This is an interesting variation on the usual needlepoint reference book. It does not have a collection of stitches. It does not show interesting or unusual techniques. It is a book of patterns. Exactly as the title says.
There are 78 very interesting patterns in here, some expected and some unusual. Each pattern is shown in a good size full color picture of the stitched result of the patterns with a minimum of 4 repeats of each pattern and usually more.
Of course there are very clear and easy to follow graphs for each patterns, this is a book by Master Teacher and well-known Needlepoint Author, Hope Hanley.
Some of the patterns are 2 colors, some 3 and the most I found in the book is 4 colors. Her color use is fabulous and many of these patterns are wonderful.
This book came in my first shipment of books but I kept it for a while. I have enjoyed looking at it and trying a few of her patterns. Anyone who enjoys graphic design needlepoint or is looking for interesting border treatments will find this book very useful.
Hope Hanley's Patterns for Needlepoint is a medium size hard bound book. It was published Charles Scribner's Sons in 1976.
The book is in good condition, even the dust jacket is in good conditon with a pretty big exception. On the inside cover page on both the front and the back is a dark beige stain running the whole length of the book, at the spine. On the back the paper covering is slightly torn at the top of the spine. The back inside cover is worse than the front. I have no idea what could cause this.
The book has no other signs of wear and only slight yellowing, mostly on the dust jacket, from age.
As you can see, the inside is very good.
