This is a new book from the excellent Milner Craft Series of books. With this title and the subtitle of
Silks, Stitches, Beads and Cords I think it will be in many categories. Quoting from the back cover
"An exciting collection of bright and beautiful collaged and embroidered pieces, Effie Mitrofanis shares with readers what can happen when a sense of playfulness is allowed to combine with creativity".
"The elements that tie this book together are beautifully coloured silkd, patterns of embroidery stitches, textures, braids and knots and tassels."
In looking through the book I see that it is set up a little differently from many other books like it.
One of the first sections is called "Learning To See". There are sections on color use, color combination etc. There is one sub-chapter called "Threads For Color, Texture and Impact"
In fact, I think I should list them
1) Materials, Threads and Equipment
2) Learning To See
3) Backgrounds
4) Stitches for Texture and Effect
5) Cords For Embellishment and Trimming
6) Stitch and Bead Patterns
7) Finishing and Making Up
8) Stitch Glossary
The designs are mostly abstract and very unusual. The color use is extraordinary. Each of the 28 projects have very detailed instructions and all the pictures are full color with many line drawings as well.
Much of what is here can be easily adapted for needlepoint. In the end, stitching and embellishment is just that, no matter if it is on canvas or cloth.
An interesting book, not just the usual, not at all.
Threadsworks is a glossy cover paperbound book poublished by Salle Milner Publishing in Australia in 2009.
This edition is the 2010 re-print. It has 143 pages.
