In looking through this wonderful little book, I see that most of these stitches can be, easily, used for needlepoint or cross-stitch. Or indeed for embroidery.

This very fine book by Tracey A. Franklin and Nicola Franklin was out of print for a while, now it is back and I am glad. This is an unusual book.
Most of us associate Whitework with a more staid form of white on white stiching, this book open that box right up.

am always attracted to books about creating gorgeous flowers in needlepoint. I am sure that is my gardener's soul coming out. I had not seen any books by Christen Brown before but I will be on the look-out for them now. This is a very well done book about creating flowers from ribbon, using ribbon work techniques.

This is another of the new books where I have kept one for myself. My shading skills are non-existant to negative (as in I do worse than you could imagine).
Although this book's title says it is about "Silk Shading" the techniques here are suitable and highly adaptable to Cotton Embroidery, Crewel Work or Needlepoint. Silk shading is also called Thread Painting.
Silk Shading is aimed at beginners but I do not think it is right for "real"beginners. I suggest this book for mid-level to advanced...
Jan Messant is a very well-known and popular writer of needlwork books. I list several of here other books here included her current book, Embroidered Potraits and several of her out-of-print books.
I know, the title is Embroiderer's Workbook but there is very little here that is not easily adaptable to Needlepoint. There are some very interesting concepts and instruction in The Embroiderer's Workbook.

Moyra McNeill is also the co-author, with Elizabeth Geddes, of Blackwork Embroidery. Although the book is titled "Embroidery" all the pictures and examples, including the one on the cover, show Needlepoint Canvas being used.

I have just found these excellent Ribbonwork books by Christen Brown. I was not familiar with this author but I will be watching for more of her books now. This is a terrific book.

Trish Burr is the author of Long and Short Stitch Embroidery, She is the author of this book too. Redoute's Finest Flowers is out-of-print but I was able to find one new copy. I have to tell you now,(sort of a disclaimer) that I love Pierre Redoute flowers. This book almost seems to be a follow-up to her Long & Short Stitch book. Another terrific book from the Milner Craft Series of books from Australia. These are always wonderful books from Sally Milner Publishing. The subtitle is : Designs and Projects. Another excellent book in the Royal School of Needlework: Essential Stitch Guides Series from Search Press. Written by Lizzy Lansberry, the Whitework instructions here are easily adaptable to Needlepoint. I have seen Whitework Needlepoint in various books and magazines over the years and it is wonderful for using interesting techniques & stitches as well as embellishments.
