This is a popular book, here on NewNeedlepoint.com. Although published in 1972 it sells each time I find new copies and list them.I find it an easy to follow book. The stitches are well explained.
Each time I have to replace it it gets harder to find.
The Encyclopedia Of Canvas Embroidery Stitch Patterns is a wonderful needlepoint reference book featuring 170 stitch patterns. The subtitle calls it "the most complete collection ever published" I bet the claim was true back when the book was first published.
The stitches are clearly and carefully diagrammed, for many of them multiple graphs are used to show how to stitch them. While there are many of the usual stitches here there are also a number of very interesting and advanced needlepoint stitches.
This is a large paperbound book. Katharine ireys is a well-known needlepoint teacher & author. She is also a charter member of the Craftsman Branch of the Embroiderers Guild as well as a charter member of National Standards Council of American Embroiderers.
The Encyclopedia of Canvas Embroidery Stitch Patterns was first published in 1968. This hardbound edition was published by Thomas Crowell in 1972.
This is interesting, in it she credits Mary Rhodes book Ideas for Canvas Work as well as Hope Hanley.
The Encyclopedia of Canvas Embroidery Stitches is in very good condition. The dust jacket is just good, the edges of are worn and ragged, I have taped them to prevent further damage. The book inside is Very Good
The pages are very good, very slightly yellowed and the spine is tight.
