This is the second volume of well-known needlepoint Designer and Teacher Maggie Lane's series on Chinese influenced design for Needlepoint. The first book was Needlepoint By Design (which I also just happen to have here as well, imagine that)
Mrs. Lane was raised in China and grew up surrounded by wonderful design. I am a huge fan of Chinese and Japanese Design myself so it is hard to be impartial but I do think the designs and patterns in this book are wonderful.
In addition, there is a 17 page section of just stitches, some of them quite unusual. Some of the designs are shown in full color in the center of the book. The graphs are clear and Maggie Lane's directions are, as always concise and complete.
In particular, the project shown on the cover "Fish in Spiraling Waves" is excellent, It seems that, without meaning to, I have used the oages with the cover picture for my page picture as well.
Also noteworthy is the Sung Magpie Pillow. The designs or colors used do not appear to be dated despite the book's 1972 publication date. Great Chinese design does not age.
More Needlepoint by Design is a larger hardcover book, it has 149 pages. it was published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1972.
More Needlepoint by Design is in very good condition, the dust cover is very good with ragged edges at the spine corners, which I have taped to prevent more damage.
The pages are yellowed by age at the edges. Otherwise they are unmarked and also very good. The spine is tight.
Isn't the design on this page wonderful?
