"The designs in this book are from an unusual source. They are based on the motifs found in Japanese Noh Theater Costumes. Each design in this book is presented in complete how-to detail with stitch by stitch graphs, color keys and full color illustrations plus B and W close-ups of the finished product" This is a quote from the dust jacket describing this book. It was published by William Morrow & Co in 1981.
Japanese Motifs for Needlepoint has a chapter on the basics, 14 full-color pictures and 30 designs using 99 graphs and 43 photographs.
The author, Sally Nicoletti, is a painter. She first began designing Needlepoint when she was in Art School. Authentic source material is her special interest as a designer. After seeing an exhibition of Japanese Noh Theater Costumes she began researching the costumes and the designs which led to this book.
The book itself is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows signs of wear and age. It are fairly ragged. I have taped it up to prevent further damage. The book inside is very good, the pages are somewhat yellowed by age but the spine is solid, except for the yellowing the book inside seems untouched.
Japanese Motifs for Needlepoint is getting harder to find, each copy costs more then the last one.
