A gorgeous book full of designs from some of today's best needlepoint designers, Bird & Beasts collected.
26 original designs by Kaffee Fasset, Susan Duckworth, Candace Bahouth, Judith Gussin, Anita Gunnett, Sue Rangeley, Joy Hanington, Susan Duckworth, Catherine Reurs, Sarah Windrum, Lillian Delevoryas, Angela Chidgey,
There are many more needlepoint designs in this book, I have only listed the names of the designers who have charted designs in the book.
This is a large handsome book. Again quoting from the dust jacket flaps. "This glorious collection of traditional and contemporary designs includes both Needlepoint & Crewel."
This was a rare book, now it has been re-printed. It is the exact same but but new (and available)
In paging through this wonderful book, I do not see any Crewel Work designs, they all appear to be Needlepoint but I am sure that there are 1 or 2 crewel designs hiding in here.
They are really charming designs, each design has a full color picture of the finished piece, it has a full color start, a list of yearn used and the amounts needed (the amounts are in both metric and US numbers).
The directions are complete and detailed.
The chapters are:
Early Textiles
The Elegant and The Exotic
Folk Art
Victoriana
Twentieth-Century Embroidery
Techniques
Yarn & Kit Information
I can't help but mention Kaffee Fasset's Pansy The Cow. I love this design. I could go on, there are many noteworthy projects here, all with the skill and style you expect from Erhman.
Birds and Beasts in Needlepoint was originally published in the UK as Noah's Ark: Animals in Needlepoint. The copyright is 1989 to Hugh Erhman.
Published by Clarkson N. Potter in the UK. This is the First American Edition. The cover price is $24.95. I have discounted it.
