I have just found these excellent Ribbonwork books by Christen Brown. I was not familiar with this author but I will be watching for more of her books now. This is a terrific book.
The subtitle for this book is:
The Ultimate Visual Guide to 122 Flowers, Leaves and Embellishment Extras.
Quoting from the back cover:
"Learn to make 122 exquisite floral elements with ribbon using 7 basic knots and stitches"
"A complete compendium with ribbon styles, selection and care, cutting charts and troubleshooting tips."
"Say it with flowers...the gallery section is bursting with ideas for using the vignettes you design."
The book begins with a visual guide showing all the flowers and floral elements included grouped by category:
Essential Gardens
Cottage Gardens
Urban Gardens
Grandmother's Gardens
Enchanted Gardens
Roses, Queens of the Garden
Petals and Greenery
Garden Extras.
Ribbonwork Gardens begins with an overview, then a chapter on selecting and using the ribbons. The next chapter is Taking Shape about how to choose the best ribbon type and size for your project. Then You Are the Designer followed by a chapter on the Basic Elements, Tools and Troubleshooting.
I looked at a number of the different flowers and pieces to create them. Most of the flowers had a full page of information. Beginning with a full color picture of the finished flower. Then suggested ribbons, amount needed and any additional supplies needed. A chart on how to measure & cut.
Then step-by-step directions, each step has a full color picture showing exactly what to do and how to do it.
This is an impressive book. The flowers can be as simple or as complex as you like, depending on your level of experience. A beginner could use this book, so could an experienced stitcher use the many flower designs.
Published by C & T Publishing in 2012. Ribbonwork Gardens is a matte cover paperbound book with 159 pasgtes.
