If your looking for Needlepoint talk, visit our blog and find interesting topics and helpful tips.
In her introduction to this book, Elizabeth Bradley writes "This book has been a pleasure to write as it combines two of my major interests and pursuits, needlework and gardening".
There are countless examples of flowers in early or antique needlework, Ms Bradley has carefully charted and given very complete directions to stitch 25 different flowers or floral motifs.
They are grouped by seasons. Spring has 6 designs, Summer has 10, Autumn has 5 designs and Winter has 7. 4 of the Winter 7 are holiday related including an absolutely gorgeous Christmas Rose design (I am a sucker for needlepoint roses).
Each chart gives you thread or wool numbers and amounts needed. The colors are based on the Elizabeth Bradley Line of Wools or DMC Wools. Given that the amounts are listed, it would not be hard to switch to another brand of wool or to cotton flosses. I believe DMC color numbers stay the same for wools or cotton etc.
I don't think I have ever seen Elizabeth Bradley Wools for sale anywhere. There is a source to buy them listed but since the book was published in 1993, who knows?
Needlework Antique Flowers is a very well done book, very complete with an index, bibliography, general lists and information as well as a section on materials and methods.
This is a large 10 X 11 inch paperbound book. it was published in 1993 by Sterling Publishing in New York.
The book is in very good condition. The cover is somewhat worn and scraped at the edges but inside the book inside is in great condition. The spine is tight and the pages excellent. It does not look like this book was opened very often.
