Needlepoint Trade Secrets by Janet Perry

I suppose I should begin by saying janet Perry is a friend. Still, it is my *job* to accurately describe the books I am selling so...

This is a new book, it is still in current publication however, I wanted to include it in my book offerings. It is, in some way, a unique book. Needlepoint Trade Secrets is a reference guide but not a stitch book, which are generally referred to as "reference books".

This books has ideas, inspiration, organizing tips, information on techniques, threads, materials & stitching. In other words, all that stuff you wish someone had told you when you were new to Needlepoint.

Janet has combined tips from needlepointers and teachers, combined it with her own wide knowledge to make a book you will find helpful, on matter your level of experience.

This is the 2nd Edition of Needlepoint Trade Secrets from 2007. It is self-published by by Napa Needlepoint, 2006.

Since it is a new book, I see no need to show a picture of the inside of the book.

It is a smaller (8.5 X 5.5) Trade Paperback with 117 pages.

More Backgrounds for Needlepoint by June McKnight

The companion book to June McKnight's Decorative Backgrounds for Needlepoint copyrighted in 1992.

This More Backgrounds book is copyrighted 2001.

Some of the background stitches shown in this book take up 2 pages, 1 page for instruction and the 2nd for the graph. Others take just one page so it is difficult to get a stitch count for this book. From the index I estimate there are 64 stitches in this book.

All are graphed and described with Ms McKnight's usual skill and clarity.

This is a small 5 inch X 5.5 inches paperbound book with a metal spiral binding. There is a clear plastic over lay on the cover.

it is self-published by June McKNight with a copyright of 2001.

Decorative Needlepoint:Tapestry & Beadwork by Julia Hickman

This is so confusing. The paperbound edition of this exact same book is called Tapestry and Beadwork. The Hardcover edition is titled Decorative Needlepoint: Tapestry and Beadwork. I have no idea why the difference? In skimming through it, I see no other changes.

This is a lovely large, glossy cover book full of needlepoint projects along with hints how to use beadwork to embellish the designs.

To quote the dust jacket blurb " 25 needlepoint projects of original designs including simple repeat patterns, beadwork projects and a range of samplers."

"Each of the 25 projects comes complete with an introduction, a detailed materials list, yarn & bead specifications. Simple step-by-step instructions, beautiful color photos of completed projects (with close-ups to details) and easy to follow stitching charts."

They said it so well, I did not think I could say it any better. This book is loaded with full color pictures and the charts are in full color as well making color placement easy.

I used to sell this book in my used books categories. I have now found a source for it brand new.

Decorative Needlepoint was first published by David & Charles in 1993 as Tapestry and Beadwork.. Now it is Decorative Needlepoint: Tapestry & Beadwork, a Reader's Digest Book produced by David & Charles. It is a hard cover book with 128 pages.

ISBN: 0-89577-591-3

Dictionary of Canvas Work Stitches by Mary Rhodes

The Dictionary of Canvas Work stitches is an English Needlepoint book, published by B T Batsford LTD, London. There is always a slight difference between English and American needlepoint and there are a quite a few stitches in this book that I am not familiar with. Some I am sure I have not seen before.

The book shows and graphs 250 stitches, with easy to read stitch graphs and pictures for each stitch. This is clearly a needlepoint stitch book for an advanced or experienced stitcher.

This is a paperbound book, first published in 1980, I have no idea how many pages, they are not numbered (that I can find, anyway).

Ms Rhodes trained at the Cambridge School of Art and studied Embroidery part-time at Goldsmith's College School of Art and at Camberwell School of Art.

She has been a teacher and tutor for numerous embroidery courses, mainly with branches of the Embroiderer's Guild in England and with the ILEA Courses for Adult Education.

Of course, needlepoint is often referred to as Canvas Embroidery in the UK.

I have been selling this book as a used book and it has been becoming hard-to-find.

I recently discovered it has been re-printed. This is great news, Mary Rhodes books are excellent and this is one of the most interesting stitch books out there.

The Dictionary of Canvas Work Stitches is still a Batsford Book, but it was & is re-printed in paperbound by Charles Scribners & Sons since 1989

ISBN: 0-7134-3302-7

Selling New Books is very different from selling my used, hard-to-find or rare books. New books have a set retail price and I have to compete in the marketplace.

Tapisserie: The Art of Needlepoint by Hayat Palumbo

Tapisserie is another gorgeous book by Hayat Palumbo. I had never heard of it or even heard it mentioned of referred to when her other book, A Passion for Needlepoint, is spoken of.

I had been selling it used and it was very hard-to-find. Now I have discovered that it has been re-printed and available as a new book.

I am thrilled.

This is not a book of patterns you can follow, with charts and directions. What it is is gorgeous needlepoint & tapestry work. Ideas and inspiration.

The book is divided into chapters:
Slippers
Cushions
Chairs
Stools
Rugs
Emblems & Novelties
Counted Stitch Designs

Each page is bursting (yes, that is the right word) with full color photos of these extraordinary needlepoint. They are mostly shown in room settings. The whole, the style and the effect is spectacular and spectacular is not a word I use lightly.

There is a Scattered Roses all over needlepoint arm chair here I adore. There are examples of needlepoint on antique chairs and a picture of "The Countess at her Tapestry Frame" (not kidding, she is wearing a mini skirt and she is maybe too old for it)

A large coffee table size book, hard bound with 158 pages. Tapisserie was first published in 1991 by Weidenfeld and Nicolson in London.

ISBN: 0-297-83103-8

Holiday Stitches for Needlepoint by June McKnight

Ms. McKnight begins this book with a phrase we has posted as a sign in her studio.
"Until further notice, celebrate everything".

She goes on to say that some of the best needlepoint designers in the industry seem to have taken these words to heart and created wonderful holiday themed needlepoint canvases.

This book is a collection of stitching ideas that evolved in her classroom. So many of her students wanted to stitch something very special for some very special occasion, day or holiday.

Another quote from Ms. McKnight "Here you will find motifs and patterned stitches to celebrate the best moments of life."

My picture of this book makes the cover look like dull gray & white. It is not, it is Silver on white.
This is another of the small, easy to use and carry new paperbound books with a metal spiral binding. There is a clear plastic cover over the cover page. Holiday Stitches for Needlepoint was copyrighted in 2001, the book has 144 pages.

Tips & Techniques for Needlepoint by Susan Sturgeon Roberts

Tips & Techniques for Needlepoint by Master Teacher Susan Sturgeon Roberts was recently dis-continued by my wholesaler. This is a great book and I was sorry it was no longer available.

I contacted the author (Susan) to ask if there was any chance this book (and her other book, The Thread, canvas & Needle Handbook) might be available again and she had some copies of each in stock.

This is another handy little book of advice by the well-known needlepoint writer and teacher Susan Sturgeon Roberts. She even has a EGA Master Craftsman designation (I am impressed)

This book is in a question and answer format. The questions are ones I have wanted to ask myself, some of them anyway and the answers are very clear and chatty.

She is not "talking down" to us in this book. I want to show you something. I usually do not show a second picture with a new book but I took the small stitched furry animal she has on the cover and enlarged him. This is TECHNIQUE and Ms Roberts has something to teach most of us if she can do this, this well.

<center><img src="images/products/tipsNP2.jpg"></center>

This is a new paperbound book with a plastic spiral binding. It is self published by Susan Sturgeon Roberts in 2008. This is a first Edition, First Printing.

It has 39 pages.

The Thread, Canvas & Needle Handbook for Needlepoint by Susan Sturgeon Roberts

The Thread, Canvas & Needlepoint Handbook by Master Teacher Susan Sturgeon Roberts has been out of print for some time now. This is an interesting and helpful book and I was sorry it was no longer available.

I contacted the author (Susan) to ask if there was any chance this book (and her excellent Tip & Techniques for Needlepoint) might be available again and she had some copies of each in stock.

This is a very handy and informative book with all those little things you wish you knew. It is a reference book with all the details the big glossy needlepoint books assume you know and they do not need to say.

The best way to explain this to you is to list the chapter names, these are mostly 1 or 2 page chapters:
How to use This Chart
3 Stitches per Inch
5 Stitches per Inch
10 Stitches per Inch
12 Stitches per Inch
13 Stitches Per Inch
14 Stitches per Inch
16 Stitches per inch
18 Stitches per Inch
20 Stitches per Inch
22 Stitches per Inch
24 Stitches per Inch
Congress Cloth
7 Stitches per Inch Plastic
14 Stitches per Inch Plastic
Needle Sizes
Canvas Colors
Definitions
Tapestry Wool Coverage
Persian Wool Coverage
Metric Conversions

Whew. The "stitches per inch" chapters tell how how much of any and all flosses or threads you will need, per inch. The list of possible threads is long and seems complete.

This is valuable info, all of it in a 8.5 X 5.5 paperbound book with 41 pages.

This is a new book, it is paperbound with a plastic spiral binding. This is a First Edition book self-published by Susan Sturgeon Roberts, copyright 2007.

Elizabeth Bradley's Needlework Animals

I had not seen this Elizabeth Bradley book, I had no idea it existed. I was surprised to find it had been first published in The USA in 1996.

This edition was re-copyrighted and re-issued in 2008. I am amazed no one knows about it.

This handsome coffee table size hardcover book by Master Needleworker Elizabeth (my title for her, not hers) has 25 Original charted Designs.

Each design is shown painted as a picture, in a full color graph and as a finished stitched piece.

Many of the animal designs have complex backgrounds or settings. They are just wonderful designs. Projects included are:

ANIMAL ATLAS CARPET

ANIMALS OF THE AIR
butterflies
parrot chain
tawny owl

ANIMALS FOUND IN WATER
shell wreath
sperm whale bath mat
mackerel glasses case

ANIMALS ON LAND
fox family rug
carpet python draft stopper
tiger

ANIMAL WORLDS
rockpool
harvest field
moorland
trout stream
river bank
vegetable garden
ivy leaf border

ANIMALS & MAN
marmalade cat
chickens
pointer
pig pillow

ANIMAL ALPHABET
each letter of the alphabet has it's own charted letter & animal design.

This may be a unique book, I know there are animal stitchery books out there but none as fine as this, with this level of excellent designs (I want to stitch the pig pillow & the chickens).

This brand new book was published in 2008 by Trafalgar Square Publishing in North Pomfret, Vermont. This is a large glossy hardcover book with 168 pages.

ISBN # 978-0-9801051-2-4

Left Handed Stitchery by Sally Cowan

With Illustrations by Kurt Loftus. Left Handed Stitching is a very much overlooked subject in needlework. I know of only one other book on the subject, the New York Times Book of Needlepoint for Left Handers and it is so rare it is difficult to find. It is long out of print.

This is a more concise book, aimed at Embroiders and useful to Cross-Stitchers. There are instructions for 45 stitches using 96 drawings.

In the forward the author, Sally Cowan who is also the author of Left Handed Sewing, says that she has gone beyond the basic sewing stitches in her first book to concentrate on Decorative Stitching for left handers.

As the Daughter and Mother of left handers I can tell you that it can be difficult to be different.

Left Handed Stitchery is a medium size glossy paperbound book. It was published by Schiffler Publishing in 1987 and has 61 pages.

This is a brand new book. ISBN #978-0-88740-110-7

Another excellent Amy Bunger DVD from her series "How'd You Do That" , Just Fur Fun!

"Amy shows you how to stitch different needlepoint Fur Ideas including 4 types of Turkey Work, various Encroached Stitches and many more techniques and stitches suitable for Man or Beast."

That is a quote from the DVD's cover, I did not make that Man or Beast joke myself, I promise.

I have not watched this DVD yet but everybody (and their cousin) says that Amy's DVD are very good and very helpful.

Needlepoint Stitches by Susan Higgenson

This is the new Edition of Susan Higgenson's The Book of Needlepoint Stitches, published in England in 1989, which I also have listed here as a used Needlepoint Reference Book.

I am a fan of Susan Higgenson's books and this is another good one plus it is brand spanking new, a very pretty book. The stitches are very clearly shown in all all color photographs, several per stitch, rather than drawn graphs.

The book takes you from the very beginning, how to anchor your first stitch all the way to finishing with Ms Higgenson's clarity and skill.

It is a good book but it is a beginner's or Novice Needlepointer's book. It contains 53 stitches.

This is a glossy paperbound book published by Search Press in England in in 2007. it has 80 pages. ISBN # 1-84448-096-8

Architectural Stitches for Needlepoint by June McKnight

I would not have designed the cover of this book with bright yellow type on a bright white background. It is quite hard to read and was a devil to photograph.
The book's text is nice black type on white paper.

This is another of June McKnight's very useful spiral bound needlepoint stitch books. This book focuses on stitches she considers "Architectural" . it is difficult for me to describe what she means by this. There are so many stitches here.

I think the best way for me to describe this book's contents is to tell you the chapter names:
Foundations
Walls
Masonry
Windows & Doors
Roofs
Fretwork

This is a small book, 5 X 5.5 inches including the spiral binding. It is a brand new paperbound book with 87 pages. It was self-published by June McKnight , copyright 1993.

Tassel Making by Anna Crutchley

I love the look of lush tassels on a needlepoint pillow. It always bothered me that I could not have them match my design and colors exactly and that they cost too much.

I had to wait a long time for this book on how to make tassels. it was backordered forever but finally, here it is. The subtitle of this book is "Revealing the Secrets of how to make the world's most gorgeous fabric decorations"

That works for me.

This is a gorgeous book, all the pictures are full color and the examples are wonderful.

Every project has a materials list, complete and clear directions using lots of color pictures. The results are wonderful (I know I am re-using words).

Many of the tassels made in the book require templates, they are all printed in the back of the book for you to cut out and use. There is also a list of suppliers for the items that may not be readily available where you are.

Tassel Making has 90 pages of Tassel Designs to make. It is a large size, new, heavy paperbound book with a total of 160 pages.

Now that I have looked through this book, I am getting a copy for myself, as well.

Published by Southwater, which is a division of Anness Publishing in the UK. First published in 1996, this is the 2004 re-print edition.

ISBN # 1-84215-299-8

Needlepoint 202 Embellishment of the Painted Canvas by Ruth Dilts

This is Ruth Dilts newest book, Needlepoint 202, a continuation of her Painted Canvas series. This books also credits Joan Lohr who created the graphs.

The cover says this book is "A Guide To 12 Different Techniques with Illustrations for Embellishment of The painted Canvas." and this cover is yellow sparkly instead of flat blue the Needlepoint 101. (useless to know but still...)

Quoting from Ms Dilts introduction: "The intent of this book is to tempt you, the stitcher, to try new stitches, different techniques and a variety of threads, beads, etc. on your canvases. It includes an entire section showing different ways to do beards, mustaches & fur." This could benefit a more experienced stitcher as well as beginners.

She also lists "The Philosophy of Embellishment". This looks like an interesting book. it includes a section of stitches, some of which I have never seen before, in the back of the book..

This is a small brand new paperbound book with a plastic spiral binding. it is published by The Rainbow Press with a copyright of 2007. It has 132 pages.

New Twists on Needlework Embellishment by Suzanne Howren & Beth Robertson

This book is by the same pair who are responsible for the "Stitches For Effect" trilogy of books. They are clearly experienced needlepointers and needlepoint authors.

This book will take you from the very first steps, how to prepare a canvas for embellishment and which kinds of projects are suitable. It discusses the designs and colors that work best, the padding, applique, Couching, altered threads, beads and using found objects.

This book is completely complete (I really like that phrase, sorry to inflict it on you).

If you want to be really impressed, you should read the Bibliography of books they consulted to write this book, all the best of today's needlepointers and designers.

New Twists on Embellishment is a brand new paperbound book with a spiral binding. I am not positive if the spiral binding is metal or heavy plastic but it is sturdy. It was published by Shear Creations LLC in 2007. ISBN # 978-0-9663924-4

Shading & Thread Blending Techniques for Needlepoint by June McKnight

This excellent book by June McKnight is one I have in my own collection. Books that really show you how to do this are relatively rare. I find shading and blending (well) hard to do, myself.

The chapters are:
Precise Thread Blending
Random Thread Blending
Tweeding, Twilling, Twiddling
Shading with Dynamic Threads
Decorative Stitches

I think that covers it all, don't you?

This is another of Ms. McKnights small, 5.5 X 5 inch, books with a plastic spiral binding and a paper cover protected by a clear plastic over-cover in front. It has 93 pages and is self-published by June McKnight. The copyright date on this book is 1994.

Colorful Stitches for Over-Dye Threads by June McKnight

A recent and terrific book by June McKnight. In it she discusses the many types of unusual or over-dyed threads and yarns and how best to use each kind.

This small handy book contains full color graphs of 94 of stitches, stitched with these kinds of threads, so you will see exactly what you result will be. There are 3 pages with links to some of the speciality thread web sites.

One section covers satin stitches, another is upright stitches. A number of the stitches shown here are new to me (but that is not saying much as some of you already know). There is one called Pathways that would make a terrific background stitch and even more terrific on colored canvas.

Colorful Stitches for Over-Dye Threads has each stitch on it's own page. The book has 141 pages total

This is a small, 5.25 X 5.5 inche paperbound book with a clear plastic front over-cover, with a metal spiral binding. It is self-published by June McKnight, with a copyright date of 2010.

Canvas Embellishment The Sequel by Linda Corirossi

The subtitle on the cover of this book says " Colorful Stitches for Needlepoint."

This book, the Sequel to her amazing "Canvas Imbellishment" has been out of print for a long time. It was very recently re-issued and I thought it might be a very valuable Needlepoint Stitch book so I ordered one of each, despite it's high price.

In the Introduction to the first book the author says that the book(s) is/are the result of 15 years of teaching needlepoint. The author goes on to say that in the beginning it was all Continental (tent) stitch and Basketweave.

Then it went to samplers using 12-25 stitches. She goes on to say that finally her students wanted to stitch hand painted canvases with some of the sampler stitches they learned. That is how *Canvas Embellishment* was born (her words).

She explains Canvas Embellishment as using stitches & fibers to add texture, depth and life to a canvas.

You can always tell when you reading an expert's words and this struck me as just that. Plus it was very interesting to me since I came to Needlepoint at the end of what she calls "the sampler period".

The introduction to the sequel goes on to say that there have been so many new variations on Stitches that she had to write this second book.

The Chapters are:
Clothing
Building & Architecture
Flowers & Plants
Trims, Accents & Decorative Stitches
Beards Hair & Fur
Backgrounds

By "clothing: she means "imitate actual fabric in clothing with different textures & patterns".

In the Plants chapter she specializes in stitches that will be perfect (or better) for flowers, leaves, trees, grass, fruits & vegetables.

Buildings etc. is using fubers & textures to create structures on canvas.

The beards etc chapter is new to this book. The author says they are easy to create with stitches & unique fibers.

This book is extraordinary, as is Ms Corirossi's other book. I am so impressed with it (and that does not happen to often, I see so many books) that I am ordering a copy of each for myself.

The book is clearly self-published. I do not see a publication date or ISBN # anywhere.

It is a large spiral bound paper bound book with 118 pages but each page is only printed on one side.

<center><img src="images/products/embellishment2page.jpg"></center>

Canvas Embellishment by Linda Corirossi

The subtitle on the cover of this book says " Exquisite Needlepoint Stitches Made Simple."

It is my understanding that this book and it's sequel have been out of print for a long time. It was very recently re-issued and I thought it might be a very valuable Needlepoint Stitch book so I ordered one of each, despite it's high price.

You can always tell when you reading an expert's words and this struck me as just that. Plus it was very interesting to me since I came to Needlepoint at the end of what she calls "the sampler period".

The Table of Contents is simple:
Clothing

The rest of the chapters are self-explainatory.

I am impressed with this book. it is clearly self published by Linda Corirossi. I can't find a publication date or a ISBN number. Each page is printed on one side of the page. The book has 93 pages and a bibliography.

The book is spiral bound in paper. it is large size but very simple in appearance (one could say "tasteful".

This book has floored me, I think I need a copy of it myself.

Create Your Home in Counted Thread by Mary Jenkins

Below the title on the cover are listed :
Diagonal Stitches
Cross Stitches
Straight Stitches
Decorative Stitches

Counted thread work is suitable to Needlepoint, Embroidery and Cross Stitch fabrics. I like the freedom Counted Thread gives you in terms of design, details & color.

From the back cover of the book : "Create beautiful samplers inspired by the subjects closest to your heart- your own home and garden."

Further down the back cover it describes the book's contents
" A wide selection of houses ready-charted with advice on how to chart your own
Instructions on how to add a garden and even pets to your sampler
A unique opportunity to use traditional stitches in a new & creative way
Easy-to-Follow charts, stitch diagrams and colour photographs throughout"

In paging through this book, I am impressed. The examples are wonderful. Not impossibly complex or overdone, just very good. The instructions and advice is excellent. There are pages of sample windows, doors, animals, shrubs & trees.

There is a section with very good diagrams of stitches. The only downside I can see (or imagine) with this book is that it was published in the UK so most of the houses are homes you might find there, not here in the USA.

Then again, many home styles are universal.

An amazing book.

First published in the UK as House & Garden Samplers in 1996. Retitled and published as a paperbound book by David & Charles in 2005.

Create Your Home In Counted Thread is a glossy cover paperbound book. It has 119 pages.

Autographed!! Bling, Glitz & Glamour for Needlepoint by June McKnight

A brand new, just issued book by June McKnight one of the best known names in needlepoint books.

I have a good stock of this new book, all of them autographed by June McKnight. This book is a hit.

This book is different in other ways as well. The cover is heavier glossy paperboard, gone is the regular paper cover with the clear plastic overlay (which attracted dust like nothing I have ever seen).

Obviously, the book is about embellishment of a shiny nature. Ms. McKnight says, in a beginner preface, that one of the fun elemets of this is the "hunting & gathering" of beads, baubles and glitz."

Then there is a section with descriptions of different kinds of beads and their uses. Then Pearls (fake or otherwise), Rhinestones, Sequins, Needles, thread, beeswax etc.

There is also a kist of other embellishment web sites.

This is another of Ms. McKnights signature small books with195 pages and a metal spiral binding.

Self-published by June McKnighjt copyright 2012. There is no ISBN number for this book

The suggested retail price is $52.00 but I am selling it here for $50.00 plus my free shipping as an added discount.

Stitch: Landscape by Stacey Tombros & Elaine Oliverio

I have this wonderful book back in stock, for immediate delivery (until I sell out again)

Recently, we have seen the publication of several new books, the first in proposed series of Needlework books. After a few years of almost no new books on this/these subject(s), this is great.

Stacey Tombros & Elaine Oliverio, in Association with Little Shop Canvas Company have just published this new stitch book, Stitch: Landscape.

The list of landscape based stitches on the cover of the book are:
Clouds
Flowers
Grass
Mountains
Sand
Shubbery
Sky
Snow
Soil
Stone
Trees
Water

and there are more inside.

To quote from the first page of the book "Landscape is a term that depicts and covers natural scenery such as mountains, valleys, trees, rivers, water etc. It is a portion of land which the eye can comprehend as a single view. Keeping that in mind, Stitch Landscape was created.

Stitching landscapes, choosing stitches and selecting threads can be tricky. Stitch Landscape is a comprehensive stitch book designed with categories of multiple stitches to choose from.

Stitch Hints are provided in each category to optimize stitches and thread choice."

Although this is a small book, there appears to be a large number of stitches in here, 5 or 6 to a page. The diagrams are clear and easy to read and understand.

There are a number of stitches here that are completely new to me (not that I am an expert).

For instance, Grass is difficult to stitch. There are 40 different stitches for grass and at least one page of stitch hints for each category. I am impressed.

This is a brand new book, published in 2011 byLittle Shop Canvas Company. Stitch Landscape is a spiral bound paper cover book with a clear plastic overlay sheet to protect the cover page. It has 75 pages.

This has just been released and NewNeedlepoint is one of the first stores to have it (yes, I am crowing about this).

I usually do not show inside pages on new books but I wanted to show you a few of these stitches.

Sandy's Finishing Touches, Revised 2010 Edition by Sandy Higgins

Sandy's Finishing Touches is out of stock right now but more are on their way. If you want to order one, I will ship the same day I get them.

Sandy's Finishing Touches is subtitled "A Step-By-Step Guide To Finishing Needlework. I thought this might be a great book to have for sale here, since I know I know almost nothing about finishing off the needlepoint I stitch, beyond blocking it.

It seems to me there are less places to have good needlework finished then there used to be, as our LNS close, one by one. I used to have beautiful finishing done by a store near where I live, but the owners retired (go figure).

The new store I took my finishing too did a miserable job, in fact ruining a large round petitpoint pillow I spent many months stitching. Oh well.

This book is by Sandy Higgins, first printed in 1991. This is a brand new, 2010 Revised Sixth Printing. The books appears to be very nicely self published and paper bound in a handy ring binding (always good for cookbooks and instructions books so you can follow the directions page by page).

Someone who bought this book from me, when I first listed it told me this is a very good book, very useful.

The book has 71 pages. The chapters are titled:
<ul>
<li> blocking
<li>pillows
<li>other edge finishes
<li>pillow stuffings and closures
<li>christmas finishing
<li>other needlework projects
<li> special effects
<li> references
</ul>

Another advantage, the type is good size, no need to wear ones *stitching glasses* to read this book.

Self-Published 2010 Revised Edition. Sandy's Finishing Touches is a Mat Cover paperbound book with a spiral binding.

ISBN # 978-0-9663617-1-1

You may see this book sold elsewhere for less money. Check carefully, it is probably the 2003 Fifth Printing, which wholesaled for less.

Beginner's Guide to Silk Shading by Claire Hanham

This is another of the new books where I have kept one for myself. My shading skills are non-existant to negative (as in I do worse than you could imagine).

Although this book's title says it is about "Silk Shading" the techniques here are suitable and highly adaptable to Cotton Embroidery, Crewel Work or Needlepoint.

Silk Shading is aimed at beginners but I do not think it is right for "real"beginners. I suggest this book for mid-level to advanced stitchers.

The books begins with materials, threads & needles. There are chapters on Techniques & How To Start. There are 4 projects with completely complete (my idea of a joke) directions.

This book would be a great help to many stitchers, of every sort. Shading is one of the more difficult things to master, IMO.

A large glossy cover paperbound book with 48 pages. Published by Search Press in UK in 2007. This edition is a 2008 re-print.

ISBN# 978-1-84448-112-5

Spooky Stitches by June McKnight

New Discounted Price (I have too many copies)

According to Ms McKnight, this is her 15th book. June McKnight's Needlepoint & Bargello Needlepoint books are some of the best out there, as far as I can tell.

June McKnight books are always on point to their subject and take you through what ever you need to know or learn, for what ever the books' subject is.

I know that is vague but with 15 titles out there, and all still available and in print, this is something.

I believe I stock all of the June McKnight books. Occasionally one sells out but I replace it and they all sell, eventually.

Ms Knight discusses how a Halloween Needlepoint book would, of course, have a lot of black in the designs & stitches. She goes on to say that black is difficult to photograph.

That is for sure, as I have learned. it absorbs light and is hard to get a good picture of. For this reason, few of her photographed samples use black.

The sections headings here are interesting.

There are 23 stitches under the chapter ARCHITECTURE. Some of the names are wonderful like Devil's Briquette, Devil's Door, Graveyard Wall, Peek A Boo, Pumpkin Parts, Snake Skin, Watch Your Step, Wicked Cobblestone, Witchy Milanese and more.

The other sections headings are:
BACKGROUNDS with 12 stitches
BORDERS with 18 stitches
CLOTHING with 44 stitches including one called "Devil's Underwear"
DIAGONAL PATTERNS with 10 stitches
FLORALS with 12 stitches
HORIZONTAL PATTERNS with 12 stitches
NOVELTIES with 11 stitches
SKY with 10 stitches

Spooky Stitches is self-published by June McKNight with a 2011 copyright date. It is a small paperbound book with a metal spiral binding and a clear plastic cover over the cover page.

Decorative Backgrounds for Needlepoint by June McKnight

This handy little book is another in June McKnigh's series of Needlepoint and Bargello Needlepoint book. The books are small with big spiral bindings. They are the perfect size to carry in your needlepoint tote bag and I love spiral bounds books, they lay flat when open.

The subtitle for this book is "The Ten Commandments of Background Stitching" "Rules to help in the selection of the perfect background".

I think that pretty much says it all.

This is, as I have noted, a small paperbound book measuring 5.5 X 5, including the spiral binding. it was self-published by June McKnight with a 1992 Copyright.

The Secrets of Needlepoint: Techniques & Stitches by Dominique Siegler-Lathrop

This is a beautiful book. It is the second edition, it was originally published in France in 1997.

Ms. Siegler-Lathrop, who is bi-lingual, has re-worked and translated her book for the English speaking (and reading) needlepoint community.

This books suggests a unique technique for stitching needlepoint or canvas embroidery (the same thing, different names). She claims that needlepoint worked using her row-by-row technique will be "reliably perfect . Not only that, but the work progresses quickly, with less time spent ending and beginning new needlefuls (her word) of wool.

It goes without saying I had to look at this. As far as I can tell it is a multiple needle technique. I scanned the pages but I admit I did not read them, line by line.

The stitched examples shown here are wonderful. The directions seem good. There are 99 pages of stitches here, one stitch to a page. The graphs are 3 color and very large, making them easy to read.

I make no editorial comment on her "technique" but this is a handsome book that can stand alone of it's merits as a stitch book, if nothing else.

The Secrets of Needlepoint is a new hardcover book with a glossy dust cover. it was published by Buchet/Chastel Paris in 1997. The English Language Edition was published in 2000. ISBN # 0-89272-504-4

The Beginners Guide to Berlin Woolwork by Jane Alford

When I ordered this new book to sell here on NewNeedlepoint.com I was not absolutely sure what Berlin Woolwork was. I knew it was like needlepoint but different.

Although this is a brand new book, I have opened it and read the introduction so I would know (a little) what I was talking about here and so somewhat affected the pristine newness of this book, sorry.

In reading about this, the difference seems to be that Berlin WoolWork, which is worked in wools or silks, is mostly done on fine mesh canvas. Sometimes very fine mesh canvas almost linen etc.

It is done with 2 basic stitches, tent (basketweave) or cross stitch with the plush or velevt stitch sometimes used for height or softness.

Since needlepoint now includes fine canvas stitching, the name Berlin WoolWork is a throw back, a historical name although the stitched designs in the book do have an old fashioned feel to them, they are lovely.

This is indeed a beginner's book. It takes you step-by-step showing you everything from the basic stitches, how to begin stitching, finishing etc. The graphs are al on color but not difficult to read and the directions seem complete.

Berlin WoolWork ins a handsome glossy paperbound book published in England by Search Press in 2003. It has 48 pages. ISBN #0-85532-936-X

new canvaswork by Jill Carter

new canvaswork (yes, the title does not have caps on purpose) was published in 2007 in England. There is a wealth of needlepoint techniques, stitches and innovative ideas here. The book is subtitled 'creative techniques in needlepoint".

There is some absolutely incredible stitching here. All the pictures are full color, bright and beautiful.

the chapters are:
Materials
Background Surfaces (or treatments)
colour, design & stitch,
Couching on a canvas background
Embroidery stitches on canvas
Applying objects onto a canvas background
Drawn Thread techniques on canvas
Pulled Thread on canvas
Machine Embroidery on canvas
Beads & stitches on canvas
Background Stitching for canvas work
Finishing techniques

Jill Cater's introduction says:
Today's canvas work (also known as needlepoint) can be anything you want it to be, so banish any of your preconceived ideas of it being restrictive and take pleasure in all that that is canvas. Using a fresh and contemporary approach to canvas work becomes a powerful means of self-expression and will offer you compelling and irresistible challenges."

Indeed! This is a gorgeous hardcover book. It is another fine Batsford book, published in England by Batsford in 2007. This is the UK edition.

This is a brand new book. ISBN # 978-0-7134-8975-0

No, my picture is not sideways, this is how the cover looks, with the opening at the right.

Needlepoint For Kids by June McKnight

I know there must be a few books on Needlepoint for Kids out there but I have never seen or heard of one. June McKNight brings her clear instruction and wonderful teaching style to this great little book.

The table of contents lists:
Beginning Steps
Straight Stitches
Cross Stitches
Square Stitches
Continental Stitches
Basketweave

The print is larger then normal, making it easier to read. The directions take you from how to thread the needle and use a Needle Threader to your first stitch. Everything is explained.

The text uses a "comic" font type to highlight a point or name a stitch. The graphs are clear & easy.

This book might be perfect for an absolute beginner to needlepoint as well as for kids.

Needlepoint For Kids is a brand new small paperbound book measuring 5 X 5.5 inches. it has a clear plastic over-cover and a metal spiral binding. I love that kind of binding on an instructional book, it lets it lay open while I use it.

The book has 102 pages and is self-published by June McKNight with a copyright date of 1995.

Needlepoint 101 Guide to Painted Canvas by Ruth Dilts

The subtitle to this book by well-known needlepoint teacher Ruth Dilts book is: Guide To Painted Canvas.

To quote Ms Dilts Forward: "Looking at a painted canvas can be very dainting. There are so many choices to be made. Where does one start? Actually this is the fun part, once you have developed some confidence. This book will help you gain that confidence.

Needlepoint 101 will help you look at any painted canvas and decide which basic stitches and threads to use. I will show you how different stitches and threads are used in 12 specific designs and then discuss why I selected each one."

This sounds like it could be a help to beginning stitchers and maybe even a more experienced stitcher, like me, could learn something here. There are a number of full color pictures in this book, as well.

Needlepoint 101 is a brand new, small paperbpund book with a plastic spiral binding. it is the perfect size to carry in your needlepoint tote bag.

It was published by The Rainbow Press with a 2005 Copyright. it has 88 pages.

Father B's 21st Century Book of Stitches

This excellent book of needlepoint stitches is mentioned in the September/October issue of Needlepoint Now. I have just received my order of new copies of this book, so I am all set to sell & ship this book with no delay.

Father B is The Rev. Robert E. Blackburn. This wonderful little book began life as an assemblage of stitches developed by the ANG, the American Needlepoint Guild as the Stitch of the Month.

The first edition, published in 1982 had less than 100 stitches. They continued producing editions of this book until 1994, by then they had 240 stitches plus many of the older stitches which had not been previously charted.

I have recently learned that this is the final edition of this book, there will not be another. I thought it was out of print, it is not. I am very pleasantly surprised.

This is the 6th Edition from 2000, the 21st Century Edition and it now has 350 stitches. Many of these stitches are original and not available elsewhere.

Some of these interesting stitches bear the names of the ANG chapters where they were invented such as "Tarheel" or Queen Charlotte".

I read on the last page of this book ago that Father B died October 2000. That was sad news, this is a wonderful book and he must have been an incredible stitcher.

This is a small book, bound in heavy paper with a plastic spiral binding. The book lies flat when opened, making it easy to follow a stitch graph. It is narrow and very portable, easily slipped into your stitching tote bag.

The graphs and directions are concise & complete.

This book is brand new from the publisher.

I suppose as well as a stitch book it is also something of a history of the ANG's Stitch of the Month development, over the years.

Exotic Fruits & Flowers in Needlepoint by Stella Knight

Stella Knight is a familiar name in Needlepoint books. She is also the author of Exotic Textiles in Needlepoint published in 2003. Exotic Fruits and Flowers, her newest book published in 2005 is a very beautiful book full of appealing projects both big and small.

To quote the back of the book "Inspired by the rich diversity of pattern and colour found in flowers and plants from exotic locations around the world, Stella KNight has produced a range of stunning creations."

I have to agree. Each design is show stitched in full colour (notice my fancy British spelling of colour?), has a color list and the stitching chart is shown in full color so make color placement easy.

This is a brand new glossy paperbound book published by Guild of Masterman Publishers LTD in England in 2005. It has 128 pages. The IBSN for this book is 1-86108-471-4

DVD: A Closet Full of Stitches by Amy Bunger

Volume 2 of Amy Bunger's How'd You Do That? series of needlepoint instructional DVDs.

Amy uses actual needlepoint canvases to show you the stitches. There are 8 of them, she calls them "People Parade" The designs are hand painted from Lee's NeedleArts (who are now retired and the business and name sold to somebody, I forget who).

There are 40 stitches demonstrated on this DVD. There is also a note that the Thread lists and Stitch Diagrams are available " see enclosed form".

I have not seen this DVD yet. Everyone I know who stitches absolutely recommends this DVD (especially to me, a decorative stitch laggard). I am told this is a great way to learn more stitches.

A Closet Full of Stitches is a new DVD still in it's shrink wrap. It is produced by Pet Project Video and copyrighted in 2007.

Creative Canvas Couching with CD by Ann Strite-Kurz

This book comes with an instructional CD for use on both a Mac or a PC.

On the inside title page of this book Ms. Strite-Kurz has written" A study of contemporary uses of couching techniques in twentieth century (and beyond!) American embroidery along with a collection of laid fillings from the author's work and that of many of the featured artists.".

While I could have worded it slightly better I could not have said it better than that. The book has absolutely beautiful examples on the front and back covers. The book's contents (forgive me for this) are awesome. This lady knows her stuff and shows it carefully and completely.

I am impressed with this book plus it comes with a CD.

Creative Canvas Couching (plus I love alliteration) is a brand new book, it is a glossy paperbound book with a plastic spiral binding. it is self-published and this appears to be from the First Printing in May 2005. It has 145 pages.

Sharon G's Sense: Simply Essential Needlepoint Stitch Explanations

This is the interesting & much talked about Sharon G book

In the introduction Sharon says that this is the first in a series of books she plans to write.

The SENSE collection book is divided into 3 sections
1) stitches with very low texture and minimal pattern

2)stitches with medium texture and no diagonal flow

3) stitches with a well-defined diagonal flow.

She goes on to say that the wrong stitch selection can ruin the outcome of your canvas (I know that is true). The biggest errors needlepointers make in selecting stitches are choosing stitches too large in scale (I learned that the hard way too).

She also reminds us that if it does not LOOK right, it probably is not (good advice often overlooked).

The stitch diagrams are large and easy to follow (even for a stitch idiot like me). Her descriptions are ghood and a big plus, the script is big enough that most of us will not need reading glasses to read it (Yea Sharon!)

All in all, this is a useful book by a master teacher and great needlepoint designer, can I give it more praise than that?

Sharon G's SENSE is a paper bound book with a spiral binding. There is a clear plastic cover over the title page. It is self-published with a 2010 copyright and 84 pages.

I have priced it $2 below the recommended price, it just seemed like that was the right price to me. I probably need to get over that.

I have Sharon G's SENSE in stock for immediate delivery.

The Shapes of Needlepoint Series 2 by Sandra Arthur

Following the amazing success of Sandy Arthur's first Shapes of Needlepoint Part 1 (or Series 1, as I should have been calling it) is Part 2 (series 2).

This book covers Diamonds, Hearts, Octagons & Stars. This book has just been released and I have copies of it in stock.

I am cribbing this review from Elizabeth's Bookshelf in the latest issue of Needlepoint Now (with apologies and compliments to Elizabeth Bozievich, it is an excellent review).
One thing I have to mention before I start. The price for the new, Series 2, is $44.95, not the $39.95 stated on both the Needlepoint Now & the Needlepointer's reviews. They based that number of the Series 1 edition.

Ok...I am paraphrasing here. Both Series 1 and Series 2 of The Shpaes of Needlepoint categorize stitches by the shape and thread count needed to fit areas of your counted thread projects.

With 116 pages and 190 easy-to-read large diagrams. Diamonds-Hearts-Octagons & Stars will be a useful resource for the stitcher. shop owner, teacher and stitch guide author.

The book is indexed by both shape and thread count, making it easy to find the stitch you need quickly........The section on hearts called Hearts a Beatin' lists hearts from a 4X5 herringbone heart to a 20 X24 crescent heart. I was impressed with the 51 different charts for heart motifs.

In the Stars are Shining section there are 33 different charts......Sandra takes the guesswork out creating 4,5,6,8 & 12 point stars with some innovative stitches.......

It was also reviewed in the current issue of Needlepointer's Magazine from the ANG.

This is a brand new 2011 Self-Published book.

Plants & Animals in Needlepoint by June McKNight

I had not seen this June McKnight book before. it is copyrighted 1993 but perhaps not always available. It is, like the other June McKNight needlepoint books, and useful and very portable book.

As I have done with some of the other June McKnight books, I think listing the chapters will give you a good idea of the contents.
FOLIAGE 30 PAGES
FLOWERS 36 PAGES
GARDEN STRUCTURES 9 PAGES
ANIMALS 10 PAGES
INDEX OF TREES & FLOWERS

The book is full of wonderful flower and foliage stitches, all easy to understand and nicely graphed or illustrated.

This is a new heavy paper book with a metal spiral binding. There is a clear plastic sheet over-cover protecting the cover. Self-published by June McKnight with a 1993 copyright. It has 87 pages plus indexes.

My Point Exactly by Orna Willis

I used to carry this book here on NewNeedlepoint.com but then it became unavailable from my book suppliers. I am now getting it directly from Orna Willis and I am glad to have it back in stock.

On the title page the suthor calls this book "Orna Ments". This book is a wonderful collection of small needlepoint projects, indeed Orna Ments.

The colors are excellent and the designs are unique, interesting stitches and concepts. Each project covers 6 pages. All the pictures and diagrams are full color. There are pictures showing each stitched in more then 1 colorway.

This is not a book for beginners but for a moderately experienced or advanced stitcher, there are some amazing ideas in here. Plus each chapter has suggestions for finishing.

My Point Exactly has 8 projects and Orna has included some printed pages with Updates & Corrections in each copy.

Self-published, with a 2002 copyright. This is a brand new metal spiral bound book. The paper is very good, heavy stock and the book is very well done, very professional in feeling and look.

Shapes of Needlepoint Series 1 by Sandra Arthur

This book is a hit. I have sold so many of them I have lost count (of course, I could go look at my purchase receipts but that would be too easy).

This is the first book of what promises to be an excellent Series of Needlepoint Books. This book covers Circles, Squares, Triangles, Rectangles.

According to the author, Ms Arthur, the book is divided into 4 sections, one for each shape covered.

Shes goes on to say "the purpose of Shapes for Needlepoint Series 1 is to catalog stitches appropriate for an available space on the needlepoint canvas". Stitches to create the shapes you want or to fill in areas you have.

Many stitches have variations that completely change the look of the stitch. Squares can be turned to become diamonds etc.

The next books in the Series will be
Shapes for Needlepoint Series 2 Diamonds, Hearts, Octagons, Stars is due to be released on August 15, 2011.

There is no release date for Shapes for Needlepoint Series 3 Corners, Diagonals, Horizontals, Verticals yet.

This is a brand new self-published book, copyright 2010. As I said above it is a First Edition.

The book is nicely done. The paper covers, front & back are laminated, The spiral binding is largeer than usual and easy to maneuver.

The book has 99 pages however each page is only printed on one side. This is very common in self-published books. A well done and interesting book.

Redoute's Finest Flowers in Embroidery

The author of Long and Short Stitch Embroidery, Trish Burr is the author of this book too.

I have to tell you now,(sort of a disclaimer) that I love Pierre Redoute flowers.

This book almost seems to be a follow-up to her Long & Short Stitch book. All of the flowers here are stitching using these stitches.

There are Materials & Beginner chapters, a section oin Techniques.

Redoute's Finest Flowers has 15 pages of stitches with an emphasis on L&S stitch. There are 17 projects with very comlete directions, a template of each and a color key using DMC threads.

The designs and instruction in the book are also suitable for needlepointers.

It would be easy to adapt this for Needlepoint Stitchers.

This is a gorgeous book, all the pictures are in full color, there is a detailed close-up of each flower.

A new glossy paperbound book from the Milner Craft Series. Published by Sally Milner Publishing in Binda, Australia in 2001. This book is from the second printing. It has 95 pages.

A Potpourri of Pattern Encore by Ann Strite Kurz

This is the follow-up book to Ms. Strite-Kurz's excellent book, A Potpourri of Pattern.

I guess that says it all. The sections are:

Miscellaneous Composite Patterns
Diaper Patterns
Color Comparisons.

The author, as well as the original Potpourri of Pattern book has also written 9 other books. I am only familiar with 3 of them I think I will find out if I can get any of the others.

The Complete Illustrated Stitch Encyclopedia

There are no author or editor names anywhere that I can find on this large book. It was published by Sterling Press in 2004.

The back of the title pages says this book was "based on Needlecraft magie published in 2001 by Eaglemoss Publications.

I have no idea what any of that means.

it is not a stretch to call this book the "complete encyclopedia". It is a large heavy book with 318 pages. All the pictures, graphs and stitch samples are in color.

The book claims to have 250 Needlepoint & embroidery (often interchangable) stitches and 30 projects to use them in. The book calls itself "An Invaluable One-Volume Resource for Needleworkers".

Shay Pendray's Inventive Needlework

Subtitled: Technique and Inspiration for Gold Work, Painted Canvas and Shading.

This appears to be an interesting book, The painted Canvas (Needlepoint) section covers everything you need to know to achieve wonderful effects on Needlepoint Canvaas. The Gold Work section, for lack of a better way to say it, Glitters and the shading instruction is quite good. There are no actual projects, just page after page of instruction, advice and help.

There is a gallery of gorgeous pictures in the back of the book.

Shay Pendray is one of the better known "names" in Needlework today. Her book is suitable for needleworkers of all skill levels. A quote from Inventive Needlework's back cover "reference that combines illustrations and full-color photographs to demonstrate each technique."

I guarantee that no matter how skilled a stitcher you are, you will learn from from this book. Although the books gives some beginner instruction, it probably is too advanced for an absolute beginning stitcher to use...yet anyway.

Published by Krause Publications in Iola, WI in 2004. This is a new, large glossy cover paperbound book with 142 pages.

ISBN # 0-87349-408-3

Contemporary WhiteWork by Tracy Franklin & Nicola Jarvis

This is a wonderful book full of unusual and amazing ideas. I love white anyway but the concept and execution of WhiteWork as shown in this book is excellent.

Many of the ideas and concepts used here are adaptable to Needlepoint as Well, Some of them practically scream "Needlepoint".

From the dust jacket flaps "The term *WhiteWork* covers a range of traditional and much loved hand Embroidery techniques including Broderie Anglaise, Cutwork, Pulled Work, Shadow Work and Montmellick.

Contemporary or Modern WhiteWork is an overlooked subject. Most books on this subject take a very time honored and traditional approach.

This books shows how this type of stithery can be modern and even cutting edge. Each chapter discusses a different type of WhiteWork stitching.

There is the beginner's section with basic instructions, tools and materials etc.

Each section covers the stitches used in that type of WhiteWork with complete directions, supplies needed and a section of stitches used.

The book is full of illustrations, most of them in full color. B&W drawings are used to stitch diagrams or drawings.

The contents and projects here are unique, you will not see this stuff in every other WhiteWork book, old or new.

This is a new, large hardcover book. Published by Batsford LTD in the UK in 2005. The book has 128 pages.

ISBN # 0-7134-8964-2

A Potpourri of Pattern by Ann Strite-Kurz

Another interesting Needlework book by Ann Strite-Kurz, the author of Creative Canvas Couching (what a surprise, I also have that here for sale), The Heart of Blackwork, Backgrounds, The Finishing Touch (which 2 I do not have here..yet).

The subtitle of this book is: A Collection of Original Open Patterns for Canvas and Linen Use.

That pretty much says it all. Her forword says " The main purpose of this book is to provide readers with some innovative ideas for stitch treatments"

There are 130 pages of them, all of these patterns look interesting to me. In fact, I am currently stitching something myself and I want an open stitch background. There are several good possibilities here.

There are no color pictures inside the book but the front and back covers, inside & out have a "potpourri" of different stitches shown with each identified.

This a new book, self-published in 1995, this copy is a first edition. It is a largish glossy paperbound book with a plastic spiral binding.

ISBN:0-9633259-2-2

Needlepoint 1/12 Scale: Design Collections for The Doll's House by Felicity Price

I never had a doll's house. After skimming through this wonderful book, I wish I had. There are wonderful designs here.

Each design has both a full color chart and a black and white chart. The colors key works for both.

The book takes you from the very beginning, the basics of simple needlepoint all the way to the finished item. It also has ideas about things to do and ways to decorate your doll house.

I believe this book is associated with Doll's House Magazine. If the magazine is anything near as good as this book is, it should be great.

The chapters include:
Basic Guide: very comprehensive
Take 1 Cat, The Entrance Hall
All at Sea, The Bathroom
Teddy Bear's Picnic< the Nursery
And So To Bed, the Bedroom
Dinner is Served, the Dining Room
Here Be Dragons, the Library
A Bouquet of Roses, the Drawing Room

Some of the chapters have more then 1 design, all have lots of ideas for adaptations.

This is a brand new book, first published in 2000 by The Guild of Master Craftsmen Publications in Lewes, West Sussex, England. Needlepoint 1/12 Scale is a large glossy paperbound book with 116 pages. This is the 2001 re-print.

ISBN1-86108-166-9

American Country Needlepoint by Jim Williams

At first, the author's name threw me. Jim Williams was the guy who was murdered in both the book and the movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil".

Obviously, this is a different Jim Williams. I also have this book in the used/rare Needlepoint Design Books Category.

I am impressed with this book. The designs are "country" but there are no duckies and few kitsch designs here.

There is a chapter called Country Animals. Itt has 2 different but handsome roosters, a fine sitting hen, a baby chick (maybe I spoke too soon about duckies) rabbits in clover, a rainbow trout, birds nest and of course a sleeping cat.

Each design is given 3 pages, for complete directions, a color key and a full size full color graph.

The rest of the Chapters are:
Garden Fruits and Vegetables with some unusual ideas like a slice of watermelon shaded pillow and wait until you see the Indian Corn.

Favorite Flowers, which includes a sampler rug. Each letter is graphed with it's own flower.

There are a number of rug designs here, one interesting rug combines needlepoint with crochet.

Published by Taunton Press in 1997, this is a brand new first printing edition of the book. It is a large glossy cover paperbound book with 103 pages. It is filled with pictures, all of them in color.

Needlecraft: Skills & Techniques by Lucinda Ganderton

Lucinda Ganderton is the author of the classic stitch book Stitch Sampler. Stitch Sampler sold well here on NewNeedlepoint as a hard to find book and now it has been re-issued in a new edition (which I list here).

Needlecraft: Skills & Techniques is part of the Practical Home Handbook series.

Quoting from the back cover;
"Over 500 instructional illustrations-both step by step to show you how and glorious inspirational galleries of the best current & traditional Pieces

" Equipment, tools & materials all fully described and explained-how to choose them and how to use them

"Learn how to master the traditional crafts with ease and how to adapt classic approaches and designs for modern equipment and contemporary projects"

"The primary teaching manual for all new needlecrafters and a standard reference work for advanced practitioners"

I think that last sentence says it all. This book is full of tips and techniques, in skimming through it I learned a few thgings I did not know.

THis would be an essentail book for beginners and useful to use veteren stitchers, as well. Packed with full color pictures and with Lucinda Ganderton's needlework knowledge

ISBN # 978-0-7548-0810-7
