A beautiful book, as much for the pictures of the Ribbon Embroidery pieces stitched and how some of them are used. Satin and Silk Ribbon Embroidery is out-of-print and new copies are rare.
This is one of the earlier books on Ribbon Stitching, which has become so popular in the last few years.
The book begins with an overview on working with Silk Ribbon. Then it shows 5 pages of simple stitches for Silk Ribbon stitching with multiple stitches per page.
Next is something I have not seen before. The author calls is "Exciting Crewel and Silk Ribbon Combinations".
These stitches are all easily adaptable to Needlepoint.
The next section is on Working With Satin Ribbon, again most of the Ribbon Stitching books do not address Satin Ribbon. This section includes how to make Satin Ribbon Roses, with 7 rose variation shown.
Then the projects, there are 13 of them including this. The picture below is a part of the Fighting Cocks project.
(remember this book is published in South Africa, their slang usage may not be the same as it is for us here in the USA)
Each project has a illustration of the piece superimposed with squares, to use for counted thread of transfer. A list of materials needed and directions.
There are a number of full color pictures here, mostly showing the stitched pieces. The rest of the is done in shades of forest green type, line drawings and shading.
There is something else unique here. There is a chapter on stitching these gorgeous flowers on a wedding dress. What a great idea.
This book is not very well known here in the USA but, I think, it is an extraordinary book.
First published in 1993 in Cape Town, South Africa. Second printing 1994. This is a glossy cover paperbound book with 64 pages.
Satin and Silk Ribbon Embroidery is in Very Good condition. There is a little edge wear and a slight bend in the spine, otherwise the book is, as I said, very good.
