my Rare Needlepoint Reference Books category).

Glorafilia Stitching is a compination of Decorative Stitching, some Crewel Embroidery type work, Long & Short Stitch along with the classic Continental & Basketweave stitches. The effect is amazing.

There are 12 Chapters:
Shells & Butterflies 2 designs
Antique Textiles 1 design
Fabulous Fruit 1 design
Tartan Patterns Christmas decorations
Tribal Designs 2 designs
Victoriana 1 design
Porcelain & Pottery 3 designs
English Floral 2 Designs
Children's Designs 2 designs
This Sporting Life 2 designs
Kilims 2 designs
Design Nostaglia 2 designs

The full color charts and directions for each project are at the back of the book.

Hardcover published in 1996 by Bullfinch Press a division of Little Brown & Co.

This book is a North American First Edition

Glorafilia: The Ultimate Needlepoint Collection is in very, very good condition.

The inside of the book is excellent, as is the hardcover which has one light scratch on it. The dust jacket is also very good with minimal wear at the edges.

A Needlepoint Gallery of Patterns from the Past by Phyllis Kluger

This is a large, coffee table size book. This is a quote from the cover of the book, something of a sub-title "102 designs derived from art of the past from Ancient Egypt and Classical Greece to the Renaissance, the American Folk Tradition and Art Nouveau"

As you can see, the picture used for the dust jacket is very much American Folk Art. I thought that this book was about American Historical Art used for Needlepoint. I was very surprised when I actually received the book.

The dust jacket is in pretty bad condition. This has become something of a joke for me, each one of these books I get to sell (this is the 4th) has this just awful, tattered and ripped up dust jacket with a good to very good book inside. This one is no exception. I have scotch taped the dickens out of the dust jacket to try and stop further damage.

There is one section of color pictures and many of the B & W graphs have highlights in red.

The chapters all begin with:
DESIGNS FROM THE ART OF THE
MINOANS
ANCIENT EGYPT
ANCIENT NEAR EAST
GREECE AND ROME
BYZANTINE EMPIRE
THE MIDDLE AGES
ISLAM
THE RENAISSANCE
17TH-19TH CENTURY EUROPE
AMERICAN FOLK ART

Each chapter has several designs and graphs as well as history and background for the place and era.

A Needlepoint Gallery of Patterns from the Past is a hardcover book, it was published in 1975 by Alfred A. Knopf. It really does seem to be a well researched and interesting book. All of the designs (as far as I can tell) are shown as completed needlepoint canvases, in B & W and in full color in that section.

Decorative Needlepoint: Tapestry & Beadwork by Julia Hickman

This is a lovely large & glossy book full of needlepoint projects along with hints how to use beadwork to embellish the designs.

To quote the dust jacket blurb " 25 needlepoint projects of original designs including simple repeat patterns, beadwork projects and a range of samplers."

"Each of the 25 projects comes complete with an introduction, a detailed materials list, yarn & bead specifications. Simple step-by-step instructions, beautiful color photos of completed projects (with close-ups to details) and easy to follow stitching charts."

They said it so well, I did not think I could say it any better. This book is loaded with full color pictures and the charts are in full color as well making color placement easy.

Published by Reader's Digest Books in 1993. Decorative Needlepoint is a hardcover book with 128 pages.

This book is in remarkable condition. There is one 1/8 inch tear on one of the upper corners of the dust jacket but that is all. The spine is tight and the pages inside are perfect.

A Passion for Needlepoint by Hayat Palumbo

The name of this book got me. I did not need to know anything else. I bought it. I understand a passion for needlepoint.

This is a beautiful large size coffee table type book, it is published by Rizzoli who also publishes some of the more sumptious art and design books out there.

This is not a book of charts and directions, it is pictures. Amazing and wonderful pictures of needlepoint. All kinds of needlepoint. I really want to say "wow" but that is not proper book reviewing, is it?

Published in 1991 the book is in very good condition. It would be Gift Quality if the dust jacket were not a little bent and frayed at the edges....still it is a fine book.

American Patchwork Designs in Needlepoint by Melanie Tacon

40 needlepoint projects, all based on traditional Patchwork Patterns. None of these designs is intricate or difficult, making this the perfect book for a stitcher relatively new to needlepoint or even a biginner.

I always love graphic based needlepoint, myself and living here in Lancaster County, PA which is the heart of Amish (and Mennonite) Country, I have come to appreciate pieced quilts more.

American Patchwork Designs in Needlepoint has some background information on each design and the arduous lives of the settlers who created them.

Each design has full directions including possible variations. The charts are in full color and each design has a stitched sample of how it will look.

The back of the book has a large *How To Do It* section with all the extra details and finishing info you need.

This a glossy paperbound book by The Guild of Master Craftsmen Publications in East Sussex, England. Published in 1998 it has 150 pages.

This is a very rare book in the USA.

This book is in very good condition. There are a few surface scratches on the glossy cover and the back cover is slightly mottled but over all the pages are perfect and the spine does not look like this book was opened much, it too is perfect.

Glorafilia: The Impressionists in Needlepoint by Carole Lazarus & Jennifer Berman

This series of wonderful Glorafilia book, in great condition, was sold to me by a famous internet needlepointer. I was thrilled to get them.

I was unsure what Glorafilia was but after reading these books I think it boils down to some unusual and decorative stitches 9which were hardly used back in the 1990's when these books were published), Log & Short Stitch and traditional Continental or Basketweave stitch.

The end effect is gorgeous and very well suited to Impressionists Art.

This handsome book has original needlepoint designs using the art of Monet, Cezanne, Degas, Van Gogh, Morisot, Renior, Pisarro and Cassat. (no Picasso, I am not sure I want to see his cubist period in needlepoint).

Each of the 21 projects in this book has an introductory text, photographs that clearly show the stitchery, a full color charted design, detailed instructions and a reproduction of the painting

This is a large hardcover book published in 1993 by Crown Publishers in New York. The book has 160 pages.

Glorafilia: The Impressionists in Needlepoint is in very good condition. I would call it Gift Quality except that the dust jacker is a bit worn at the edges & corners, due to it's age. Overall the condition is excellent.

American Country Needlepoint by Jim Williams

I had not seen this book before and I have never heard or read anything about it but I was attracted by the name, so I bought it, sight unseen.

I am very pleasantly surprised. The designs are "country" but there are no duckies and few kitsch designs here.

There is a chapter called Country Animals. Itt has 2 different but handsome roosters, a fine sitting hen, a baby chick (maybe I spoke too soon about duckies) rabbits in clover, a rainbow trout, birds nest and of course a sleeping cat.

Each design is given 3 pages, for complete directions, a color key and a full size full color graph.

The rest of the Chapters are:
Garden Fruits and Vegetables with some unusual ideas like a slice of watermelon shaded pillow and wait until you see the Indian Corn.

Favorite Flowers, which includes a sampler rug. Each letter is graphed with it's own flower.

There are a number of rug designs here, one interesting rug combines needlepoint with crochet.

Published by Taunton Press in 1997, this is a first printing edition of the book. It is a large glossy cover paperbound book with 103 pages. It is filled with pictures, all of them in color.

American Country Needlepoint is in very good condition. There is a tiny fold on the upper right hand corner of the cover but other then that, it is fine. No marks or foxing. The book has clearly been opened and read but the spine is good and tight.

This is a rare book, it was hard (and expensive) to get.

The Erhman Needlepoint Book by Hugh Erhman

This Hugh Erhman book was published in in 1995. The subtitle is: Including designs by Kaffe Fassett, Candance Bahouth and Elian McReady.

This is the high quality, fine design needlepoint we have all come to expect from Erhman Needlepoint.

The are 25 projects divided into 5 chapters:
Textiles
The Sea
New Florals
A Lighter Touch
Old Florals

The only chapter which does not immediately explain itself is the A Lighter Touch chapter. These designs are, to quote Hugh Erhman, humorous or whimsical. Something different from the "Classic" needlepoint. which Erhman is known for.

Published in 1995 by David & Charles Publishers in Devon, England, this is the UK edition. It is a coffee table size hard cover book with 143 pages.

As well as the chapters as noted there are the usuals, Techniques, Conversion Chart, Suppliers, and an Index.

This book is in excellent condition. except for some light r5aggedy edges to the dust cover at the top, The Erhman Needlepoint book would be considered Gift Quality. The pages are excellent and the spine is tight.

American Needlework 1776/1976 by Leslie Tillett

This looks to be an amazing book, the subtitle is "Needlepoint and Crewel Patterns Adapted from Historic American Images". It also has a foreword by Rose Kennedy (yes, that Rose Kennedy).

The designs and charts are based on early American pictures, styles and icons. There is a color picture of each design completed and complete instructions included materials needed and a very readable chart for each.

I think the best way to describe this book is to list the patterns:
An Alphabet Sampler
General Washington and his Ledy (not a typo)
Martha Washington's Needlepoint
Martha Washington's Ballgown
Bicentennial Medallion 1776-1976
Do Not Tread On Me
George Washington Driving the Chariot of State
Whale Paisley ( I had to look at that)
Benjamin Franklin Bouquet
Tea Chop (not a typo)
Patchwork Quilt
John Hewson Bouquet
Confederate Flag
Crazy Horse and General Custer
Heart Flag
The Spirit of '78
Stenciled Fruit
Shaker Tree of Life
Washday
Rose Kennedy's Piano Bench Cover
American Rose
The Sailor's Farewell
Molley Russell Sampler
The Boston Tea Party
United We Stand
Clementine Bouquet
Mules in the Pasture
Eagles All Over

As well as basic instructions, tips and stitches.

Leslie Tillett has a long history as designer/colorist/author/lecturer. He designed what was, at the time, the largest piece of needlwork in America, a huge 4-Way Bargello hanging.

He was asked by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to add needlework to the The Design Works of Bedford-Stuyvesant in New York.

Published by the New York Graphic Society in Boston in 1975. This is a hard cover book with 144 pages.

American Needlework is in very good condition, even considering it's age. It looks like the last few pages were damp once, they are a bit crinkled, otherwise the inside is great with a tight spine. The book is inside of a clear plastic overcover. It does seems as if this has protected the dust cover.

Needlepoint From America's Great Quilt Designs by Mary Kay David & Helen Giammattei

I have wanted this book for a long time now. I love American Quilt design and think it is a perfect match with Needlepoint. This book confirms that and more.

The book has 50 Quilt Designs charted for needlepoint. The diagrams are large, stitch by stitch and very easy to follow. There is a color picture of each project, stitched and easy to follow instructions.

Most of the pictures and the charts are in B & W but I wanted to show you some of the color pictures. They are wonderful

My bibliography calls this book a D (with A easy and D the hardest), for experienced and advanced stitchers but I disagree. I think these designs & graphs can be stitch by anyone familiar with needlepoint and the basic stitches. No beginners perhaps but I do not find these that difficult (and I am only an OK stitcher).

The is a large hardcover book published by Workman Publishing Company, New York in 1974. it is 170 pages.

Needlepoint From America's Great Quilt Designs is in very good condition. There is no dust jacket but the hard cover is good and the pages inside are very good with a good binding

*Gift Quality* Celtic Needlepoint by Alice Starmore

Celtic Needlepoint patterns for needlepoint is a new area of needlepoint design to me. It is a wonderful surprise. The patterns use wonderful bright colors and imaginative and unusual designs.

This is a handsome and unusual book. There are 18 designs, they are grouped by the type of design or motif.
Spiral Patterns
Knotwork Patterns
Bird and Tree Patterns
Animal Patterns.

Alice Starmore, herself descended from the Celts, has used the Book of Kells as well as the art and history of Celtic culture.

The book has a further conversion chart in the back of the book as well as a section on needlepoint technique

Each design has a full color picture of the designed stitched and finished as well as a full color chart. There are thread and color lists using Appleton or Paternayan Wools.

Any design which specifies Appleton Wool includes a list to substitute Paternayan Wools.

Each chapter begins with a 2 page full color landscape picture. The Introduction is a brief summery of Celtic art.

The book is hard cover and in fine condition, which is better then very good. It would be gift quality except the back of the dust jacket shows a little wear.

The pages are perfect and the binding is tight. I do not think this book has been opened much.

More Needlepoint From America's Great Quilt Designers by M K Davis & H Giammattei

This is the follow up to their excellent book "Needlepoint from America's Great Quilt Designers".

This book is more of the same, in the best possible way. There are wonderful quilt patterns graphed for needlepoint. Most of the pictures, Illustrations and graphs are in B & W but there is a section of color pictures showing each design stitched.

I think, maybe, the designs are a bit more complex than in the first book, but that could just be me. At any rate, they are great.

More Needlepoint from America's Great Quilt Designers has 69 designs in 5 categories.
PIECED QUILTS
AMISH QUILTS
COVERLETS
SAMPLERS
BELTS & BORDERS

Published by Workman Publishing Co, in 1997. This is a hard cover book with 208 pages.

This book is in very good condition. There is no dust jacket but the hard cover is good and the pages inside are very good. There is a slight bit of yellowing, due to age, at the edges of the pages. The binding is very good.

Texture and Color in Needlepoint by Michele Weal

This is the second book I ever sold on NewNeedlepoint.com. I have no idea why it took me so long to re-order it.

Texture and Color in Needlepoint is a handsome book, full of pictures and drawings. It is not a surprise that many of both the pictures and the drawings are in color. It was published in 1975 by Harper & Row in NewYork and in Canada at the same time by Fitzhenry & Whiteside LTD.

The author studied painting at the Art Students League and at Sarah Lawrence where she majored in painting. She has always been a needleworker and since 1969 she has been a professional Needlepoint designer.

This is a large book, for intermediate and advanced needlepointers. The book has unusual and artistic needlepoint designs, it takes needlepoint into the "art world" (not my words, I am paraphrasing the dust jacket ).

This book contains step-by step directions for the designs, beginning with a full color picture. Each design has clear supporting illustrations which show how you canvas should appear after each step.

Obviously, the viewpoint here is adding texture to needlepoint. This is done in a variety of ways using decorative stitches (which were rare back then) and off the beaten track thread choices (also not well known then). The designs and the colors shown in this book from 1975 do not appear to be terribly dated, even now.

There is a bibliography and an index but I would not travel a long way to visit any of the Needlepoint Shops on her list (yes, that is me being funny).

The book is in very good condition. The pages are very slightly yellowed with age and the dust jacket is a little "frayed" at the edges but these are minor. There is a small date written on the inside front cover.

A Gardener's Book of Needlepoint by Bodi, Merrill & di Montezemolo

With three authors, the book's info did not fit in my "title space".

It is: A Gardener's Book of Needlepoint by Jack Bodi, Meg Merrill & Catherine di Montezemolo.

Meg Merrill's name is the most familiar, she is the co-author of Nature in Needlepoint with Eva Brent.

This is a wonderful book, full of garden or flower based designs. In the last few years Kaffe Fassett has done a series of Needlepoint Kits for Erhman Tapestry based on Garden Vegetables, in close-up.

There are a few designs similar to that but that is not the bulk of the book's contents.

There are, in addition to a number of very fine flower and veggie designs, a complete alphabet done in flowers, fruits and veggies. Each "arm" of the letter is 2 inches wide and the graphs are full size, so they could be copied and used as is or adapted. There are a few Bargello based background suggestions in the back of the book, as well.

This is a truly unusual book, if you love both flowers, gardening & needlepoint (as I do) you will love this book.

This is a hardcover book published by Simon and Schuster in 1978. It features a intorduction by C.Z. Guest. a noted gardener.

A Gardener's Book of Needlepoint came without a dust jacket. The book seems to be in very good condition. The only thing I can see unusual is a slight lifting of the books "lining" 1/2 each along each side of the spine, on the front & back inside cover.

The spine, however, is very good. I am probably being a fuss-budget about this (I often am).

The pages inside are very good. the book looks and feels like it was rarely even opened.

Chinese Rugs Designed For Needlepoint by Maggie Lane

Another interesting Needlepoint Book by talented needlepoint writer and teacher Maggie Lane. The Chinese Inspired Rugs shown and graphed in this book are all actually "rug size". They range from (in inches) 40X40, 23 X 49, 28 X 56, 30X70,
43X 60, 36X 59 and more.

There are 10 rug designs, they all have expanded graphs, clear directions and thread color lists. There are sections on everything else you need to know to stitch a needlepoint rug including finishing, which is different from regular needlepoint finishing.

Maggie Lane was raised in China, and you can see how she loves Chinese Art & design.

There are full color pictures of each of the rugs in the center of the book.

Chinese Rugs Designed for Needlepoint is a hardcover book.It was published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1975. It has 100+ pages.

The book is in very good condition. The only flaw I can see is there is some slight darkening of the inside cover pages in both the front and back of the book. It is 1/2 inch on both sides of the spine, which is also very good.

There was no dust jacket with this book. It hardly needs one.

Exotic Textiles in Needlepoint by Stella Knight

At first glance I did not know what this book was about, really. The title "Exotic Textiles in Needlepoint" did not make any sense. Then I read the subtitle " Designs from around the world."

Hidden behind this misleading title is a wonderful book of "world design" for needlepoint by the well-known needlepoint teacher and author, Stella Knight.

The designs are organized by general areas of the world.
5 design from Asia
5 designs from The Middle East
5 design from Europe (3 of the medieval or Elizabethan)
4 designs from Africa
6 designs from North & South America

There is a small section of general stitching information and instruction and a few common stitches shown & graphed.

The designs and all the graphs are in full color, there is a stitched picture of each. These are some very beautiful and unusual designs.

Published Guild of Master Craftsmen in Sussex England in 2003. This is a glossy paperbound book with 118 pages.

This book is not new but it could be, it condition is excellent, brand new and barely every opened (except by me to skim through it).

The Needlepoint Cat by William Halsey Brister

The author is a long time needlepointer and genuine cat-lover. So am I, so it is no surprise that I haver this book for sale here.

The Needlepoint Cat has 24 original designs and patterns for Cat Needlepoint projects. They range in difficulty from beginner level to very detailed designs for advanced stitchers.

Included is information on how to capture your own cat's *essense* by adapating one of the designs to your pets features and colors.

The graphs and color placement drawings in this book are very well done. The instructions are complete and detailed, each cat needlepoint is shown in color, as well. There are thread amounts and suggestions, in short, everything you need to know is covered in this book.

The Needlepoint Cat is a large hardcover book, it has 85 pages. It was published by Van Nostrand Reinhold Co in 1983.

This copy of the Needlepoint Cat is in very good condition. It is a former library book so the book and dust jacket were protected by their plastic sleeve.

There are the usual library book markings, The residue of the terrible tape they use to secure the sleeve on the front and back hard covers outside & inside. The library card on the inside back cover as well as a few "discarded" stamps and a sticker inside the back cover and on the dust jacket at the spine. You would think libraries would have more respect for books than to "clutter" them up this way.

It is from The Dobbs Ferry Public Library in Dobbs Ferry, NY.

Nature in Needlepoint, Designs by Eva Brent & Text by Meg Merrill

This book is in wonderful condition. Almost *gift quality* but not quite. The designs are by Eva Brent who is the author of Oriental Designs in Needlepoint, as well.

This book is for nature and animal lovers showing you how to portray animals in needlepoint. Besides the usual information on materials, supplies, stitches & colors, each animal design is presented in 2 graphs with suggested colors, size & type of canvas.

The patterns are grouped by animal types and each design has a paragraph or two about the animal.

The text is by Meg Merrill. She is a needlepointer, an animal lover and an active member of many conservation organizations.

Nature in Needlepoint is a hardcover book. It was published by Simon and Schuster in 1975.

As I said, the book is in terrific condition. it has clearly been read but not dirtied or abused in any way. It really almost gift quality.

First Edition Glorious Needlepoint by Kaffe Fassett

This is a First Edition of Kaffe Fassett's landmark book on Needlepoint. it was published in 1987 by Clarkson N. Potter/Publishers and distributed by Crown Publishers in New York.

I was interested in Needlepoint when I bought my copy of this book, back when it was first published. I knew Kaffe Fassett's name. My mother is a knitter and I had bought her his previous book Glorious Knits. It is an awesome book.

I think this book, more than any other, got me started doing Needlepoint. While the book does have graphs and instructions for most of the designs shown, it is essentially a beautiful picture book. To me, anyway.

Kaffe Fasset's design ability and color use are unmatched. His work is wonderfully displayed, as well. This is, to overwork the word, a beautiful book. It is a large "coffee table" size.

This is a First Edition of this book, as stated on the back of the title page. The book is in very good condition, not perfect but very good. The dust jacket is a bit bent and worn at the top and the bottom. Other than that, the book is very good inside & out.

Elizabeth Bradley's Needlework Antique Flowers

In her introduction to this book, Elizabeth Bradley writes "This book has been a pleasure to write as it combines two of my major interests and pursuits, needlework and gardening".

There are countless examples of flowers in early or antique needlework, Ms Bradley has carefully charted and given very complete directions to stitch 25 different flowers or floral motifs.

They are grouped by seasons. Spring has 6 designs, Summer has 10, Autumn has 5 designs and Winter has 7. 4 of the Winter 7 are holiday related including an absolutely gorgeous Christmas Rose design (I am a sucker for needlepoint roses).

Each chart gives you thread or wool numbers and amounts needed. The colors are based on the Elizabeth Bradley Line of Wools or DMC Wools. Given that the amounts are listed, it would not be hard to switch to another brand of wool or to cotton flosses. I believe DMC color numbers stay the same for wools or cotton etc.

I don't think I have ever seen Elizabeth Bradley Wools for sale anywhere. There is a source to buy them listed but since the book was published in 1993, who knows?

Needlework Antique Flowers is a very well done book, very complete with an index, bibliography, general lists and information as well as a section on materials & methods.

This is a large 10 X 11 inch paperbound book. it was published in 1993 by Sterling Publishing in New York.

The book is in very good condition. The cover is somewhat worn & scraped at the edges but inside the book is in great condition. The spine is tight and the pages excellent. It does not look like this book was opened very often.

If ordered alone or just with other books, this book will be shipped using USPS Media Mail. If ordered with other items from my web store, it will ship with those items at a (much) faster speed.
