SAMURAI Large Hand Painted Needlepoint Kit

This is a show-stopper. This is a whole body design of a serious & glowering Samurai warrior in movement. The clothes, his face and the body movement here are done very well. This is clearly the work of a very talented & experienced needlepoint artist. This is a very big, wonderful needlepoint canvas. it is a hand Painted original design by Sophia. Sophia used to design canvases for Lee Needle Arts, before Mrs Lee retired (Colonial Needle owns them now). Sophia is now in business for herself and her work is excellent (I also list a beautiful fan canvas by Sophia here on NewNeedlepoint). So, how big is it? The design area measures 27.5 X 22 inches. The entire canvas is 31 X 25.5 inches. It is 14 mesh canvas. There are 19 colors and 2 Metallics colors used in The Samurai. I have assembled this kit using DMC #5 size Perle Cotton Floss & Kreinik #16 size Metallic Braid Thread. This kit uses 43 skeins of DMC and 8 spools of Kreinik Metallic. The colors Sophia choose are wonderful and I have stayed close to them in this kit. The only real change I made is that the background is done in DMC # 677. It is a dark cream color with a hint of yellow. A very Oriental looking background color, I think. The Samurai should be stitched using 1 strand of either the floss or the metallic thread. I have shown just 1 skein or spool of each color used. The whole pile of them is pretty big and would not have shown well in a picture. Derek's American Stars Sunglass Needlepoint Kit for Beginners

Derek is Amanda Lawford's son. Mrs. Lawford is a very well known and successful needlepoint designer. Derek has his own line of needlepoint designs with a tilt to up-and-coming stitchers & beginners. His great designs are affordable and his color use is wonderful. This is not the entire sunglass case kit, this is just the kit to stitch the needlepoint top to a sunglass case, I do not want to mislead anyone here. American Stars Sunglasses Case is an original, hand painted design. The design area measures 6 X 3 inches. The entire canvas is 9.25 X 6.25 inches. It is 18 mesh canvas. Made in the USA Hand Painted Needlepoint Kit

When I saw this canvas at the Baltimore TNNA show, there was no hesitation, I snapped it up. It is a good strong graphic "message" design and the message spoke to me (yes, we buy American cars etc. as much as we can) This is a hand painted, original design needlepoint. I don't know the name of this designer, I bought it from Kirk & Hamilton who represent a number of Needlepoint Designers in the U.K. The design area is 19 X 13.25 inches. The entire canvas measures 23 X 17 inches. It is 14 mesh. Made in the USA is a great design, very well done. Although the design seems, at first, like it might be suitable for a novice stitcher but I don't recommend it. There is quite a bit of subtle shading here and it is important to the design. I have assembled this kit using DMC #5 size Perle Cotton Floss. Cotton Floss stitches up with very crisp edges which will be perfect for this words on the canvas and I have a large inventory of colors which made the shading colors much easier (shading can be tricky if you do not have the right colors & intensities). There are 10 colors in this design and 21 skeins of floss. This canvas should be stitched using 1 strand of floss. I have made 1 color change since I photographed the threads. When I looked at the colors today, the darkest red did not look right to me, too much magenta, so the dark red is now a more "red" shade. Amish Farm & Quilts Needlepoint Canvas

I live in Lancaster County, PA among many Amish & Mennonite families. When I saw this wonderful hand painted canvas from Danji Design I had to buy it. I am still going back & forth about should I keep it and stitch it myself. This is a beautiful part of the country, very rural. The small towns often have great names (Intercourse etc) and the Amish & Mennonite farmers & business people work hard to keep this county nice. It is a wonderful sight to see a young Amish man standing on his plow (they all stand) which is being pulled by a team of 6, 8 or more horses or mules. Anyway, I am digressing. The Amish Farm & Quilts original design needlepoint canvas shows three typical Amish design quilts hung up on a line in front of the barn. This is not an uncommon sight, you see places like this often when driving and I have stopped to look at some amazing quilts, many times (Ok, I have bought 1 or 2). Strawberry Cupcake Hand Painted Needlepoint Kit

This is another of those designs I just had to have, no doubts at all. The cupcake looks delicious (now I want a cupcake). I love the use & shading of the 3 reds & the 3 pinks. I do not know who the designer is, Strawberry Cupcake is marketed by Kirk & Hamilton, who represent many U.K. needlepoint designers. I do know this is an original design, hand painted needlepoint. The design area measures 9.25 X 9.25. The Entire canvas is 13.25 X 13.25, a perfect square. This would make a wonderful pillow. Strawberry Cupcake is 14 mesh. I am listing this as a kit only. Her designs, however, are still charming and current. This canvas is only available as a kit using DMC #5 Perle Cotton Floss. The letter's fonts are only duplicated for 3 of them, the rest are all one of a kind. There are 4 shades of rose & pink and 2 of purple used. The DMC #5 Perle Cotton Floss for this kit has a slight sheen when stitched. It will be lovely. I picked #746, moonlight white, for the background. The Reds are a true deep rich red and a lighter shade they call "Christmas Red". I used a medium Raspberry pink and a lighter pink a few shades off. The purple is a true Violet Purple, again with a lighter shade of the same color. The background color is the same for both the Pink Sampler and the Blue sampler. The design area is 11.5 X 11.5 inches. The entire canvas measures 15.5 X 15.5 inches. it is 14 mesh. It can be difficult to do complex decorative stitches around lettering. Candy Cane Snowman Ornament Needlepoint Kit

Fenway Park Hand Painted Needlepoint Canvas

Another wonderful Boston Sports original design needlepoint from Melinda McAra. The Boston Red Sox have played at Fenway Park for many years. It is an difficult stadium, in the middle of Kenmore Square in Boston with not nearly enough seats not to mention the Green Monster but we all (all of us Red Sox fans) love it. This hand painted design has it all, including the Citgo sign to the left of the stadium. The city was going to take it down years ago, there is no Citgo company anymore that I know of anyway. Everybody protested and now the Citgo sign is considered a Boston Landmark (and so it is). I know I am blabbering like a Boston native, but I used to live not far from Fenway Park and remember the excitement of game days. I loved the Pink Heart's colors and design the moment I saw it. This is a hand painted needlepoint by Danji Designs. This kit is just right for novice or not too experienced stitchers. More advanced stitchers might like to stitch this as well, using decorative and textured stitches. The design area is 8 X 8 inches. The entire canvas measures 12.5 X 12.5 inches. it is 14 mesh. I have assembled this kit using DMC #5 Perle Cotton Floss. Perle Cotton has a slight sheen when stitched which will suit this design perfectly. Valentine should be stitched using 1 strand of floss. I have kept as close to these wonderful colors as I could, while I have an extensive stock of #5 floss, I could not exactly replicate a few of these shades. It is a wonderful hand painted needlepoint canvas showing the Yankees in play at the New Yankee Stadium in 2009. Oddly enough, this was designed and hand painted by Melinda McAra, a Massachusetts person and another Red Sox fan. She says they sell. She tells me the wife of the Yankee's General Manager bought one of them. That does not help me with my husband. This design is very colorful, using 14 different colors and full of life and movement. There is a border around 3 sides of the canvas that reads New York Yankees on 2 sides and new Yankee Stadium 2009 on the bottom. The design area is 15.5 X 12.5 inches. The entire canvas measures 20 X 17 inches. it is 14 mesh. I have assembled this kit using DMC #5 Perle Cotton Floss. The cotton floss has sharp clear edges, when stitched. it will be perfect for this design which is packed with detail. The design uses 14 colors and 20 skeins of floss. Hand Painted Christmas Tree in the Snow Needlepoint Ornament Kit

This was such a popular needlepoint kit last year that I ordered more and have listed it again. I usually like to have new things to replace the canvases & kits that sell but I really like this design too so.. This is a hand painted original design by Christine Saunders. While it appears to be a simple design, it really is more complex than it looks. There are 9 colors in this design. 11 colors if you count the white and silver Kreinik #12 size Metallic Braid Thread I have included to add the sparkle to the snow. The design area is 4.25 inches across. The entire canvas measures 8 X 8 inches. It is 18 mesh. I have also used the Kreinik Metallic threads for the gold, red and blue ornaments on the tree. #12 Kreinik Metallic is a smaller thread then the usual which is used on the larger mesh canvases. It stitches more easily on the 18 mesh canvas. The same is true of the DMC and Anchor #8 Perle Cotton Floss I have used in this kit. Each ball of #8 floss is equal to 2 skeins of floss, so you will have way more then enough to stitch this. One strand of floss or braid thread should be used. I tried to think of a clever name for this kit but I kept coming back to "Bathing Suit" and that is what it is. This is an adorable hand painted original design needlepoint by Sapna. The polka dot Bathing Suit with it's flower decoration is set in yellow with an outer border design of pink on pink hibiscus flowers. This design can be stitched very simply, by a beginner or can be "gussied up" a lot by a more experienced stitcher. The design area is 6 X 6 inches. The entire canvas measures 10.5 X 10.5 inches. It is 14 mesh. I have changed only only one color in this design, I have toned down the yellow background with a slightly softer shade. The suit has a flower decoration on it in gold with a few lines of detail done in red. I have included a skein of the red but you might not want to use it. It might stand out and dominate the other colors. I would substitute the darker pink or the white for it. The kit is assembled with DMC #5 Perle Cotton floss. Susan Treglown Optical Sphere Needlepoint Kit

This wonderful large canvas is an optical design by Susan Treglown. It has one of her color placement cards attached to it, which I (very messily, I admit..much crossing out) have used to place the colors for the kit for this design. She numbers this canvas as G-523. I don't have any idea how old it is, I bought it for myself years ago, as new. I had trouble finding colors for the color placement card. Susan Treglown often uses sequences of 4 shades in her designs. Not all the colors but enough to make it tricky to kit this canvas. Most designers do a 3 shade color sequence, with 4 a rarity. I have some 4 "runs" in my stock but still...this was a challenge. I am a huge fan of Susan Treglown needlepoint designs. I have 2 more in my own stash, to be stitched when I have more free time (HA). I have one in Progress, it is to be a companion pillow to this one. This is a large 13 mesh canvas, despite it's size it will stitch up quickly. The design area is 15.5 X 15.5 inches. The entire canvas measures 19 X 19. The white canvas area outside the design is barely 2 inches wide on each side and then I hemmed the canvas. In retrospect I should have taped it instead. I think the colors in this design are terrific. They are unexpected, none of your pinks and reds here, the usual colors associated with hearts.
