A-Z of Stumpwork: Search Press Edition
A-Z of Stumpwork: Search Press Edition
In 2016 Search Press acquired and revised Country Bumpkin's catalog of needlework books, the A-Z series.   This is the revised edition of the 2005 copy of the A-Z of Stumpwork.  Stumpwork is three-dimensional stitchery on fabric or needlepoint canvas.  The book begins with general information on Stumpwork or raised embroidery, then an overview of stitches and techniques.   There are 20 design projects, each with color photographs, easy to follow directions and a full-size pattern.  As...

Roses in Silk and Organza Ribbon by Di van Niekerk
Roses in Silk and Organza Ribbon by Di van Niekerk
As far as I am concerned, Di van Nierkerk is The Master Teacher of Ribbon Work. She has published many fine books on this fascinating subject. I believe that I carry all her current, in publication, books on this subject. As in each of her books, the directions are clear and easy to follow and the pictures are all in full color. She gives you everything you will need to complete each project: The needles you will want, in each of the sizes needed. The colors and amounts of silk Ribbon The c...

Silk Ribbon Embroidery: A Workshop Approach For Beginners by Helen Dafter
Silk Ribbon Embroidery seems to be one thing many stitchers are interested in and want to either learn or advance the skills they already have. Helen Dafter is a well known Silk Ribbon embroidery teacher & writer. I list several other book by Ms Dafter including Floral Interpretations for Silk Ribbon & Little Book of Silk Ribbon Flowers. Both terrific books. This book is a little different, It is aimed at beginners and takes *A Workshop Approach* to learned Silk Ribbon Embroider. I am noyt sur...

Stumpwork Medieval Flora by Jane Nicholas
Stumpwork Medieval Flora by Jane Nicholas
Jane Nicholas is an authority in Stumpwork, she is the author of 8 books on Stumpwork stitchery including The Complete Book of Stumpwork. This is a Milner Craft Series book, one of Sally Milner Publishing's excdellent stitchery books from Australia. In the introduction to this handsome book Jane Nicholas says her inspiration for this book was her fascination with medieval illuminated books such as The Book Of Hours.  She was driven to embroider them and used the techniques of stumpwork to enh...

Country Bumpkin were Australian stitchers and writers of the famous Country Bumpkin A-Z series of stitchery and handwork books.   in (and around) 2016 their catalogue of titles was aquired by Search Press and the books were revised (I do not know if all of them were revised or not but I think so).The A-Z series was very popular and useful to stitchers everywhere.  Country Bumpkin still exists but now they are mostly involved with their Inspiration Magazine. The revised books are very much like...

Three Dimensional Embroidery Stitches by Pat Trott
Three Dimensional Embroidery Stitches by Pat Trott
Pat Trott is also the author of another stitchery book, Montmellick Embroidery, (which I just so happen to have listed here in my Other New Needlework Books category). Her books are handsomely done and the techniques are clearly presented. Most of these designs are shown stitched on Aida or slightly open linen embroidery fabric. All of them are easily adaptable to needlepoint. (actually, not real adaptation needed). Quoting (and paraphrasing) from the back cover "A step-by-step guide to creati...

Ribbon Embroidery and Stumpwork by Di van Niekerk, New 2016 Edition
This is the book that has replaced Di van Niekerk's very popular A Perfect World in Ribbon Embroidery and Stumpwork. I was upset when they stopped publishing "Perfect World", despite the silly title, it was a great and gorgeous book. This book is less lush but more technical, more the book to teach you these wonderful stitching techniques. A better book. Ribbon Embroidery & Stumpwork techniques & designs are easily adaptable to Needlepoint Canvas or Needlepoint on Woven Fabric. Ribbon Embroi...

A-Z of Silk Ribbon Flowers by Ann Cox
I know, I have many of these Silk Ribbon stitching books here in my web store, but in my own defense, these books have gorgeous projects, beautiful stitching. If I could add another line of threads to NewNeedlepoint.com, it would be Silk Ribbons. I would love to kit with them, use them with other threads. Oh well...... Back to my subject. The flowers, made with Silk Ribbon, in this book are spectacular. There is quite a bit of technique here. The flowers have texture and depth. Many stand out...

Beginner's Guide To Silk Ribbon Embroidery by Ann Cox
I have way too many copies of some of the wonderful out-of-print and rare Needlepoint books I stock. I have added 7 more titles to them, 4 of them Bargello books, and significantly lowered the price of all of the others. Overstock New Books are 20% off, minimum, or more. Take advantage of my acquisitive ways. Ann Cox is also the author of the book A-Z of Silk Ribbon Flowers (which I just happen to also have in stock). It is an excellent book and has been very popular here. I first looked at t...

Dancing Needles: Punchneedle Embroidery by Pamela Gurney
This book is one of the series of excellent stitchery books in the Milner Craft Series published by Sally Milner Publishing in Australia. I found the name for this stitchery technique confusing when I first read about it but basically, it is just raised thread of slightly 3 Dimensional needlework. Quoting (and paraphrasing) from the back cover "This book is intended for the wider audience and seeks to encourage new and more experienced stitchers to enjoy the Dimensional, Colorful and Exciting...

Helen Dafter is the author of many very good Silk Ribbon stitching book for the Milner Craft Series of Books from Australia including another book listed here on NewNeedlepoint.com, The Little Book of Silk Ribbon Flowers. Reading from the back cover, there are 12 major ribbon embroideries and associated smaller flower studies in Floral Interpretations for Silk Ribbon. The flowers are inspired by photographs taken by the author, Helen Dafter, over the years and by Watercolors of the flowers pain...

Old Fashioned Flowers in Ribbon & Thread by Heather Joynes
am always attracted to books about creating gorgeous flowers in needlepoint. I am sure that is my gardener's soul coming out. The stitched flowers on the cover of this book got my attention (and I am not that easily impressed). To quote (and paraphrase) from the back cover:"Eleven lovely flowers to embroider, including roses, hollyhocks, delphiniums, heartsease, violets, honeysuckle, English Daisies, geraniums, lady's ear drops, forget-me-nots, and sweet Alice.""Clear instructions are provided...

The Little Book of Silk Ribbon Flowers by Helen Dafter
This is a gorgeous little book with some fine examples of stitched Ribbon Flowers. The book measures just 6 X 6.5 inches and the projects in it seem small, the size could easily be increased when they are stitched. The author, Helen Dafter, is the author of many other books in RibbonWork for the excellent Milner Series of Stitchery book published by Sally Milner in Australia. I list another of her books here, as well. The book includes complete direction to stitch, including threads & ribbons...

The Simple Art of Ribbon Design by Deborrah Henry
When I ordered this book, I did not know what it's specific contents were. I rarely know more then a short blurb from the publisher and a picture of the cover. The Simple Art of Ribbon Design is in some ways similar to the book The A-Z of Silk Ribbon Flowers I listed earlier today. Similar but different. There are Silk Ribbon Flower instructions here but the book goes a step further. It shows you how to use them in actual ways. You will find clear instruction on using your flowers as Ribbon F...

The Art Of Silk Ribbon Embroidery by Judith Baker Montano
Another terrific book by well-known needlework author Judith Baker Montano. Silk Ribbon Embroidery is done in a slightly different way or format or something. It begins, of course, with the Table of Contents, which is impressive. There is a section on the background & history of the art. Then there is a section called *Profiles* where we are introduced to 12 women who use Silk Ribbon Embroidery in many different ways, in their needlework. The projects in this book are the work of these tale...

This is a new book from the excellent Milner Craft Series of books.  With this title and the subtitle of Silks, Stitches, Beads and Cords I think it will be in many categories.  Quoting from the back cover "An exciting collection of bright and beautiful collaged and embroidered pieces, Effie Mitrofanis shares with readers what can happen when a sense of playfulness is allowed to combine with creativity". "The elements that tie this book together are beautifully coloured silkd, patterns of e...

Ribbon Embroidery: Flower Patterns and Projects by Yukiko Ogura
Ribbon Embroidery: Flower Patterns and Projects by Yukiko Ogura
This is an English language book published in Japan in 1995. This is not a beginner's book. The designs here are lovely but would require a stitcher of intermediate or advanced skill to do justice to them. This is a special book. Not just your usual designs. The patterns are all flowers, the designs are classic florals, there is not much Japanese design influence in them. There are single flowers, buds, sprays and bouquets. There are wonderfully stitched and very beautiful. The templates are...

Three Dimensional Flowers in Ribbon & Fabric by Joyce Randall
Three Dimensional Flowers in Ribbon & Fabric by Joyce Randall
This is a new book but I think it has been on the distributors shelves for some time now. It is clearly not used, the covers are fine with no edge wear and the spine is pristine but the inside cover pages appear somewhat darkened by age. The edges of each heavy weight paper page have a smilier appearance. This could be the way the printers meant them to look and I am too attuned to rare books and see the color as aged. I do know the book was published in 1997 and that is 18 years ago. At any...
