Trish Burr is a well-known needlepoint teacher and author of the Long & Short Stitch book & DVD as well as numerous other needlework books including one of my favorites, Redoute's Finest Flowers.

Needle Painting for Embroidery is subtitled " Fresh Ideas For Beginners"   This book does begin with easier lessons, I find it goes way beyong beginners, the instructions are given in levels going from level one to level 3 which is more challenging. it is a very good Needlepainting book

Essentially, Needle Painting is shading, making the stitched shades flow and change. This can be a challenge but when well done, it is incredible.

I do think it would be simpler and more direct to call it Shading but they instead use this fancy new name Thread Painting.

Many of the ideas and techniques in this book would be useful to Needlepointers, as well.

There are 15 embroidery projects in this book, custom designed by Trish Burr.

From the back cover:
"The embroideries are divided into 3 levels , from complete beginner through to more intermediate embroiderers, and will also be helpful to those with some experience who are looking for smaller designs to use for gifts.

Each level is carefully designed to take you onto the next stage of Needle Painting and includes all aspects of the technique, plus an introduction to Long & Short Stitch and it's variations-basic, curved, different shapes and feathers." (that is all one sentence, from the back cover, I did not write that).

"The instructions in Needle Painting Embroidery are easy to follow-comprehensive thread listings, numerous step-by-step photographs, clear illustrations and row by row instructions."

This is a good looking book and I agree, it is laid out well and clearly. The instruction is precise. This is a useful book for Embroiderers, Needlepointers, even Cross-Stitchers. Very well done.

Needle Painting Embroidery was published in 2011 by Sally Milner Publishing.  I always find the Milner Craft Series of books to be excdellent book.  This is a glossy paperbound book with 120 pages.

This is a new book but it does have some Shelf Wear.  The upper right hand corner of the book is slightly bend.
